There is a huge variety of wildlife to be seen, including red squirrels, woodpeckers, owls and ospreys, whilst the River Southesk is home to salmon and even freshwater pearls. Within the immediate grounds of the castle there are many paths laid out for guests, leading to follies and fine views on the way to the river and estate lake. Enjoy a barbecue or a game of tennis on the private court, or take a leisurely cycle on one of the many quiet roads which cross through the estate.
    The owner can provide catering packs for the first evening and first morning on request, including a breakfast pack (£10) or a dinner pack (£15).     The interior is sumptuous and welcoming with a cosy wood burner in the open plan lounge/kitchen to greet you in after a busy day out, while all interior wood and the kitchen worktops have been custom made using the timber from an oak tree that fell naturally in the grounds of the property. The bedrooms are spacious with zip and link kingsize beds in the downstairs bedroom, and kingsize sleigh bed in the upper room, accessed via a wrought iron spiral staircase with a glass balustrade and gallery overlooking the lounge.
    The bathroom has a separate shower with a monsoon shower head and a lovely bath to soak in and soothe aching limbs. There are great walks accessible nearby, through Glen Prosen and Clova or magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking, and further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Kirriemuir is just a short drive away and is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of JM Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. Kirriemuir is at the foot of the Angus Glens and on the perimeter of the Cairngorm National Park, and there are plenty of interesting shops and eateries in the town.
