If guests plan to bring a second vehicle or have visitors then the only option for this is the public car park, which is 220 yards away by foot and which costs £6.50 per day per car to park. This car park will become busy during peak periods, and there is no other public parking in the village.
There is a small, pretty harbour close by with a view northward along the rocky shore to the spectacular ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Explore the 20 miles of Northumberland Heritage Coastline recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its walking trails and cycling routes. The welcoming village of Embleton is only 3 miles north with its wide sweep of golden sandy beach which has won the public poll of ‘Beach of the Year’ in the 2017 BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards. Beadnell Bay is a further 4 miles north and a popular destination for water-sports enthusiasts, including sailing, sea kayaking, wind surfing and scuba diving. Two miles further up the coastline is the traditional fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony, depart regularly from its harbour. The picture perfect village of Bamburgh, snuggled in the shadow of its majestic castle is a further 3 miles north. There are lovely walks along the River Deveron which feeds into Banff Bay having a lovely sandy, dog friendly beach. Banff itself enjoys spectacular sea views, magnificent sunsets, including the possibility of spotting the Northern Lights between October and March, clean air as well as river and sea angling. There is plenty to occupy the visitor in the surrounding area, from golden sandy beaches (the majority of which are dog friendly) stretching from Banff to Nairn, to the numerous castles and historic monuments which abound. There are cycle routes and pony trekking, and make sure you explore the Castle and Whisky Trails further inland, which wend their way through dramatic scenery.
The lively city of Aberdeen, around 1 hour away, is great for retail therapy, cinemas and theatre. Inverness is around 2 hours away, the gateway to Loch Ness which leads down to Fort William.

A short drive brings you to the pretty Wolds town of Beverley offering independent shops, cafés and restaurants. A day at Beverley Races or a round of golf at one of the many local golf courses are sure to keep everyone entertained. The seaside town of Hornsea is on the doorstep and with pony rides, ice-cream and fish and chips is a lovely family destination. With so much to do and see in the surrounding area including the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs, the Nature Reserve at Spurn Point and various stately homes, you are guaranteed a holiday to remember.

Hazelgrove is a characterful holiday home on the south side of Loch Ness in the small village of Inverfarigaig near Foyers. It’s perched in a spectacular spot with views out over the Loch. Hazelgrove is a magical place to spend a week or two with the entire family. The south side of Loch Ness is arguably the more attractive and certainly much quieter. Along General Wade’s 18th century military road from Inverness you will reach the dramatic little village of Inverfarigaig. The rushing waters of the River Farigaig run through the village and there are numerous trails heading off to explore the surrounding forests and lochs. The South Loch Ness Trail is worth exploring and so too is The Trail of the 7 Lochs, both easily accessible from Inverfarigaig.
Beyond the River Farigaig you soon see Hazelgrove’s sign on the left. The cottage is perched up on the left but within a short stroll of the loch side. Walking up to the timber clad Hazelgrove through mature enclosed gardens you’ll be chuffed with your decision to pick this property for your holiday. You rise up to the cottage’s veranda and Loch Ness dominates the view – it’s spectacular! The rocking chair on the veranda is a nice touch as sitting in this spot is truly good for the soul. Into the property and the vestibule leads into the open-plan living/dining space which makes the most of the view of Loch Ness. There’s an incredible stone fireplace framing the woodburning stove. The kitchen is beyond this space and is well-equipped, including an Aga in addition to an electric oven and hob. Out to the back of Hazelgrove next to the kitchen is a utility room with a washing machine, overhead clothes airer and ironing facilities, and a boot room with access to the wrap-around garden. On the other side of the house are the three bedrooms, two doubles and a single, as well as the family bathroom. All views from the bedrooms are of the garden and surrounding forest making them perfect places to rest and recharge. The outside of Hazelgrove is special. Nestled beneath the trees of the Farigaig forest where red squirrels and pine martens can be spotted, the mature garden is fully enclosed for dogs to run around at will. There’s an even better view from the top of the plot to the rear of the property. There’s a patio with garden furniture for visitors to sit out late in the evening to watch the sunset over Loch Ness. It’s a very special place to spend time.
Hazelgrove is also an excellent base from which to explore the Highlands. Foyers is a great village a short way away with a amazing waterfalls and places to eat and drink. Beyond Foyers the south side of Loch Ness with its network of lanes and trails is brilliant to explore. Fort Augustus isn’t far away and Fort William beyond isn’t a long drive. Inverness is less than thirty minutes drive away, so you’re well connected at Hazelgrove. You can get to Ben Nevis, the Isle of Skye, the Black Isle and the Cairngorms National Park easily from Hazelgrove, but many people will simply want to just stay put by the Loch and enjoy keeping an eye out for Nessie!

Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.

The Old Rope Works manufactured hand made rope and twine from 1801 to 1972. A display of its equipment and products is on display in Bewdley museum. The building has been lovingly transformed and restored into a luxurious, spacious, bright, contemporary, cosy home whilst retaining the huge character and quirkiness of the original factory.
