Quietly nestled away in the peaceful village of Caldwell, Tom’s Cottage is the perfect location for guests wanting to explore this beautiful part of North Yorkshire. This terraced holiday bungalow, adjacent to the owners’ home, is perfect for couples looking for a romantic break, with a local pub just a couple of minutes walk away, which is known to serve excellent food and drink. Lovingly decorated and furnished, the property retains many original features and there are plenty of personal touches throughout.
There are many public footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways that criss-cross through the village and into magnificent, unspoilt countryside. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is within easy reach and really must be explored by those guests who like to take in magnificent views across woodland and hills. The popular town of Staindrop is just 6 miles away, where hundreds of deer roam free in their natural habitat of Raby Castle and its grounds. The town is also popular for its tea shops, cafes and small shops selling local produce. The Georgian market town of Richmond, 10 miles away, offers many top-class restaurants, pubs and tea shops that are perfect for a spot of lunch, afternoon tea or a lazy supper. This beautiful and historic town is settled high above the River Swale and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and the chance to browse the weekly market and monthly farmers market, which provide ample chances to enjoy some local produce and crafts.
Visit Barnard Castle and the famous Bowes Museum. Other popular destinations within a 30-minute drive include Darlington, Northallerton, Leyburn, Reeth and Bedale. Tom’s Cottage is the perfect base from which to explore the neighbouring counties too. The cathedral city of Durham is a 40-minute drive away and offers guests the opportunity to visit some of the many popular attractions here including Durham Castle, Durham Cathedral and the River Wear. Eldin Hall Cottages are set in a peaceful area and have been added more recently to the restored old Victorian waterworks. The four cottages have their own enclosed decked patios with garden furniture, and The Gatehouse has its own enclosed private lawned garden. There is also a shared garden with a fantastic play area for the children. The owners, who just 10 minutes away, will be there to greet guests whenever possible, and are available any time to provide information and assistance when it is required.
Situated between Cayton and Cayton Bay, the cottages are an ideal base to visit the east coast, North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. The beach at Cayton Bay is less than a mile away (2 miles by road) and just a little further up the coast is the popular seaside town of Scarborough. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are just a short drive away. The walks along the clifftops are spectacular and form part of the Cleveland Way walk. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs attracts visitors from worldwide and is just a short drive from the cottages. Here you can see puffins, kittiwakes and lots of other migrating seabirds. Not to be missed during your stay (as it’s always voted as one of the top ten cities to visit) is the wonderful city of York which is less than an hour away by car, or the train is direct from Scarborough. The interior plays host to an open plan living area, where you will be delighted with the facilities within the kitchen area, perfect for rustling up an evening meal, before unwinding within the sitting area, complete with a Smart TV as well as a reclining two piece leather suite. Upstairs you have a beautifully presented double bedroom with a separate walk in wardrobe, perfect for storing all of your belongings. The modern shower room is complete with a seated dressing table. Step outside to enjoy an enclosed garden with a patio area, which is the perfect suntrap. Your well behaved small dogs are welcome to join you on your stay, they will be delighted with the nearby country walks and beaches. The area is very dog friendly, many pubs and cafés welcome them. You are just opposite the local shop with a petrol station, which is convenient for any groceries. Further down the road you have a friendly local pub, which serves wonderful home cooked meals.
Explore the wonders of the North York Moors National Park, where you will unearth miles of coast, countryside, nature and breath-taking scenery at every step. Take the heritage steam train on a truly memorable journey over the stunning moorland of the National Park from Pickering to the historical seaside town of Whitby. Visit the stately homes of Castle Howard or Sewerby Hall and Gardens. Or for nature lovers there are many nearby walking and cycling trails to choose from, including Dalby Forest. Alternatively, you can drive out to the coastal town of Scarborough only 10 minutes away, where you can explore the historic castle, wonder around the beautiful Japanese garden or soak up the sun at the beach. Further down the coast you have miles of golden sand stretching from Filey to Hunmanby Gap and Reighton Gap. The iconic light house at Flamborough and the RSPB nature reserve at Bempton Cliffs are well worth a visit where you can see nesting puffins and gannets. Beach 5 miles. Rosebank Cottage is a great choice for couples, with a spacious double bedroom and large shower room with a double walk-in shower. The cottage is the perfect place to come back to after a day of exploring.
Out and about you are perfectly positioned with lots of walking routes to be discovered straight from the village. A short drive will take you into the Yorkshire Dales, or head over to the historic market town of Richmond with its famous castle, riverside walks, quaint cobbled market place, interesting shops, galleries and boutiques. In the opposite direction you will find the beautiful town of Barnard Castle where you can spend the day strolling around the castle ruins and riverside walks, or the towns antique shops and galleries. The famous Bowes Museum is always a huge attraction with many interesting exhibits. For the more energetic the Yorkshire Dales are on your doorstep, whether you head to Wensleydale or Swaledale, with walks and hikes to suit all abilities. Quaker Cottage is situated on the street which runs along the harbour and down to Tate Hill beach, lined with quirky independent shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as traditional pubs. For guests who enjoy meals out you will be spoilt for choice. The house is next to the Quaker Church, which has now been converted into a popular Italian restaurant, originally the chaplain would have resided here with his family.
This quaint property has been lovingly refurnished throughout to provide guests with a welcoming and comfortable stay. On the ground floor there is a deli which is open through the day. Quaker House has its own separate entrance with stairs leading up to the open-plan living area, where you have a sofa in front of an electric fire and TV. Through an archway you have the kitchen which is compact yet well equipped with everything you could wish for, ready to whip up romantic meals to share. There is a fold-down table with two chairs, which is just the right size for couples.
Up on the second floor you have the beautifully presented double bedroom, complete with a dressing table as well as a wardrobe for all of your belongings. The house is completed with a bathroom. There are beamed ceilings throughout adding to the charm of the property, please note that the bathroom ceiling may be low for taller guests.
Immerse yourself in an authentic stay in the centre of Whitby, soaking up the scenery and taking in the fascinating history which has shaped your surroundings. The town is immensely proud of its seafaring heritage, with legends of Vikings, smugglers and heroic life boat rescues. You can savour the freshly caught fish and seafood in a selection of award-winning restaurants. You can also hop on board a boat out of the harbour, for a day trip bouncing over the waves of the bracing North Sea. Take in the fresh sea air with a walk down the pier, watch the sunset and see what inspires so many photographers, artists and writers. Follow the 199 steps to the top of the cliff where you have the iconic abbey, with fabulous views over the town. There’s something about Whitby that draws guests back year after year.

