It is framed by the Cambrian Mountains, known as the backbone of Wales, and is so rich in wildlife, legends and fascinating landscapes. Look out for birds of prey such as red kites and buzzards soaring high above, and dolphins or seals in the waters. Drive along the Plynlimon Mountains, through the Tywi Forest or visit the impressive Abergwesyn Pass, and marvel at the solitude.

For a truly authentic Welsh family holiday experience, this is the area to be. The locals are justifiably proud of this region with its rich local folklore which tells of tricking the devil, mermaids, shipwrecked kings and princesses, and even an explanation of why gulls sound as if they’re crying. The little gems of Georgian Aberaeron, historic Cardigan, salty New Quay, traditional Tregaron and Lampeter are waiting to be explored. To the south, the coves of Mwnt, Cwmtydu, Penbryn, Tresaith – which resemble illustrations from books about pirates, are all within easy reach. To the north, around Aberystwyth and Borth, there are vast stretches of sand. Food plays a big part in the experience of Ceredigion, and a wide choice is to be found in the shops, restaurants and cafés offering regional products and ingredients such as the world beating Teifi Valley cheeses, the ubiquitous Welsh cakes, bara brith and of course, some spectacularly good seafood from the coast.

No visit to the area would be complete without a ride on the steam railway. From the coast at Aberystwyth, watch the scenery change whilst travelling through ancient woodland and rugged mountain scenery, with the line clinging to the hillside to reach Devil’s Bridge, home of the famous Mynach Falls and Devil’s Punchbowl. Travel south to the traditional market town of Cardigan, where the beautifully restored castle is not to be missed with 900 years of history to uncover. Enjoy a short walk into the village to discover the traditional Welsh pub or a freshly brewed coffee in the village café. There’s so much to explore in Cardigan Bay but if you want a day out to Pembrokeshire you can reach the well-known family attractions of Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo within an hour’s drive. Two miles from Llangrannog’s sandy beaches, on the cleanest coast in Britain, this comfortable traditionally furnished farmhouse is set in its own gardens surrounded by unspoilt pastureland. Llangrannog offers a small slipway, a village shop, cafes and a pub/restaurant, along with a dry ski slope, whilst the popular harbour town of New Quay has sailing and fishing trips.
The market town of Cardigan has an indoor swimming pool, a sports centre, a skateboard park, art galleries and a theatre/cinema complex. There are two coastal golf courses nearby. A must for every visitor is a boat trip from the harbour round the bay for a closer encounter with the seals and dolphins that this area is famous for.
If you can tear yourself away from New Quay, explore the other things that the 60 miles of the Ceredigion coastline has to offer. There’s the coastal path itself, and no shortage of beaches either. Try the secluded National Trust cove of Cwmtydu, where seal pups can often be seen during the autumn months. A visit to New Quay Honey Farm is a must, with its tea rooms and shop selling honey and beeswax. The colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron is nearby and is worth a visit, as is the National Trust property of Llanerchaeron. Visit the coastal towns of Aberystwyth or Cardigan, both an easy drive away, and venture inland to the market town of Lampeter. The Tipis are situated on the owner’s 16-acre farmland, with sea views and beautiful meadows, forestry and waterfalls all on-site and within walking distance from the cottage – there are even pet lambs in the field. This is an ideal break away for a family or friends to enjoy this peaceful location, located just 2 miles from the fabulous quirky harbour towns of Aberaeron. Aberaeron retains its Georgian character with elegant brightly painted town houses and with a small harbour for yachts and fishing boats. Aberaeron is becoming something of a foodie pleasure. Stroll around the harbour along Quay Parade and enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the award-winning restaurants. The independent shops and craft centres are also a big hit amongst our guests. The town is right on the Wales Coast Path and The Coastal Way.
Ceredigion’s coast is also well-known for wildlife including the famous Cardigan Bay bottlenose dolphin pods, there are boat trips to explore the Ceredigion Marine Heritage Coast and the town features a Seafood Festival in July. From chilling out on the beach or enjoying a hearty harbour meal after a train ride Aberystwyth and Newquay which are a short drive offer traditional Welsh pubs, stylish restaurants and sandy beaches, where dolphins and porpoises are often spotted on a clear day. To the north are the famous slopes of Snowdon, offering breath-taking views with abundance of walks amidst the tumbling waterfalls, shimmering lakes with buzzards and peregrine falcons soaring high. The area is a natural playground for ramblers, mountain bikers and climbers alike.
