Located just metres from the beautiful Camel Trail, this former threshing barn, now converted to stylish holiday accommodation, provides the ideal base to relax and enjoy the county of Cornwall. It lies in a rural setting with the Camel River running past the barn, and has use of private riverside area, with an enclosed garden, at your discretion. This stretch of the river is a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ and therefore is mostly left as natural as possible to promote and encourage wildlife. If you are lucky, you may see otters, deer, stoats, bats, salmon, sea trout and a variety of birds including rarer kingfishers, nuthatch, owls and buzzards.
Travelling west from the barn will first bring you to Wadebridge, a delightful market town with all you need, including bike hire, a cinema, supermarkets and many local craft and gift shops. While on route to Wadebridge, the Camel Trail passes the Camel Valley Vineyard, a family run business that produces award winning wines. Continuing along the trail from Wadebridge, the views open up across the amazing Camel Estuary until you reach the coastal town of Padstow with its working harbour, narrow streets and Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant.

The ancient town of Bodmin has many attractions including the Bodmin and Welford Steam Railway, which leaves the old town station and chugs down the valley to the mainline branch, what a way to tour the county. The ancient Bodmin Jail is also well worth visiting for a little bit of ghoulish history. The surrounding Bodmin Moor offers a great escape from the norm where you can find Jamaica Inn, immortalised in Daphne Du Maurier’s book of the same name. The stunning National Trust property of Lanhydrock House is close by and has many activities throughout the year. You may wish to explore coastal Cornwall, and Chapel Barn is equidistant from both the dramatic north coast and the sub tropical south coast, both with very different scenery. The beaches of the north and the villages of Port Isaac, home to the TV series ’Doc Martin’, and Polzeath have many attractions including many world class golf courses, great local pubs and celebrity chefs including Nathan Outlaw and Rick Stein. The surfing town of Newquay, Watergate Bay and the sea faring and literary town of Fowey, all offer superb and different days while enjoying your stay in Chapel Barn. Caerhays Castle, and Porthluney Beach, are two beautiful little beaches that provide the perfect place for a moonlit stroll, or somewhere to practise building sandcastles with your little ones. A similar distance away will bring you to the world famous Lost Gardens of Heligan, the quaint fishing port of Mevagissey and the Georgian Port of Charlestown (with its resident tall ships). Further afield is the Eden Project, the capital city of Truro, St Mawes and the surfing beaches of Newquay.

Set within a private gated community of five properties, this is a mid-terrace, eco-friendly home with much of the original stone retained to keep the charm and heritage alive. The property is set over three levels and in addition to uninterrupted sunsets and the sound of crashing waves, boasts a host of entertainment including board games, books, music and audiobooks through Amazon Echo, hundreds of DVDs, TVs in most rooms, a PlayStation 3 with games and a Nintendo Wii. For your relaxation you also have available a steam shower, aromatherapy and mood lighting. There is also a private hot tub situated on a decked area of the balcony.
The Fish Cellars is the perfect base for you to explore this historic and exciting area, known as the hidden gem of Cornwall. Portwrinkle is a small village on the south east coast of Cornwall, with views along Whitsand Bay, which can be seen for miles on a sunny day from the private balcony. Portwrinkle has two sand and shingle beaches, one of which is Finnygook beach and is popular with experienced surfers, however there are plenty of rock pools for the children to explore (nets available in the house), or you can just sit back and relax and take in the dramatic coastline around you.
The South West Coast Path is only 100 yards away and is perfect for enjoying a leisurely walk, whilst taking in the spectacular views of the coastline. It is characterised by high cliffs, dramatic scenery and long stretches of sandy beaches just waiting to be discovered.
A short drive away, or if you’re feeling adventurous, an 8-mile coastal path walk, is the traditional fishing village of Looe. The long harbour wall stretches up to the Victorian bridge. You can take a trip to Looe Island and explore the rock pools or go crabbing, you may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the grey seal colony. There’s plenty of opportunities for sailing and fishing trips, too. You can also relax on the sandy beach in Looe, paddle in the sea or roam around the shops, museums and galleries. The local fish market sells fish straight off the boats from the harbour, something for a special dinner perhaps.
Down the road from Looe is the historic fishing village of Polperro with its winding streets, once a thriving centre for smugglers. The pretty village cottages are perched on steep slopes overlooking the harbour. There are many displays of local art and crafts, and you can sample local produce in one of the many cafés and restaurants Polperro has to offer. The inner harbour is full of colourful boats and is still a working harbour to this day.
Slightly further afield are the famous Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both around a 50-60-minute drive away. The Eden Project hosts concerts and themed events throughout the year and has plenty to keep children and adults fascinated. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, set in 200 acres of garden history, were once lost under brambles and have been restored to their former glory. You can explore the gardens and the estate in your own time and appreciate why Heligan is one of the finest gardens in England. Historic homes closer to hand are Mount Edgcumbe House and Anthony House.
There is so much to see and do here, beautiful beaches, fishing villages, coastal walks, cycling, fishing, golf, horse riding and a plethora of National Trust properties are all available locally. Beach 170 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant.
