All amenities are close by, with a pub and shop in nearby Bontnewydd. Only a short 5-mile drive takes you down to the beautiful beach at Dinas Dinlle, which is well worth a visit, with wonderful views across the bay to Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula. The area is a designated Site of Special Scientific interest due to a number of rare birds that live in the area; a must for any bird watchers. For the more adventurous, you’re only a short drive from many walking routes that will take you up Mount Snowdon, for the less adventurous there’s always the easier route up by train on the famous railway in Llanberis. And no visit to this area would be complete without taking in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Caernarfon Castle. You’re also only a short drive to Zip World, the longest zip wire in the world! What a magnificent area this really is!

Hazelgrove is a characterful holiday home on the south side of Loch Ness in the small village of Inverfarigaig near Foyers. It’s perched in a spectacular spot with views out over the Loch. Hazelgrove is a magical place to spend a week or two with the entire family. The south side of Loch Ness is arguably the more attractive and certainly much quieter. Along General Wade’s 18th century military road from Inverness you will reach the dramatic little village of Inverfarigaig. The rushing waters of the River Farigaig run through the village and there are numerous trails heading off to explore the surrounding forests and lochs. The South Loch Ness Trail is worth exploring and so too is The Trail of the 7 Lochs, both easily accessible from Inverfarigaig.
Beyond the River Farigaig you soon see Hazelgrove’s sign on the left. The cottage is perched up on the left but within a short stroll of the loch side. Walking up to the timber clad Hazelgrove through mature enclosed gardens you’ll be chuffed with your decision to pick this property for your holiday. You rise up to the cottage’s veranda and Loch Ness dominates the view – it’s spectacular! The rocking chair on the veranda is a nice touch as sitting in this spot is truly good for the soul. Into the property and the vestibule leads into the open-plan living/dining space which makes the most of the view of Loch Ness. There’s an incredible stone fireplace framing the woodburning stove. The kitchen is beyond this space and is well-equipped, including an Aga in addition to an electric oven and hob. Out to the back of Hazelgrove next to the kitchen is a utility room with a washing machine, overhead clothes airer and ironing facilities, and a boot room with access to the wrap-around garden. On the other side of the house are the three bedrooms, two doubles and a single, as well as the family bathroom. All views from the bedrooms are of the garden and surrounding forest making them perfect places to rest and recharge. The outside of Hazelgrove is special. Nestled beneath the trees of the Farigaig forest where red squirrels and pine martens can be spotted, the mature garden is fully enclosed for dogs to run around at will. There’s an even better view from the top of the plot to the rear of the property. There’s a patio with garden furniture for visitors to sit out late in the evening to watch the sunset over Loch Ness. It’s a very special place to spend time.
Hazelgrove is also an excellent base from which to explore the Highlands. Foyers is a great village a short way away with a amazing waterfalls and places to eat and drink. Beyond Foyers the south side of Loch Ness with its network of lanes and trails is brilliant to explore. Fort Augustus isn’t far away and Fort William beyond isn’t a long drive. Inverness is less than thirty minutes drive away, so you’re well connected at Hazelgrove. You can get to Ben Nevis, the Isle of Skye, the Black Isle and the Cairngorms National Park easily from Hazelgrove, but many people will simply want to just stay put by the Loch and enjoy keeping an eye out for Nessie!

The Horseshoe Annex is a Tardis of a property with lots of room in a very cosy space. As you walk into the property you are greeted by the kitchen/dining room which is well-equipped with everything you are going to need for this year’s staycation. Steyning itself is a pretty historical town with a wealth of 16th century buildings, local independent shops, places to eat and drink and the host to many different festivals. If you are a more of a biker then there are plenty of trails locally, to keep you busy. Wroxham Barns has a café and stalls offering handmade pottery, crafts, delicatessen, children’s play area and small farm animal petting area. BeWILDerwood at Horning is also a must for families. Coltishall is 3 miles away with a selection of shops and riverside pubs. The market town of North Walsham is 4 miles for shops, cafés and restaurants. The Norfolk sandy beaches can be found at Mundesley and Happisburgh (10 miles) and Bacton, Walcott and Sea Palling (12 miles). The popular seaside resort of Cromer is 13½ miles with a promenade, pier, Amazona Zoo, golf course, tennis courts and town centre with shops, cafés and restaurants. Sheringham is 18 miles for a visit to the museum with its lifeboat exhibition, golf course and headquarters of the North Norfolk Steam Railway (which is a must for any steam enthusiast) and the town centre with shops, cafés and restaurants. Blickling Hall (NT), 9 miles and Felbrigg Hall (NT), 15½ miles. There are RSPB nature reserves at Hickling Broad, Strumpshaw Fenn and along the North Norfolk Coastline. The city of Norwich is 11 miles away and offers excellent shopping, cathedral, castle museum, market square, theatre, art galleries, two indoor shopping malls, cinema complex, cafés and restaurants. Yew Tree Cottage is located in the quaint village of Holymoorside, one of the many hamlets in Chesterfield. It is home to two fantastic pubs, one of which is owned by Peak Ales meaning it has fantastic local beers on offer, and the second pub’s head chef featured on the Great British Menu and offers fantastic food options. There are ample walks directly from the door or a little further you can reach trails taking you to Linacre reservoir or into Matlock which is the next town on. The town is full of high street shops, great restaurants and there are many tourist attractions locally such as Chatsworth House which is only 6 miles away.

For anyone looking to explore the area on bike, the Sandstone Ridge provides quiet lanes over rolling hills with great café and lunch spots to break up your route, and off road trails are found at Delamere, and Llandegla Mountain Biking centre for the more adventurous riders. Secure bike storage is available at the property, although bikes can also be hired at local trail centres. Children will enjoy The Crocky Trail, Delamere Forest and Wild Shore Delamere which can all be reached in around 30 minutes, and for those seeking pampering or golf, a 10-minute drive will take you to a luxury country estate with spa and leisure facilities, together with two championship golf courses.
The centre of Manchester can be reached in around an hour, Liverpool in around 45 minutes or the historic city walls of Chester in around half an hour. There’s motor racing at Oulton Park, 30 minutes, the stunning Welsh Mountains or the Wirral Peninsula in around 60 minutes. You really are spoilt for choice!

Nearby, Leaplish Waterside Park has a hop on/hop off ferry, which takes you all around the water to admire the stunning scenery with a visitor centre, bird of prey centre and bar with outdoor picnic area, as well as a swimming pool and spa, ideal for a few hours of relaxation. The historic town of Hexham with its pretty Abbey and cobbled streets is only 25 miles away. Head north over the border into Scotland and discover some of the Scottish towns and villages. Nearby, Bellingham has a post office and shops, as well as a golf course, and is only a few miles. Come back after your day out and relax in the tiered landscaped garden backing onto the forest trees. Local pub only a 5-minute walk.
