A grand old country house, still a family home – Buntingsdale Hall, an 18th Century masterpiece, stands in its own grounds overlooking the River Tern not far from the pretty county town of Market Drayton.
Approached down a mile long private drive, the principal apartment of the Victorian wing is yours. Following sensitive modernisation the apartment has all the comfort one expects but the grand bedrooms and drawing room with 18 ft. high ceilings retain all their Victorian splendour.
Think huge; supper in an enormous eat-in family kitchen, cocktail hour in the elegant living room. Relax on the big sofas, mix cocktails from the 1950s bar cart in front of the fire; maybe find out who killed Miss Scarlet from the board games trunk, while the little ones build wooden trains from the kids’ trunk - they’ll be too busy to look at their phones! After supper, the party continues down in the former servant’s hall, now a games room, with a full size snooker table, roulette wheel, darts, table tennis and roaring fire.
Five bedrooms, classic country house decor of antiques and florals, four en-suite bathrooms (two baths, two showers), family bathroom. Cotton bed linen throughout, with wool throws and lots of cushions, guests frequently comment on our comfortable beds.
Outside there’s a private secluded courtyard with a BBQ and a big table for all, and walks directly from the door. Do bring Fido; you can all walk a couple of miles across the fields to the pub in Market Drayton which has hearty food all day, brews its own beer, loves dogs and kids, with big tables and fires.
Within the estate is a private lake -carry one of our kayaks down with your picnic and barbecue gear and enjoy the stars. One of the most unspoilt parts of the UK for stargazing. Around you are all kinds of wildlife rarely glimpsed, birds of prey, kingfishers, badgers and wild fishing. Old fashioned fun: children can make camps and swing on trees, paddle. There’s a boat or they can borrow a bike and ride down the private drive to swim in the local millpond. There’s a fire pit with straw bales for a warm fire in the evening. The lake’s just across the drive, entirely private. Shops and pubs 2 miles.

This property is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the rural Shropshire countryside. Set in an elevated position, this holiday home enjoys rural views of the area including views over the nearby church. Accessed via a stone track, the property is surrounded by its own land and includes lawned gardens and a decked area to the rear of the property to sit and enjoy al fresco dining.
Applewood is a large detached property which offers five double bedrooms, three of which benefit from en-suite facilities. The property also boasts a large family bathroom on the ground floor with a shower over bath, and a separate rainhead shower cubicle. The property also comprises a large living room which leads through to the conservatory, which overlooks the garden and takes in the surrounding views. The kitchen/dining room is fully fitted and includes a kitchen island for extra space for food and drink preparation, and the double doors from the dining room can be opened to give access and further space from the conservatory.
Applewood is located within easy driving distance of the town of Much Wenlock, a popular tourist destination offering a selection of independent shops and attractions. Iron Bridge, home to the world’s first iron bridge, is just 7 miles away. The property is also set just 10 miles from Telford and Shrewsbury town centre which gives access to many bars, restaurants and shops, along with tourist attractions such as the historic sites of Longnor Hall and Shrewsbury Abbey. For the more active there are outdoor activities on offer from cycling to walking, golf and fishing. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Friary Cottage is a Grade II Listed, detached and renovated town cottage. Well-positioned and beautifully presented with some antique furniture, it boasts original, quirky features and is only a 5-minute walk from the centre of the town and a 3-minute walk from Ludlow’s train station. A cosy wood burner and gas fired Aga are amongst the treasures of the house. From the sun room/conservatory there is a new garden room to enjoy. Guests can also enjoy a private enclosed rear garden, a separate, small walled courtyard, and it is located on one of the most prominent streets of this charming medieval town. Ludlow is overshadowed by its own majestic castle, as it was once, like York, a seat of Government in Tudor and Stuart England. Now hosting the famous food festivals and events throughout the year, there is always a lively atmosphere here. It has a reputation for fine foods, award-winning restaurants, speciality and antique shops and even a racecourse. An excellent base to explore the unrivalled countryside for picnicking and walking or nearby towns such as Bridgnorth and Bewdley (Severn Valley Railway), Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Tenbury Wells and Leominster. The cathedral city of Hereford with its chained library and Mappa Mundi are all within a short drive, as are historic houses such as Witley Court, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Stokesay Castle and Powis Castle on the Welsh borders. Acton Scott, an historic working farm and the Secret Hills Discovery Centre are all just a few of the nearby attractions, so you will never be short of something to see. They are now connected by the steepest inland funicular railway in Britain.
