With uninterrupted, stunning views and direct access to wonderful walks, Gwar Nant Cottage, renovated by the owners, is a very stylish holiday home lying in an enviable position within Rhandirmwyn, the small Carmarthenshire village with a big reputation. The garden and terrace of the cottage is a great place to relax and watch the varied visiting birds, and for cosy nights, the lounge with wood burning stove is the perfect place to be. This is a beautiful retreat to really get away from it all. The village, which is located in the Upper Tywi Valley boasts an award winning real ale pub with a reputation for great food, so good the Duchess of Cornwall has popped in for a drink as HRH Prince Charles has a country residence nearby.
The local area is steeped in history and tales, one such being the legend of highwayman Twm Siôn Cati, who hid out in caves near the village. The county of Carmarthenshire, known as ’The Garden of Wales’ has become a big draw for walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of the outdoors and is the largest county in southern Wales, stretching from Carmarthen Bay in the south to the western Brecon Beacons and Cambrian Mountains in the north. It offers rich landscapes, gardens, ancient castles, wildlife and sandy beaches as well as market towns brimming with local produce, chic shopping and eateries.
Llandeilo is one such town, less than 30 minutes drive away and the market town of Llandovery is just 10 minutes drive. Other places of interest nearby include National Trust Dolaucothi Goldmines (tours available) and the lakes of Llyn Brianne and Llyn-y-Fan Fach, the lake that gave rise to the Arthurian legend of the Lady of the Lake. These purpose-built holiday cottages (refs 24574, 27255 and 27257) have been constructed or converted from the original farmhouse buildings and an old Welsh longhouse. Welsh craftsmanship at its best - only the finest local tradesmen and materials have been used for the conversion of these buildings. They are situated in an elevated position on the edge of Broadlay near Ferryside on the old pilgrim road to St David’s Cathedral.

There is generous amenity space, dog walking paths and a country adventure play area for small, accompanied children. The complex is on the local bus route which connects to Carmarthen via the hotel and Ferryside railway station. In the opposite direction, Kidwelly and Swansea are en route. Ferryside is uncommercialised, peaceful and quiet; the ideal getaway for a perfect weekend (or longer) break. It is also, due to its proximity to Carmarthen, Llanelli and other centres, an ideal corporate meeting place. Kidwelly, with its Norman castle, industrial heritage museum, Pembrey Country Park and Motorsport Centre, within approximately 10 minutes’ travelling time.

The National Botanical Gardens, Laugharne (famous for Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse) and many Pembrokeshire attractions are about half an hour’s drive. There are many places to visit including Dylan Thomas’ cottage, where he spent the last years of his life. The Millennium Coastal Cycle Path, part of the national cycle path network, meanders through approximately 20 miles of local coastline, passing through local areas of interest. Places to visit include Kidwelly Castle, the Penclawydd Wildfowl Centre, and the Loughor Estuary with views of the Mumbles Peninsula south of Swansea. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

This 18th century detached holiday cottage, at the end of a farm drive, is set in an elevated position with far reaching countryside views, between Llanelli and Carmarthen. Traditionally furnished, the cottage retains lots of character with exposed beams and tiled floors. As well as the living/dining area there is a parlour with ornate fireplace, piano and Welsh dresser, whilst the breakfast room has a decorative Rayburn, leading to a small but well equipped kitchen. There is a walking and cycling path within 0.5 miles and an abundance of activities nearby. Places of interest include Kidwelly Castle, Pembrey Country Park, Cefn Sidan beach, National Botanic Gardens, Ffos Las Racecourse (2 miles), all within easy driving distance, or drive to the Gower Peninsula, Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park and the delightful Pembrokeshire coastline. Mill Cottage was a working water mill; the mill race running into the babbling stream flowing through the beautiful grounds out to the River Taff and into the Carmarthen Bay. These two Welsh stone barns, The Granary and Mill Cottage, have been lovingly restored and offer an idyllic holiday location. They have been finished to a very good standard throughout and have been thoughtfully furnished. On the ground floor is an open plan living space which is superb for social and family gatherings. Take in the coastal air outside in the shared lawns and garden - the perfect spot to dine al fresco and enjoy a delicious meal cooked on the BBQ.
Take a trip into nearby Llansteffan for freshly brewed coffee or travel back in time with a visit to Llansteffan Castle which is steeped in history, and boasts commanding views across the estuary of the River Towy and out towards the Gower Peninsula. Travelling west, a trip to Laugharne is a must. Here you can visit the house and writing shed of famous poet Dylan Thomas, or stop for a refreshing drink and meal at one of the local pubs he would often frequent. Further along this unique coastline is the village of Pendine, which boasts 7 miles of beautiful sandy beach where the land speed record was set in the famous car, Babs. The car was excavated from the Pendine Sands and can be seen today at the Museum of Speed in the town.
