South Steading is located on a small farm, on the outskirts of West Kilbride; Scotland’s first accredited Craft Town. It’s been lovingly converted by the owners, with views overlooking the surrounding countryside, you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings whilst having village amenities only a short 5 min drive away.

Converted by the owners, South Steadings is rich in character with traditional stone floors. All on one level, the barn offers a high standard of comfort throughout and is a great choice at any time of the year. Ideal for couples or families, there are three bedrooms with welcoming cosy beds, a king-size bedroom with en-suite walk-in shower room, a double room and a twin served by a stylish family bathroom with bath & shower over. The large open plan living/kitchen/diner is a great social space with a log burner to keep you warm whatever the weather!
Perfect for families, there’s a large enclosed garden with Hot Tub, log cabin, plenty of toys/books to occupy the kids plus a travel cot & highchair available. Storage space for outdoor gear, bikes and kayaks in private barn storage. Dogs are most welcome who will also enjoy the enclosed garden, with an outside tap, ideal for giving them a bath or cool down!
Just 2 miles from South Steading, is the pretty seaside town of West Kilbride with fantastic views across the water to Arran and surrounding islands. Designated Scotland’s first Craft Town, visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the village where they will find a range of cafes, mini galleries, a dedicated craft centre, pubs and gift shops. Also offering the more practical elements for your holiday such as a post office, small supermarkets and a railway station.
Ayrshire is famous worldwide for golf and offers world class championship courses at Turnberry, Royal Troon and Prestwick. The West Kilbride Golf Club offers a championship links course located in Seamill, 3 miles from the farm.
Largs and Ardrossan are popular seaside towns, 8 miles and 7 miles away respectively, where there are watersports offered. Sandy beaches in Seamill. The Firth of Clyde has excellent sailing with yachting clubs and marinas at Ardrossan,Largs, Inverkip and Troon. There are also good opportunities for hill walking and mountain biking, field sports including horse riding, shooting and fishing. Visitors will enjoy visiting the historic castles at Portencross, Hunterston and Law Castle and enjoy the views from the local Tarbert Hill and Law Hill.
Ferries from Ardrossan a short distance from the barn take you to isle of Arran and short ferry hop from Largs to the small island of Cumbrae to visit the only town on the island, Millport for an icecream or enjoy a cycle, 11miles around the whole island.

The loch is ideal to swim, SUP or on windier days is great for windsurfing. Guests are welcome to bring their own unpowered craft which can be launched from the beach. There are endless miles of forest roads, footpaths through woodlands and around the loch. For the more adventurous, there are hills and mountains to climb such as Ben Ledi, Ben Venue and Ben A’an. For cyclists, the Dukes Pass offers an unrivalled road riding route and for gravel riders, there are over 200 miles of single and wide tracked gravel tracks.
Carsaig is situated near the famous Route 7 which is is part of the National Cycle Network, which takes in some of the most breathtaking scenery in the UK. For mountain bikers, the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park is home to Britain’s largest off-road cycle network. This area is ideal for golfing with several local courses close by, and the famous Gleneagles course is only 40 minutes’ drive. Kids can enjoy local activities such as the treetop adventures of Go Ape at Aberfoyle or the waterpark assault course at Loch Ard. The bustling Highland town of Callander, with a variety of quaint shops, tearooms, restaurants, and bars, is only 5 minutes’ drive and ideal for sourcing supplies. After exploring the local area, unwind in the hot tub or relax on the decking with a glass of wine and enjoy the incredible views across the loch to Ben Venue. Wildlife is abundant including red squirrels, red kites, and ospreys as well as local birds which are frequent visitors. Nestled away in the charming village of Gargunnock, this traditional, detached stone built cottage dates back to the late 1800s and has been renovated to provide a welcoming, spacious holiday cottage. There are plenty of walks through the countryside. The hills around the village have splendid views over to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park and Ben Lomond. For guests who enjoy exploring the local area by bike, there are numerous quiet roads and pathways through the countryside and to the neighbouring village of Kippen. There is trout and salmon fishing on the nearby Lake of Mentieth and you will need a licence. Enjoy a round of golf on one of the numerous golf courses nearby and Gleneagles Resort can be reached in under 45 minutes.
A great location for exploring the local area, Stirling is only 6 miles away and offers guests an abundance of historic and popular attractions to visit and explore, including Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. Stirling has something to suit all ages and tastes with many popular events held at the Toll Booth and Albert Halls. There is a regular Farmers Market offering local produce, as well as many various pubs, restaurants and a shopping centre. For fans of the epic TV series Outlander there are several places to visit that were used in the filming, Doune Castle is only 15 minutes’ drive and others can be reached in under an hour.
For the kids in particular. there are Blair Drummond Safari Park, Briarlands Farm Park and Stirling Alpaca Centre all within 5 miles.
At the edge of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Briar Cottage is an ideal location for outdoor activities or a scenic drive through breathtaking scenery with lochs and mountains. The motorway network is only 10 minutes away and less than an hour takes you to the vibrant cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth and Dundee. If you would prefer to leave the car then Stirling railway station has a frequent regular service.

