The coastal village of Southerness has undoubtedly some of the most outstanding views of the Solway Firth to the English Lake District. Explore the beach and the striking white landmark of the Lighthouse, built in 1749, or challenge yourself on the championship golf course.

Quietly set on the park, Kipp Away is a short stroll from the delightful small seaside of Kippford which has one or two ’cockleshell’ beaches. There are numerous walks and coastal paths in and around the village. A particular spectacular walk is along the National Trust path to Rockcliffe where there is a sandy beach. Walk there and back and enjoy a meal or drink in one of the two excellent seafront pubs in Kippford.

In Port William, enjoy a meal or glass of wine whilst looking out over the harbour. Another must is a visit to Bladnoch Distillery, established in 1814, which offers a large shop and guided tours. There are many walking and cycling trails, including the world famous 7Stanes trails in the Galloway Forest Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, on your doorstep, as well as golf, sailing, fishing, and riding. The Snug is a delightful cottage which has been completely renovated in 2022 and offers wonderful accommodation where you can sit back and relax and enjoy all the comfort of home and more. The Snug is bright and spacious and on the ground floor there is a large and inviting modern kitchen/dining room, the perfect place to sit and enjoy a meal. The cosy living room with its high ceilings and lovely décor has a wood burner and comfortable sofas. The ground floor is completed with a large utility room, boot room and toilet. The small and charming town of Dalbeattie is an area hugely popular with walkers and cyclists of all ages. The world famous 7Stanes mountain trails at Dalbeattie Forest offer some of the best mountain biking in the country and attracts riders from across the UK and beyond. With its dramatic clifftops, sandy beaches and forests, walking is a delight with many beautiful walks from the doorstep. A must is a walk from The Snug to Dalbeattie Forest Town Walks where there are several trails of varying lengths. Golf is a popular pastime in the area and there are several championship courses within a short drive.
This delightful corner of south-west Scotland will tempt all ages to return. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens National Trust and many historical sites and castles to explore. Durisdeer is a picturesque village set around the village green, nestling at the foot of the Lowther Hills where you can enjoy an abundance of walks and enjoy the picturesque scenery. The biggest surprise perhaps in Durisdeer is the magnificent parish church. Whilst Durisdeer is the perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the town of Thornhill is only 6 miles away, and has all local amenities including some lovely little niche shops, restaurants and coffee shops.
A must while staying at Keeper’s Cottage is a visit to the magnificent Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens which boasts miles of beautiful walks for you to enjoy. With championship mountain bike trails, salmon fishing on the river, adventure playgrounds and ranger-led activities, there is something to keep young and old alike entertained all day.
Further afield in this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway, there are attractions in abundance from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic clifftop walks along the majestic Solway Coast. A visit to Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wild reserve is a must! With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing and golf close by, there is something for everyone.

What a little gem of a cottage! The Haven is an absolute joy and has been completely refurbished in 2020, offering the most delightful accommodation. You really will not be disappointed when you walk through the door. The living room has a lovely wood burner and the kitchen/dining room are both modern and spacious, yet retain a lovely cottage feel. You will be spoilt for choice at The Haven, whether to sink into the deep bath or enjoy the dark skies in the garden from your very own hot tub. The garden to the rear can be accessed from the kitchen with seven steps leading down from the balcony and the garden is enclosed.
From The Haven some of you may be in heaven again, as 200 yards along the road is Bladnoch Distillery, which has a large visitor shop and offers guided tours. Just across the road from the Distillery is a lovely country pub and restaurant. Only a mile away is Wigtown, known as Scotland’s book town, which provides a variety of shops, galleries, tea rooms and a pub.

Rosebank Cottage is a traditional, characterful Galloway cottage refurbished to a high standard. Dating back to the 1800s, it retains many original features including cornicing and window shutters. The kitchen/dining room has an open airy feel and is warmed by a wood burner. Enjoy a meal around the dining table discussing your day’s adventures. The living room/snug also enjoys a wood burner, and with comfortable sofa and chairs makes the perfect place to spend a quiet evening curled up with a book. With an eye to sustainability, the house has wool insulation and has been painted with Farrow and Ball eco paint throughout, non-toxic eco cleaning products are also used.

Upstairs the bedrooms are spacious with stunning views from the bay windows to the front overlooking the garden and open farmland. All linen and towels are organic cotton.

Rosebank Cottage has wonderful outside dining to the side of the house and an enclosed patio area to the front with table and chairs. The front garden is also a haven for wildflowers and plants, helping create a natural habitat for birds, insects and wildlife. Enjoy sitting under the pergola or in the bird hide watching the variety of birds come and go.

Rosebank is situated in the coastal community of Borgue and only 5-miles from the popular tourist town of Kirkcudbright. Borgue has a welcoming village pub and restaurant (about 300m away) whilst Kirkcudbright and nearby Gatehouse of Fleet offer a wider range of restaurants, cafes and independent shops with local seafood restaurants and smokeries. The Solway Coast is close by with sandy beaches and rugged cliff tops to explore, while inland is the vast expanse of the Galloway Forest Park. From coastal walks and rolling countryside, Rosebank Cottage is the perfect location to explore the area by foot, bike or car. Within 10-minutes you can be at Brighouse Bay or Carrick Bay offering coastal walks, beaches and beautiful sunsets. The roads and tracks are perfect for leisurely cycles and walks.

There is an abundance of activities with sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including National Trust Threave Gardens and Logan Botanics. Central to 5 of the worlds renowned 7Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Kirkcudbright with its bustling harbour is a must for a visit. Stroll through the town and visit Broughton House, once home to Scottish painter E. A. Hornel. The town boasts Kirkcudbright Galleries, hosting art and historical exhibitions like the Galloway Hoard. Kirkcudbright is known as ‘the artists’ town’, having hosted generations of painters, craftmakers and artisans. The town attracts visitors throughout the year, drawn in by the harbour, the historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. The popular programme of summer festivities culminates with the spectacular Tattoo.
Wigtown is about a half hour drive, known as the book town, it has no less than 20 bookshops plus a book festival in the Autumn.

Dumfries and Galloway is steeped in ancient history, with hill forts, cairns and battle sites never far away. Robert the Bruce spent a lot of time in the area. Robert Burns is ever present wherever you go, especially in Dumfries where you can visit his house.
