Opposite the majestic village church, this Grade II listed building is thought to have been constructed in the mid to late 19th century. It is part of a virtually intact and coherent group of houses at the centre of the pretty and tranquil village of Myddfai. It was originally the village post office and shop, as the name suggests, and has been in the owner’s family since 1921. The owner’s grandfather (who was the postmaster) and great grandfather were also the village blacksmiths, and the Old Smithy can still be seen in the village, identified by a horseshoe over the door.
The Old Post Office shop front and doorway are still there today and inside the house, some of the shop shelving is still in use on the wall as a bookcase. The shop door has beautiful stained glass panels that create patterns on the walls when the evening sunlight passes through it. Outside, the small post box is still in use and is set within the wall of the house. The post office was finally closed in 1988, when the owner’s grandmother was no longer well enough to run it, but it has remained a cherished and charming family house and is now available for holidaymakers to enjoy and appreciate. Inside this cosy cottage there is an electric wood burner effect fire in the living room for homely nights, or the study offers the perfect place to sit and read or families may enjoy using the games console. The attractive sun room is the place to enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Sitting here you can take in the spectacular views of the rolling countryside beyond the large enclosed lawned garden and patio. It is also the first International Dark-Sky reserve in Wales. On a clear night in the Brecon Beacons, you can see the Milky Way, major constellations, bright nebulas and even meteor showers; enough to make anyone starry eyed. During the 13th century, Myddfai was frequented by physicians and medicinal remedies were created. Over the years, the stories of the Physicians of Myddfai have become bound up with the legend of Llyn y Fan Fach – the Lady of the Lake. You can learn all about this at the Myddfai Visitor Centre, which is situated just a few yards from The Old Post Office. Here you will also find a fascinating craft shop and a lovely café; the perfect place to relax whilst you learn about the legends.
Just 3 miles away you will discover the ancient Carmarthenshire market town of Llandovery, with a wider selection of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as the Heritage Centre giving an insight into the lives of the drovers who passed through the town. Visit the ruins of the 13th century Carreg Cennen Castle or the Red Kite Feeding Station at Llanddeusant, where daily feeding of these amazing birds takes place in the summer. The market town of Llandeilo is not too far away and here you will discover lots of independent boutique shops and eateries; the town is fast gaining a reputation as a foodies paradise. Come and enjoy all that Woodlands has to offer, nestled on the edge of the historic township of Laugharne within a wooded valley and just off the ’Grist’, the central hub of this truly charming town. It really does offer the perfect base to explore, enjoy a morning stroll with a coffee and a good book, and take a seat on the banks of the River Taf and take in the picture postcard views with Laugharne Castle, Dylan’s Boat House and Ferryside all in view. Laugharne was made famous by the poet Dylan Thomas, and to this day you can visit the Boat House which was once Dylan’s home, where he lived with his family, and which is now a museum, along with his writing shed, a must to visit. Within the town enjoy rambling around the Georgian townhouses and take in some of the fresh local produce and craft ales at some of fantastic eateries.

A 5-minute drive away is the seaside resort of Pendine which is perfect for long walks, building sandcastles and exploring rook pools with your family. This 7 mile long beach is one of longest in West Wales, and where Malcolm Campbell set the world land speed record five times, hence its perfect for land sailing and kite buggying, or for a little relaxation try some fishing. The walled town of Tenby and Saundersfoot are only 30/40 minutes away and perfect for days out, along with Oakwood, Wales’s largest theme park, and Folly Farm Zoo. Beach 5 miles. Mill Cottage was a working water mill; the mill race running into the babbling stream flowing through the beautiful grounds out to the River Taff and into the Carmarthen Bay. These two Welsh stone barns, The Granary and Mill Cottage, have been lovingly restored and offer an idyllic holiday location. They have been finished to a very good standard throughout and have been thoughtfully furnished. On the ground floor is an open plan living space which is superb for social and family gatherings. Take in the coastal air outside in the shared lawns and garden - the perfect spot to dine al fresco and enjoy a delicious meal cooked on the BBQ.
Take a trip into nearby Llansteffan for freshly brewed coffee or travel back in time with a visit to Llansteffan Castle which is steeped in history, and boasts commanding views across the estuary of the River Towy and out towards the Gower Peninsula. Travelling west, a trip to Laugharne is a must. Here you can visit the house and writing shed of famous poet Dylan Thomas, or stop for a refreshing drink and meal at one of the local pubs he would often frequent. Further along this unique coastline is the village of Pendine, which boasts 7 miles of beautiful sandy beach where the land speed record was set in the famous car, Babs. The car was excavated from the Pendine Sands and can be seen today at the Museum of Speed in the town. Within a 40-minute drive you can visit Carmarthen, the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, the famous walled seaside town of Tenby, or enjoy a day out at Wales’ largest theme park, Oakwood. Moss Cottage is situated in the heart of the coastal town of Burry Port, on the doorstep of the Millennium Coastal footpath that meanders through the stunning scenery of Llanelli through to the historic town of Kidwelly. Lovingly restored, this terraced cottage has retained all of the property’s original charm and character, with an open plan living/dining room complete with a focal inglenook fireplace and a great sociable kitchen/breakfast room. On the first floor, the character continues with original stripped back floor boards and a restored feature fireplace within the master bedroom. The two double bedrooms also boast sea views. Make the most of the balmy summer days on the enclosed courtyard, while a few steps further away there is a lawned garden to enjoy. There is an in house gallery which supports local artists, pictures can be purchased from the owner.
