For sports enthusiasts, visitors can enjoy playing at the Jack Nicklaus golf course, watch live sport at the Llanelli Scarlets’ rugby stadium or visit Ffos Las Racecourse. Come and enjoy the delights of Tynval, nestled on the edge of the rural hamlet of Bronwydd Arms near the market town of Carmarthen. This beautiful, single-storey barn conversion was once the milking parlour and part of the once busy Cwmgwili Mill Farm, which is steeped in history and dates back to the 1600’s. The mill, which is on the side of the farmhouse, stopped working in the 1950’s. The mill first produced flour and then was converted into a woollen mill which produced blankets for the war. The farm was built by the owners of Cwmgwili mansion, which is a short walk up the hill, and served as the source of food for the estate owners many years ago. The owners have meticulously restored Tynval and retained all the quirks and charm throughout, with vaulted ceilings, beams, exposed stone walls and solid teak flooring offering a superb barn for your family to enjoy.
Here at TynVal we are trying to be energy self-sufficient to reduce our carbon foot-print, you will notice we have solar panels on the roof which we can produce up to 7kwh and we can store 10kwh with our battery storage,every thing within the cottage is powered by electric so during the summer months we don’t need to take any energy from the grid, so we would ask guests kindly if they would use the energy we produce wisely.
It is just a 5-minute drive from the market town of Carmarthen and 15 minutes from the beautiful seaside village of Llansteffan, where the famous salmon river, the Towy, joins Carmarthen Bay. Here you can also visit the ruined castle, dating back to the early 12th-century, along with the Iron Age earthworks still visible to this day and which once controlled an important river crossing of the Towy. Enjoy a walk to discover this castle and its epic views overlooking the sand flats and the Towy river mouth.
Tynval has been finished to a very good standard and has been thoughtfully presented throughout, complete with a spacious, light and airy living/dining room with original beams and focal wood burner for a cosy evening in with a glass of wine. This room leads onto the sun room which overlooks the enclosed lawned garden, with views across the Carmarthenshire countryside. The well-equipped country kitchen is perfect for cooking that celebratory meal or to enjoy a coffee. Both bedrooms boast beams, exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings, and have been lovingly furnished to provide the perfect nights sleep. On an evening, enjoy dining al fresco with a barbecue and enjoy the covered entertaining area with a G&T whilst the children play on the lawn.
Carmarthen has everything on offer with many restaurants specializing in home cooked organic produce, craft shops, galleries, a cinema and traditional markets. Nearby is the Gwili Steam railway and the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, which is home to the largest span glass house in Europe. Aberglasney, a few minutes away, is is said to be one of the finest gardens in Wales and surrounds a restored Grade II listed mansion which is perfect for cream teas whilst enjoying the scenery.
Travelling west is the historic township of Laugharne, the hometown of the famous poet Dylan Thomas, here you can view his writing shed, his former home and enjoy some fine locally brewed ales in his favourite pub.

This 18th century detached holiday cottage, at the end of a farm drive, is set in an elevated position with far reaching countryside views, between Llanelli and Carmarthen. Traditionally furnished, the cottage retains lots of character with exposed beams and tiled floors. As well as the living/dining area there is a parlour with ornate fireplace, piano and Welsh dresser, whilst the breakfast room has a decorative Rayburn, leading to a small but well equipped kitchen. There is a walking and cycling path within 0.5 miles and an abundance of activities nearby. Places of interest include Kidwelly Castle, Pembrey Country Park, Cefn Sidan beach, National Botanic Gardens, Ffos Las Racecourse (2 miles), all within easy driving distance, or drive to the Gower Peninsula, Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park and the delightful Pembrokeshire coastline. Violet Cottage (ref 30675) and The Stables (ref 30674) are semi-detached and they both date back to the 18th century and are positioned on the edge of an 8-acre small holding on the outskirts of the quaint village of Llannon. Each cottage has been finished to a good standard with comfortable furnishings and spacious living areas, with Violet Cottage (ref 30675) boasting a cosy woodburner, perfect for unwinding after a busy day’s exploration. Guests are welcome to enjoy the 8 acres of tranquil shared grounds which features a glistening lake, home to some Canadian geese that roam freely, or sit back and relax in the summer house and enjoy uninterrupted views of the rugged mountains. The area itself has so much to offer, including fantastic walks along the scenic Pembrey Country Park with 8 miles of golden sands at Cefn Sidan, Pembrey must be the only place in Europe where visitors can sunbathe, swim and hunt for shipwrecks on the beaches, then experience the thrill of a toboggan run or race down the park’s 130m dry ski slope. Further along the coast, is the WWT Llanelli Wetlands Centre. This 450-acre wildlife haven is home to more than 600 bird species that fly in from all over the globe. Explore the nearby attractions of National Botanical Gardens of Wales and Aberglasney, or take a step back in time and learn the rich history behind the medieval times and visit the majestic castles of Kidwelly, Carreg Cennen and Dinefwr, which are nestled amongst a tranquil 800-acre park with wild fellow deer running free. A trip to Carmarthenshire is not complete without a visit to Laugharne, which was formerly home to famous welsh poet Dylan Thomas, whom described the charming coastal village as ‘the strangest town in Wales’. Mill Cottage was a working water mill; the mill race running into the babbling stream flowing through the beautiful grounds out to the River Taff and into the Carmarthen Bay. These two Welsh stone barns, The Granary and Mill Cottage, have been lovingly restored and offer an idyllic holiday location. They have been finished to a very good standard throughout and have been thoughtfully furnished. On the ground floor is an open plan living space which is superb for social and family gatherings. Take in the coastal air outside in the shared lawns and garden - the perfect spot to dine al fresco and enjoy a delicious meal cooked on the BBQ.
