Maple Lodge was completed in 2019 and sits at the corner of a lodge park, with trees to two sides and offering a peaceful location. Relaxing in the 6-person hot tub is just perfect after a day exploring this magnificent county, which was voted the best place to holiday in the British Tourism Awards. The park is set just inside the Northumberland National Park, a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, and sitting in the hot tub star gazing is a real treat.

Maple Lodge is just under a mile from a pub, and the lodges are popular with visitors who love to relax after attending weddings at the nearby venue of Le Petit Chateau. The nearby shop stocks some local produce and is handy if you forget essentials. The on-site restaurant (open weekends usually) is ideal for a nice meal, otherwise the pub is always welcoming in the village. Maple Lodge is ideal for couples, families or friends who want to experience some country living away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The location is ideal for enjoying water sports on Kielder Water Park or visiting the observatory. Situated only 16 miles from the Border Counties, Maple Lodge is also perfect if you want to visit Scotland. The borders are steeped in history all relating to the battles between the Scots and the English. Nearby Bellingham, 9 miles, has a few shops, a butchers and pubs. Hadrians Wall is easily reached, and the Northumberland Heritage Coast make a great day out where miles of golden beaches dotted with castles await. Visitors are spoilt for places to go with so much to do in Northumberland. While you are in Otterburn make sure to visit Otterburn Mill, a great outlet for outdoor wear with a little café and some mill history. Leafy Run (ref W44043) is a contemporary-style lodge with a hot tub and a peaceful decked area. Reiver’s Rest (ref UKC3402) was completely renovated in 2018, with a private hot tub on the raised south-facing decking and backs onto the woodland in the top corner of the park, with walks from the door. With a fully renovated restaurant on site, the lodges are less than a mile from the centre of the village of Otterburn, on the very edge of the Northumberland National Park. The park is just inside the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest in Europe, ideal for stargazers and astronomers. The village has a mill shop, and the shop/café sells local produce. A highly acclaimed wedding venue, Le Petit Château is easily accessed only a mile away and guests can enjoy staying in the lodges and having some downtime after the wedding. The long wooded drive up to the park sets the scene for your break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Otterburn village has a friendly village shop stocking all the essentials including a wine selection, and nearby Otterburn Mill is a great outlet for indoor and outdoor wear and is popular all year around. The local tourist information centre is also located here. The small town of Bellingham is only 9 miles away with a golf course, cafés and pubs as well as a supermarket. The town has a quirky tearoom set in old carriages with a small visitor centre telling the history of the invasions from the Scots around the area.

The Northumberland Heritage Coastal route is easily reachable for a lovely day trip out where you can visit Alnwick Castle which was used in some ‘Harry Potter’ scenes. Northumberland is one of the friendliest counties in England and truly deserves the award in 2018 for the Best County to Visit in the British Tourism Awards. Take a trip into Newcastle and see the iconic Tyne Bridge or drive over to Hadrian’s Wall and visit some of the Roman Museums. Shop 800 yards, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.

Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.

The traditional fishing port of Seahouses is a short drive up the coastline, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony, depart regularly from its harbour.
