Other interesting days out could include the V&A Museum, an excellent museum of art and design, hill walking in one of the five Angus Glens with their stunning hill and loch scenery approximately an hour’s drive away, golf at one of the many other superb courses in the area, horse riding, fishing, skiing at Glenshee and sailing. Gardener’s Cottage (ref UKC3040) is a gorgeous, upside-down, detached cottage which was formerly the head gardener’s house in times past. Furnished with style and flair, this quirky cottage is wonderfully situated in a secluded spot in the grounds, with a private sunny garden and patio off the main bedroom where you can soak up the sun in peace.
Grieve’s Cottage (ref UK11107) is a little gem – a tastefully furnished and spacious, one bedroomed cottage with an open plan living space on the ground floor and a spacious bedroom with sumptuous bed and en-suite shower room on the first floor.
The Garden Room (ref UK34071) is an absolutely stunning conversion of the original potting shed and offers a unique holiday experience. One half of the property is taken up with an enormous conservatory, stylishly designed and furnished to complement the garden surroundings, while the other half houses a high-quality kitchen, shower room and double bedroom.
All guests have access to the owners’ large enclosed walled garden, hard tennis court and small putting green. Just a short drive from the centre of Montrose, this is an ideal base from which to explore an area that is rich in culture, wildlife and heritage. Montrose sits on a peninsula between the South and North Esk rivers. The magnificent sandy beach, golf courses and links area are very popular with tourists, as well as additional leisure facilities including tennis courts, bowling greens and parks. There are plenty of good cycle routes around the cottage and throughout the area, and for golfers there are over 30 courses within an hour’s drive, including the championship courses of Carnoustie and St Andrews. Excellent beaches including Lunan Bay, Arbroath and St Cyrus are nearby and are ideal for surfing or enjoying a barbecue. Fishing can also be found within easy reach. Beach 3½ miles. This gorgeous, detached, whitewashed cottage is located in the tiny hamlet of Bridgend of Lintrathen, near the shore of the Loch of Lintrathen – a stunning and picturesque body of freshwater, in the heart of rural Angus. The cottage is warm and welcoming, well laid out and tastefully furnished, combining contemporary furnishings with a cottage feel. The well-equipped kitchen opens onto a delightful, enclosed rear garden with a fabulous hot tub set on a raised covered deck. Enjoy an al fresco meal prepared on the barbecue while relaxing on a sunny afternoon. Lovers of coffee and glorious homemade food are equally well catered for, the cottage being in walking distance from one of Angus’ hidden treasures, the owner’s café, perfect for coffees, lunches and cakes, ideal after a leisurely walk round the loch.
Lintrathen is host to a plethora of wildlife including otters, ospreys, wildfowl and breeding songbirds, with observation hides sited round the loch. There is fishing, with permits available from the local angling club and there are numerous walks and cycle trails in the surrounding area. Dundee is only a short drive away, with the V&A design museum, the RSS Discovery ship and Verdant Works, a restored mill housing interactive displays, all of which are must-see excursions to the city. There are golf courses abound in the area and hillwalkers are well catered for in the surrounding countryside. The Cairngorms National Park, the Malt Whisky Trail and the ski centre at Glenshee are all within easy reach, offering a wide range of activities whatever the weather and time of year. Druid’s Knowe sits in a superb position on the outskirts of the little hamlet of Tarfside, in the heart of Glen Esk.
Surrounded by gorgeous scenery this wonderful house has been totally and sympathetically refurbished and modernised right down to the last detail, but still retaining its original character. This is a perfect property if you love the great outdoors, appreciate the splendour of the Scottish countryside and are looking for rest and relaxation in an unspoilt and peaceful location.
The interior features a living room with wood burner on open plan to a well fitted kitchen, three double bedrooms (one on the ground floor) and two bathrooms, while outside there are gardens front and back, where you can sit and soak up the peace and quiet. Tarfside and Glenesk are good starting points for some excellent walks amongst stunning scenery and diverse wildlife. A few miles west of Tarfside is Mount Keen, Scotland’s most easterly Munro. Just along from the house is Glenesk Retreat and Folk Museum, gift shop and an art gallery. The museum is dedicated to the heritage, history and culture of Glenesk and focuses on the life of the rural community. At the bottom of the glen you can travel the length of the Victorian Heritage Trail, passing through Fettercairn with its Gothic Arch and local Distillery (where tours can be taken) up through Cairn o’ Mount and into Royal Deeside, ending at Balmoral Castle.
There is ample fishing and golf in the area as well as some good eating places or why not visit the beautiful beaches on the east coast at Montrose, Lunan Bay and St Cyrus.