Take a trip into nearby Llansteffan for freshly brewed coffee or travel back in time with a visit to Llansteffan Castle which is steeped in history, and boasts commanding views across the estuary of the River Towy and out towards the Gower Peninsula. Travelling west, a trip to Laugharne is a must. Here you can visit the house and writing shed of famous poet Dylan Thomas, or stop for a refreshing drink and meal at one of the local pubs he would often frequent. Further along this unique coastline is the village of Pendine, which boasts 7 miles of beautiful sandy beach where the land speed record was set in the famous car, Babs. The car was excavated from the Pendine Sands and can be seen today at the Museum of Speed in the town. Within a 40-minute drive you can visit Carmarthen, the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, the famous walled seaside town of Tenby, or enjoy a day out at Wales’ largest theme park, Oakwood. Situated across the yard from the owner’s home, on a small working farm, this converted detached cow barn offers a contemporary interior oozing with country charm. The kind owners offer a laundry service, and the option for breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meals can be provided at an additional cost (arranged direct with the owner). Limestone flooring and the natural pink hues of the exposed stonework give a light and airy feel throughout the property. The sleek kitchen and bathroom, both with underfloor heating, and the tastefully decorated bedrooms complete the theme. French doors lead out on to the patio and an unfenced stream passes through the enclosed garden to the rear of the property. Nestled up on the Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons National Park, this area is a nature lover’s paradise, with footpaths and bridleways giving direct access to the Black Mountain from the farm.
Up above the village of Llanddeusant sits the famous lake known as Llyn y Fan. This beautiful lake is a popular destination for walkers as it boasts spectacular views and a tranquil, peaceful atmosphere. Myths about The Lady of the Lake and the Physicians of Myddfai come from ancient times, and some people believe that the Arthurian legend of the Lady of the Lake and Excalibur stem from here.
If you’re a romantic star gazer then the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Wales, situated in the Brecon Beacons, is perfect for you. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way, major constellations, bright nebulas and even meteor showers. It’s enough to make anyone starry-eyed.
Less than half an hour’s drive will bring you to the colourful, picturesque town of Llandeilo, scattered with an array of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. It’s a delightful place to spend a few hours. Throughout the year you can watch the graceful red kite swoop down for food provided by the Red Kite Feeding Station also in Llanddeusant.
Whether you want to explore the mountains or potter around the farm with its 20 acres of ancient woodland and river walks, or wander through the pastures where sheep and cattle graze, Bramble Cottage is the perfect place to relax. Take a trip to Llanstephan and enjoy afternoon tea in the mansion house or walk on the sandy beach and then visit the castle. Only 15 minutes away is Laugharne, home of Dylan Thomas, again with a beautiful sandy beach and castle with a tearoom. There is also Pembrey Country Park or Heatherton and Oakwood theme parks to visit or for younger guests (and parents!) visit Folly Farm with lambs, all things fluffy and even tigers and giraffes. A short drive away is Skanda Vale a multi faith ashram which welcomes 90,000 pilgrims a year for those who need a peaceful retreat to stay whilst visiting the temples. With abundant medieval castles and prehistoric sites, including the impressive reconstructed iron age fort of Castell Henllys, quiet market towns and theme parks to amuse the children, this would be hard to beat as a holiday venue.
