It is ideally located right in the heart of The New Forest, only 200 yards from the centre of Burley, which attracts many visitors’ year round with its tea rooms, pubs, manor house, cycle hire, quaint gift shops and ice cream parlour. There is also a spa in the village where you can spend a day relaxing. Roaming ponies and cattle can often be found outside the cottage or wandering through Burley – it certainly makes a change from a traditional traffic jam!

The unspoilt forest and heathland with wandering ponies and cattle are what makes the New Forest famous. Miles of beautiful walks are available, as is golf, or alternatively the surrounding area can be explored by car or on bicycle via the many cycle paths, where you can discover some of the appealing villages, towns, attractions, and gardens such as Lyndhurst, the sailing town of Lymington (with ferry terminal to the Isle of Wight), Beaulieu Motor Museum, Exbury Gardens and the riverside village of Bucklers Hard. The county of Hampshire itself was enjoyed by Jane Austen with her house and museum in Chawton and her resting place in Winchester Cathedral. Further afield but well worth a trip is Christchurch, Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool. Marwell Zoo, Peppa Pig World, ‘Go Ape’ adventure park, The Owl and Otter Park and nautical maritime history at Southampton, with retail shopping outlets, are also within easy reach. This recent barn conversion offers a real country charm and is the ideal place to enjoy a long weekend and escape to the country. It is an idyllic base from which to explore this stunning part of the New Forest and Dorset. All the accommodation - Larch Cottage (ref UK36198) Ash Hill (ref UK36199), Homewood (ref UK36205) and Sika Cottage (UK36194) adjoin one another and can be booked together to accommodate 20 guests, with the owners’ permission. All the properties have polished concrete floors with rugs and are furnished using natural woods of differing origins; each property has a stunning feature glass staircase. All the cottages have their own enclosed area with firepit and barbecue with outside seating. There is also a pizza oven shared between the four properties and can be booked on request.

Larch Cottage has wonderful views overlooking the woods and has a study on the first floor which is an ideal place to work if required. There is also a rustic play area for children and freshly laid eggs daily from the on-site chickens! For guests who may wish to bring a horse, the owners offer a stabling option by prior arrangement.

For those that like the outdoor lifestyle this will make the ideal retreat; there is on-site archery, axe throwing and fishing in the River Avon (licence required). Nearby there is horse riding, the New Forest Water Park, for kayaking and other water sports. For those bringing dogs, there are plenty of excellent walk, many of which offer great bird and wildlife spotting.

Avondale is a wonderful, four bedroom, two bathroom home that has been lovingly refurbished to create a wonderful holiday home in a charming village location. With a spacious living room with a wood burner, and an open plan kitchen/diner with with picture window overlooking the garden and New Forest National Park beyond, this is the perfect choice for friends or families to use as a base to explore this stunning part of the country. This fantastic cottage is in the peaceful village of Woodgreen, and you are very likely to see horses, donkeys and cattle (and during Panage, wild pigs) wandering past your front gate. Woodgreen is a charming village situated on the north west edge of the New Forest National Park. Woodgreen Common is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and there are many walks and cycle rides that can be undertaken directly from the cottage. Woodgreen also boasts a wonderful village pub, serving traditional British cuisine, which is an easy, level walk from the cottage (make sure you have a torch for the way home), and there is also a delightful community-run village store and post office.
The neighbouring market town of Fordingbridge has a pub on the river and a great grocer shop for local produce; there is also an organic farm shop close by with its own café. Fordingbridge is known for its medieval bridge with five arches, and has many local shops, boutiques, eateries and a church. Nearby there is a waterpark, which offers wakeboarding, sailing, fishing and other water sports, and there is horse riding and golf in the area too.
Thirty minutes or so to the south, you will find beautiful sandy beaches at Southbourne, Bournemouth and Sandbanks. Other places to visit include Moors Valley, Christchurch Harbour and Dorset Heavy Horse Farm. The historic cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury are within a short drive away and are well worth a visit. Kennelman’s is a spacious holiday home for two, nestled at the end of a quiet close on the edge of The New Forest National Park. You can visit Mudeford Spit and get the boat across to Hengistbury Head Beach, which is home to fantastic beach huts, it is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Here you can hire bikes to cycle around and take part in a variety of water sports.
