Swimbridge, EnglandIn the grounds of the owners’ very well-presented and maintained fishing venue, these three holiday properties (refs 29794, 30788 and 31308) are well-equipped to ensure a restful holiday. Kingfisher is a detached, single-storey cottage, sleeping six guests, The Lodge is set over two floors and sleeps four guests, and Mole is semi-detached and also sleeps four guests. The cottages have their own enclosed, lawned garden with sitting-out area and views across the beautiful grounds. There are two well-stocked coarse fishing lakes at Riverton which are included in the price of your stay, as well as a third beautiful lake (members only).
If you are not fishing, there is still plenty to do in this lovely part of Devon. Located just outside the regional town of Barnstaple, the cottages are in an ideal location to explore this stunning part of the British Isles. A few miles away, you have access to some of the best beaches in the country including Woolacombe and Saunton. The nearest beach at Instow is ideal for children or just a great place to walk off life’s stresses, and then enjoy a meal or drink at one of the pubs and restaurants along the front. The town of Barnstaple is only a short drive away and has most amenities you may require as well as a busy high street and market. There are numerous places of interest close by including the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village of Clovelly. For the younger ones, a visit to the Big Sheep or Milkyway is a good option. There is walking on Dartmoor or hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail. Clay pigeon shooting can be organised by prior arrangement with the owner. - Okehampton, EnglandGrattan Cottage (ref UK11036) and Manor Cottage (ref UK11037) are set within the extensive grounds of the historic and Grade II listed Grattan Manor, just outside the village of Bow. A freshwater spring within the grounds is the apparent exact centre of Devon. Both cottages are furnished and equipped to a very good standard and each has its own unique character and charm. Wood burners, well-equipped kitchens and private patio areas all contribute to the appeal of the cottages. Both Grattan Cottage, which is detached, and Manor Cottage, a wing of a property, overlook the old orchard, a large lawned area with some of the remaining fruit trees. It’s ideal for sitting out on a warm summer’s day or taking the dog for an early morning stretch. Within the orchard, each cottage has a private sitting-out area; Grattan Cottage has a raised gazebo and the use of a barbecue hut in the orchard. Croquet is occasionally available by prior arrangement with the Lord of the Manor, i.e. the owner. All-weather tennis court (please bring your own equipment). Outdoor, open, shared swimming pool - available in the summer months and later if weather allows - in the attractive walled garden.
The village of Bow is a short distance away and has a pub and well-stocked local convenience store. Due to the central location, the cottages make an ideal base from which to explore the north and south of Devon, as well as the beautiful surrounding Devon countryside. The regional towns of Credit and Okehampton (considered the gateway to the Dartmoor National Park) are easily reached, and the towns provide a good range of shops and amenities.
On Dartmoor there are plenty of walks for all ages and abilities to enjoy this stunning and dramatic area, as well as some pretty villages with pubs and tea rooms. There are many fine beaches and coves along north or south Devon, steam trains here and there, and a trip to Lundy Island can be arranged from Bideford pier. Ask the owner for information on river boat excursions along the Dart, especially from Totnes on Dartmoor. Numerous places of interest close include the R.H.S. gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal (glass blowing etc.) and the unique, historic fishing village of Clovelly is not far from Port Isaac (remember ’Doc Martin?’). Visit the last castle to be built in England at Castle Drogo (National Trust), with a nearby excellent riverside pub. There is golf at Okehampton and nearby Crediton, or you can hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail at Great Torrington. Or simply relax amongst the beautiful grounfs surrounding the Manor. Shop 1¼ miles, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

The market towns of Launceston and Okehampton are a short drive away, and the rugged coastlines of North Devon and Cornwall are just 9 miles away, where there is beautiful scenery and excellent surfing opportunities. Coastal and country walking, golf, surfing, fishing, horse riding and cycling are all available close by, and for family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure Park are not to be missed. Bideford, EnglandHigh in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.
Set in 30 acres of parkland and woods, with grazing sheep, deer, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons giving a spectacular spring display. While the organic walled kitchen gardens grow some more unusual varieties of vegetables to the UK. You will find Romanesco, Cavelo Nero, and Pink Fir Apple potatoes to name a few, all complimentary subject to season and availability.