You enter the property into the open plan living/kitchen area on the ground floor. The kitchen is well equipped and well-presented and has all the necessities should you not wish to dine out at the many restaurants and pubs close by. The living area has a comfortable sofa which is great to snuggle up on in front of the Smart TV. Up one flight of stairs you have a good-sized bedroom with plenty of storage space and a plush kingsize bed with luxurious linen guaranteeing a perfect night’s sleep after exploring this stunning area. On the same floor is the stylish en-suite bathroom with contemporary white sanitary ware and large walk-in shower.

The location of Dove Cottage is perfect; Knaresborough has its own fantastic market on a Wednesday and is also famous for Mother Shipton’s Cave and Petrifying Well and boasts an interesting castle, painted by JMW Turner, perched high on the cliff top. Stroll along the riverside promenade, relax with an ice cream or hire a boat and spend an afternoon ’messing about on the river’. If you did want to go further afield there is the stylish spa town of Harrogate just a short 20-minute drive, Harrogate is bursting with fantastic restaurants, pubs, and not to forget the world-famous Betty’s Tearoom which is a must for afternoon tea.
Knaresborough is on the doorstep of the Yorkshire Dales meaning there are plenty of opportunities to explore the stunning countryside, whether it being on foot or by bike, you will always have plenty to see and investigate.

Dating back to 1890, this semi-detached holiday cottage is situated down a quiet lane in one of the prettiest villages in North Yorkshire. A short stroll from the centre, it is ideal for exploring the Moors and the Heritage coastline, as well as the city of York. Nearby are Kirkby Moorside, Helmsley, and Pickering where you can board a steam train and take a journey through countryside. Visit Dalby Forest for cycling, with tracks to suit all ages. Scarborough, 20 miles, has beaches. Whitby is 18 miles. The cottage is in the most perfect location as there is so much within walking distance. Within a 5-minute walk and within the beautiful village there is a variety of local shops, tea rooms, ice cream and cake shops, pubs serving food, as well as a fish and chips and pizza takeaway. In addition there are beautiful walks to be taken from the door, an attractive duck pond and the stream down the road from the cottage, and for younger guests a play park within a few minutes’ walk.

This holiday property is set in the grounds of Maddy House Farm, which dates back to the 15th century. It is surrounded by over 20 acres of its own fields, with breathtaking views across the moorland towards Castleton, which has co-op, tea rooms with part time post office and two pubs. The Heritage Coast of Yorkshire and Whitby are easily accessed, and you can take a leisurely journey through the Esk Valley. Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington can be found a little further afield. A must when visiting this area are the smugglers coves of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay. Visit stately homes such as Duncombe Park, Nunnington Hall and Castle Howard, which are all within easy driving distance. Shop and pub serving food 1 mile.

Tucked away in the peaceful village of Felixkirk, this cosy, dog-friendly holiday cottage adjoins the owner’s home and provides a very comfortable rural retreat on the very edge of the North York Moors National Park, near Thirsk. This brick-built, single-storey cottage is a hidden gem offering a very private stay whilst enjoying an enviable position near to the award-winning, dog-friendly pub and is 5 minutes by car from the nearby market town of Thirsk. It has been completely renovated internally in December 2019 and externally over the summer of 2020.
The cottage offers beautifully presented accommodation for two guests and their pets. There is a small double bedroom with under-bed storage. There is extensive garden space outside the cottage with stunning views, which is also fully fenced to allow your pets to wander in a contained area. Access to a larger field is also provided. Car parking for two cars is available next to the cottage, which is at the end of a private tarmac and gravelled driveway. There is also separate secure storage available for bicycles.
The owners are keen walkers, runners and cyclists and can advise of lovely local and regional routes and provide local dog-friendly walk guides for your use. From the doorstep, there are numerous footpaths and cycling trails and the renowned, traditional, dog-friendly village inn serves local produce just minutes from the cottage. The village is home to a 4x4 driving centre which offers action-packed days with off-road driver training and quad biking, and at Sutton Bank, visitors can take a trial lesson at the Yorkshire Gliding Club and visit the nearby famous White Horse near Kilburn. Thirsk, 3 miles away, is a quaint market town famous for its connections with James Herriot, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Thirsk is also home to a well-known racecourse and 15th century church.
Days out can be enjoyed at Rievaulx Abbey near the wonderful town of Helmsley, as well as Castle Howard and Fountains Abbey. Board the steam train at Pickering to be transported through the stunning North York Moors to the coastal port of Whitby and explore the fishing villages at Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes. The North Yorkshire Moors and also the Yorkshire Dales are easily accessible by car and the historic walled city of York is only 25 miles away, with its iconic minster, exquisite architecture, museums and art galleries, and is not to be missed when visiting Yorkshire.
