If fishing is your passion, you can walk/cycle easily to Auldernauk Fishery from the property, a most attractive and well stocked three acre fly-only loch holding good sized rainbow, blue, brown and tiger trout; it is a quiet and friendly family-owned fishery run by anglers. If you can tear yourself away for a day sightseeing, the area is renowned for its rugged beauty, from beautiful sandy beaches, cliff top walks and forest trails. The world renowned 7Stanes mountain biking routes are also within easy reach. The area is well recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, with the Galloway Forest Park being the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. Dinduff Lodge is the perfect location to explore the area. Visit Dally Bay where seals and porpoises can be spotted. Walk down to the sea to the shore on Loch Ryan and around Wig Bay and The Scar, a circular walk along the loch’s shoreline and back into the village of Kirkcolm. The Scar is a sandbank which juts out into Loch Ryan, and home to one of the largest colonies of nesting migrant terns in the region. From a historical perspective, during the Second World War, Wig Bay was used as a base for the flying Catalina boats, evidence can be seen of this on a walk along the bay.
The Galloway coastline offers an abundance of sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore. Walking, golf, sea and freshwater fishing, pony trekking, watersports and cycling are all available nearby. Just across the road from the Distillery is a lovely country pub and restaurant. Only a mile away is Wigtown, known as Scotland’s book town, which provides a variety of shops, galleries, tea rooms and a pub.

Moffat is a buzzing little town where a whole host of events are held throughout the year, from farmer’s markets to a classic car rally and Gala Week. There are many speciality shops and some delightful award-winning cafés in the town. Located on the scenic Southern Upland Way, Moffat is the perfect place for walkers, and the town was in fact Scotland’s first ’Walkers Are Welcome’ town! Horse riding, quad biking and golf are all available locally, and the 7stanes offers world class mountain biking across Dumfries and Galloway, and the Scottish Borders. Rod hire is available in town for three fishing lochs at the Green Frog Centre on the edge of Moffat, which also has an adventure play park and animal farm.
Further afield there is an abundance of delights on offer, from the many beautiful beaches and forests to historic castles and stunning gardens. There are more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with some stunning scenery, much of which you can discover on the Southwest Coastal 300. No stay in Moffat would be complete without a trip to the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall, one of Scotland’s favourite waterfalls plunging spectacularly 60m into the valley below. Being only an hour away from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, perhaps indulge in a day of shopping.
