Situated on a working farm where the friendly cattle and sheep roam freely, this is a haven for wildlife and you may also stumble upon osprey, deer, pine martin, red kites, golden eagles and curlews. Whilst completely private, it is just over 1 mile to the pretty stone village of Rogart which is home to a thriving village pub that serves meals, as well as a shop, post office and railway station. It is ideally located for exploring the whole of the Highlands, with many places of interest within a short drive. Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Duke of Sutherland, with its gardens modelled on Versailles is well worth a visit. Or experience salmon leaping up the famous Falls of Shin, and mountain biking, hill walking, fishing, and various water sports are all available locally. The historic seaside town of Dornoch is just 15 minutes’ drive away, where you can visit the sandy beach and the renowned championship golf course, as well as the 12th-century cathedral that dominates the central square. The garden to the rear can be accessed from the kitchen with seven steps leading down from the balcony and the garden is enclosed.
From The Haven some of you may be in heaven again, as 200 yards along the road is Bladnoch Distillery, which has a large visitor shop and offers guided tours. Just across the road from the Distillery is a lovely country pub and restaurant. Only a mile away is Wigtown, known as Scotland’s book town, which provides a variety of shops, galleries, tea rooms and a pub.
Located in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway, amidst some of the finest scenery in southern Scotland, and ideally located to explore Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this beautiful region boasts an exceptional number of activities to try. With the Galloway Forest and Dark Skies Park close by, The Haven is ideally placed to explore the beauty of south west Scotland. Brechin, ScotlandThis gorgeous archetypal stone cottage is in a blissful rural retreat, set amongst the rolling hills and Glens beyond Kirriemuir. With hens, pet sheep, two horses and calves in the surrounding fields, you will feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The interior is sumptuous and welcoming with a cosy wood burner in the open plan lounge/kitchen to greet you in after a busy day out, while all interior wood and the kitchen worktops have been custom made using the timber from an oak tree that fell naturally in the grounds of the property. The bedrooms are spacious with zip and link kingsize beds in the downstairs bedroom, and kingsize sleigh bed in the upper room, accessed via a wrought iron spiral staircase with a glass balustrade and gallery overlooking the lounge.
The bathroom has a separate shower with a monsoon shower head and a lovely bath to soak in and soothe aching limbs. Outside, there is an enclosed lawn to the front as well as a raised patio with a fabulous hot tub where you can sit and look up at the stars. The owner thoughtfully provides robes for you. Perfect.
If you can tear yourself away, the area has much to offer the visitor. There are great walks accessible nearby, through Glen Prosen and Clova or magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking, and further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Kirriemuir is just a short drive away and is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of JM Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan.
