An enclosed horse paddock is also available for dogs to run free, horses accepted by request and private arrangement. Osborne House was once Queen Victoria’s favourite residence and is open to the public and well worth a visit, as are Carisbrook Castle, The Needles rock formations, Robin Hill park with acres of parkland, natural woodland, countryside gardens, adventures, and special events, Ventnor Botanical Gardens and Shanklin Chine, a deep wooded gorge with streams and waterfalls.
The model village at Godshill is also not to be missed as this gives a good overview of the island and its attractions, all in miniature of course. Start your holiday as soon as you hop onto one of the many ferry options, whether you whiz over on the Hovercraft or one of the car ferry links.

Loch Riddon is a designated National Scenic Area with a famous viewing platform on the opposite shore. The area has featured in many Visit Scotland commercials because of its beauty. Which is why the outside is now an extension of the interior space, so guests feel part of the spectacular seaside environment. Just beside the kitchen there is a stylish sun trap deck area with its own dry-stone walling and terraced gardens providing a secluded spot for dining, with a log-burning chiminea for the cooler evenings.

Oakwood is situated just in front of Sewerby Hall and Gardens, a beautiful Georgian mansion set in 50-acres of landscaped gardens, plus a zoo to keep the children entertained. This detached property lies in the village of Sewerby, on the clifftops of the east Yorkshire coast overlooking the bay of Bridlington. The seafront is just a short stroll away, where you can walk along the clifftop to Bridlington, or catch the land train which runs several times a day throughout the summer. In the opposite direction is Danes Dyke, a local nature reserve. There are many stately homes to visit in the area, including Burton Agnes Hall, Sledmere House and Castle Howard. Hull, the City of Culture 2017, and the medieval city of York can be reached within an hour by both car or train. The market towns of Beverley, Driffield and Pocklington, with their charming independent shops and cafes, are well worth a visit.
