Recently built in 2022, the property sits alongside the owner’s home on a working farm (dogs are present on the farm, but will be with the owners), and is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just outside the town of Ottery St. Mary. This cosy rural retreat offers a great base for a couple or a family looking to explore the delights of the beautiful county of Devon, and the unique experience of the deer being able to wander right up to the fence bordering the property’s garden whilst relaxing in the private hot tub.
As you enter Deer View Retreat, you will be welcomed into the entrance area with patio doors opening out into the garden, the perfect cosy spot to enjoy a mug of coffee with a good book. This then leads through to the open plan living and dining area where you can wind down and watch a film after a busy day exploring the coastline or enjoy a family meal together. Enjoy your breakfast in the well-equipped kitchen whilst taking in the far reaching views, the stag with his magnificent antlers and the ever-changing scenery. There’s also a handy utility area next door.
Discover the two stylish bedrooms and the bathroom on the first floor. The first has a double bed, the second is furnished with zip and link twin beds, and the shower room is fitted with a walk-in shower, heated towel rail, toilet and sink.
The town of Ottery St. Mary has beautiful architecture and historic buildings lining the streets, backed by rural Devonshire countryside. Wander through the centre to browse independent shops and galleries or stroll along the River Otter to admire the unusual Tumbling Weir. If you’re exploring beyond the town, you’ll be close to the quintessential East Devon coastal towns and villages of Budleigh Salterton, Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth, Exmouth and Seaton. Exeter and Honiton are also within easy reach. The Southwest Coast Path is nearby and keen hikers should head to Dartmoor National Park with is just a 30-minute drive away. These two stone built holiday cottages (ref 29227 and ref TJU) date back to the 17 century and enjoy a rural location with superb sea views. Pet-friendly Downhouse Cottage was extended in Victorian times, while Downhouse has a rustic feel with a clome oven in the fireplace and a large garden. Water is supplied from a borehole; the water is wonderful and is tested annually, so no need for bottled water.

Bring your bucket and spade as the glorious sandy beach at Morfa Dyffryn is just a mile down the road and offers superb views over to the Rhinog Mountains. For the more adventurous, Zip World and Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog are a thrill seekers delight, whilst the famous Ffestiniog Railway and mighty Harlech Castle are also well worth a visit. These pet friendly holiday barns are situated less than half a mile from the stunning north coast of Cornwall. The access is via a typical Cornish narrow road with beautiful scenic views of the sea peeping out through the hedgerow on approach.

In the heart of this small Cornish hamlet, the barns (refs 30108, 30109, 30110 and 30111) are furnished and fitted to provide a comfortable base from which to explore the many attractions that Cornwall has to offer.
Each barn has a well-equipped kitchen as well as open-plan living. Each has its own sitting-out area, which is ideal for watching the wildlife and al fresco dining. Each property also has access to electric car charging points which a charge for use however if you require using the charging points you must bring your own lead. This barn has the private use of a hot tub, but please note the first night the temperature may not of quite reached it’s optimal temperature due to the replenishment of fresh water post cleaning the tub.
There are no local amenities as it is in a hamlet, but only a 5 minute car journey to the local village; we suggest you look at the welcome folder in the cottage to familiarise yourself to your surroundings and to discover what amenities are local to your stay. Guests are close to the coastal path and if you walk north, you will reach Tintagel, the mythical home of King Arthur, with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants. A little further on, Boscastle with its picturesque harbour is a must. A small beach can be reached on foot, approximately ½ mile away. Travelling down the coast, guests will come to Port Isaac, where the TV series ’Doc Martin’ is filmed, and further down the coast, visit the beautiful sandy surfing beach at Polzeath and the dunes at Rock where you can take a ferry across to Padstow. From Padstow, with its working harbour, shops, pubs and restaurants, you can hire bikes and cycle the Camel Trail to Wadebridge and beyond to Bodmin.
Close by is Bodmin Moor, unspoilt moorland at its best, and for walkers the tors on the moor are a must. Further down the coast is Newquay, with its famous surfing beaches, Blue Reef Aquarium and Zoo and if you travel to the south coast, you will find Looe, Fowey and Mevagissey, just a few of the charming coastal villages. For cycling enthusiasts, there is a cycle hub at Lanhydrock, with some wonderful forest routes to be taken. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

Also within easy driving distance are Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, museums, vineyards and wildlife centres. Centrally located on the Isle of Wight, Fair Isle House is a great base to explore the famous Needles, Alum Bay and Black Gang Chine, which are all within a short drive away. Nearby are the attractions of Robin Hill Adventure Park and Gardens and Arreton Barns, the Isle of Wight’s hub for artisans and craftspeople, as well as Brading Down, a local nature reserve with outstanding natural beauty. Buses into Newport and Ryde (the two main bus stations) are about 5 minutes away to take you anywhere you want to go on the Island. Fishing nearby. Beach 7 miles. Shop and restaurant 1 mile. Travel south to the traditional market town of Cardigan, where the beautifully restored castle is not to be missed with 900 years of history to uncover. Enjoy a short walk into the village to discover the traditional Welsh pub or a freshly brewed coffee in the village café. There’s so much to explore in Cardigan Bay but if you want a day out to Pembrokeshire you can reach the well-known family attractions of Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo within an hour’s drive.