Set in the heart of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, The Stables and The Ploughmans are cottages which have been thoughtfully converted from farm buildings using the original old stone and set within an attractive courtyard next to the farm house. They are surrounded by unspoilt countryside and set in a haven of peace and tranquillity, providing a wonderful holiday retreat and an ideal base for friends and family to spend time together and explore Loch Lomond and beyond. Set on a working farm with cattle and sheep, the owner will arrange a private tour of a modern day dairy for guests, by prior arrangement. If you enjoy fishing then complimentary permits are available (by prior arrangement) on the owners private stretch of Endrick River nearby.
If you enjoy outdoor activities, there is walking, cycling, golf, fishing, pony trekking and water sports nearby, as well the Rob Roy Way and Cycle Track 7, both of which pass close by making this a perfect location for nature lovers to explore one of Scotland’s most picturesque areas with lochs, mountains and spectacular scenery. The Trossachs Discovery Centre is well worth a visit where you can learn more about this exciting area, there are cruise trips on both Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine. In the surrounding area there are some excellent places for food and drink, the famous Nick Nairn Cook School is only 10 minutes’ drive, there are several whisky distilleries within 30 minutes’ drive and restaurants, cafés and farm shops. This area is steeped in history, Stirling is 18 miles away with its ancient castle, Wallace monument and Bannockburn Visitor Centre, along with many historic links to people such as Rob Roy Macgregor, William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots, all of whom had a part to play in the history of this area. There are lots of film locations to be visited within a short drive including Doune Castle which became the fictional Castle Leoch.
The Stables is a terraced cottage and provides easy access with a comfortable double bedroom and wet room on the ground floor. The spacious cosy living room has patio doors leading to the garden making it perfect for al fresco dining in the summer months or just relaxing and admiring the views. The large kitchen/dining room is well-equipped and all guests can comfortably sit around the table and plan their next day’s adventures. On the first floor there is a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a twin bedroom and a large family bathroom with bath and shower cubicle.
The Ploughmans is ideal for a couple or a small family. On the ground floor there is a comfortable living room and French doors that lead into the well-kept garden, offering the perfect spot to sit, relax and enjoy the views, escaping from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There is an open plan kitchen/dining room where you can prepare that special meal. On the first floor there is a spacious double bedroom, a twin bedroom and family bathroom.

The West Highland Way is easily joined and you can follow part of it along the shore surrounded by breath-taking scenery. Explore the loch on the water with a cruise and visit the many islands or hire your own boat and take a picnic for a day on the water. Ideal for a day out and within easy driving distance, Loch Lomond Shores has a sea life aquarium, water sports, shops, restaurants and regularly hosts events. The cosmopolitan city of Glasgow can be reached in under an hour. The city centre is just packed with places to eat, drink, shop as well as theatres, tourist attractions and historic buildings.