Bridgnorth is fortunate to have many attractions scattered around its luscious countryside. You can have an unforgettable day’s time travel by steam railway. Just a short car journey takes you to the world famous Ironbridge and its popular museums, The Royal Air Force Museum and Boscobel House. A few miles upstream of Bridgnorth is Shrewsbury, England’s finest Tudor town, which has one of the best waterfronts, a wide variety of shops, bars and a riverside theatre. Attingham Park, Benthall Hall, Dudmaston Hall, Rays Farm Country Matters, Much Wenlock, West Midland Safari Park, Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow are also well worth a visit. In a semi-isolated position, in the rural hamlet of Upton Cressett, Orchard Cottage is surrounded by the most amazing scenery, with its own private hot tub and patio area in an enclosed garden and robes provided for your convenience. This amazing property is ideal for families and pet friendly holidays. Just 4 miles is the centre of Bridgnorth, with its castle ruins, fantastic river and countryside views, two railways, one steam and one funicular railway, and a good selection of shops bars and restaurants. Shropshire has many quaint towns and villages to visit including Much Wenlock, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Shrewsbury, all are accessible within a 30-minute drive. Activity centres are dotted around the county offering anything from clay shooting, high ropes and canoeing to mountain biking and Segway and quad trekking. Nearby is also the historical National Trust Attingham Park, Wenlock Edge and Cardingmill Valley, as well as Stokesay and Ludlow castles. The Secret Hills Discovery Centre and Acton Scott Working Farm are great for children, and the glider centre on the Long Mynd and horse racing at Ludlow are also available nearby. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles. Local pub in Morville, 1.5 mile walk (cross country and hilly terrain, so get your walking boots on!)

This pretty, detached stone cottage sits in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty only 5 miles from the foot of the Long Mynd on the Shropshire border, close to the Welsh Marches. The Onny Trail is on the doorstep leading to walks on Wart Hill, Hopesay Hill on the Shropshire Way, and the Jack Mytton Way which goes up over the long Mynd. It has an enviable position close to the road networks, yet has fields and woodland to the rear. The field across the road belongs to the owners and has the River Onny running along the bottom where you can relax and try your hand at some wild fishing. The cottage has its own private patio area with sole use of a six-seater hot tub.
Shropshire is a great area to visit with plenty of activities and places to visit within a short distance. Some of the attractions include Acton Scott Working Farm, Secret Hills Discovery Centre, Stokesay Castle, and the vibrant market town of Ludlow with its castle, racecourse, weekly markets, and numerous food fairs held throughout the year. The Glider Centre on the Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley (National Trust) is a must for adrenaline lovers. The beautiful market town of Ludlow, well known for its food festival and Historic Shrewsbury is set on the banks of the River Severn and offers a great selection of shops, bars, and restaurants. While in nearby Condover there is an activity centre where family activities include low ropes, high ropes, kayaking, and laser tag. The Edge Adventure Activity Centre at Much Wenlock offers quad bike trekking, clay shooting, mountain boarding, and much more.
For a more relaxed approach to your holiday there are some lovely towns and areas to visit such as Bridgnorth with the Severn Valley Railway, inland funicular railway, and the historic Ironbridge gorge and museums. From the property within an hour’s drive, there are Powys Castle, Berrington Hall, and Attingham Park all National Trust properties and just a little further you will find Chirk Castle, Erddig, and Croft Castle.
