Charlestown, with its Georgian architecture and tall ships, the seafaring town of Fowey, and Mevagissey with its working harbour, are all easily reached. The south coast has many National Trust houses and sub-tropical gardens such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. This pretty little cottage sits in the owners’ beautifully maintained garden, deep in the Cornish countryside and provides an ideal base while visiting many areas of Cornwall. Although nearer the tranquil south coast, the dramatic north coast, with its excellent surfing beaches, is easily reached. The Little House is just yards from the ‘Mineral Tramways Trail’, one of Cornwall’s many cycle networks that links the north coast at Portreath to the South coast near Falmouth. It is popular with walkers, cyclists, horse riders and sightseers as it passes through a rich mining heritage area, dotted with old mine archaeology. A cycle hire centre, shop and café are approximately 1 mile from the front door, right on the trail itself. The world famous Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Lizard Peninsula, which is the location of Lizard Point and the most southerly point of the country, are all easily accessible from the property. The ancient seafaring town of Falmouth is approx 6 miles away, and provides an excellent centre for many activities such as sailing, windsurfing, pleasure trips and diving. Other amenities available locally are fine sandy beaches, shopping, cinema, restaurants and Pendennis Castle, perched high on Pendennis Point. Falmouth is also home to the National Maritime Museum, two yacht marinas and numerous National Trust gardens. A ferry to the Roseland Peninsula and a sightseeing trip along the River Fal to Truro are also available from one of the town quays. Truro is the capital city of Cornwall and less than 5 miles away, with excellent shopping in the cobbled streets, fine dining in its many restaurants, bistros and cafés, a theatre and museum. The Lily Pad is a wonderful and welcoming holiday home, just a few miles from the dramatic Seven Bays of North Cornwall, famed for its stunning beaches, cliffs, and coves. Once inside you are greeted with a bright and airy, open-plan living space with relaxing sofas to sink into, a cosy wood burner (with ‘starter pack’ provided) for those cooler evenings, and attractive floor and wall art unique to the property and evocative of Cornwall and its heritage. You will find lovingly restored furniture and repurposed features in the side tables and display units, turning function into fun! Lead on to the dining area, complete with impressive handmade wooden dining table and seating for ten guests, looking out onto the garden. The wall here is adorned with a fantastic map of the county, a further reminder of the wonders of this amazing region and its many attractions and places to explore! The adjoining kitchen has a small breakfast bar area and plenty of workspace and equipment for preparing breakfast or your evening meal.

There are five bedrooms all on one level, where the unique and upcycled theme continues, with solid pine furniture given a fresh modern look. A roomy family bathroom includes a bath, while a second bathroom features a walk-in shower.

Outside, an excellent decking area with table, chairs and barbecue offers the ideal space to enjoy morning coffee or evening meal al fresco. There is even a firepit!

You are spoilt for a choice of beaches here; Harlyn Bay Beach, just 3 miles away, offers a broad expanse of golden sand stretching far before you. Trevose Headland offers spectacular vistas, whilst further beaches at Treyarnon Bay and beautiful Porthcothan Beach are just a short drive away, with rock pools for all ages to explore! Visit Padstow, with its fabulous seafood restaurants, busy quayside and narrow streets, or vibrant Newquay, with its plethora of vibrant bars and restaurants, and scintillating surfing and water sports activities.

Away from the coast, Camel Valley Theme Park, the world-renowned Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan all offer fun days out, whilst Bodmin Moor is an atmospheric place, with mysterious rock formations and views as far as the eye can see. Everybody can gather around the large dining table and tuck into a delicious home-cooked meal, before relaxing beside the cosy wood burner or enjoying a game of pool after dinner. Sandpipers is a pretty, upside-down holiday cottage adjoining the owner’s farmhouse and is one of three characterful cottages at this location. There are two cosy bedrooms downstairs and a light and modern open plan kitchen/living space upstairs. There is a large TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs, books and games to keep you entertained or simply curl up with a book and unwind on the comfy leather sofas. With its own private garden, you can enjoy a lazy breakfast while making plans for the day ahead, and you are welcome to use the owner’s fields for games or exercise.

Holsworthy is a historic market town just 2½ miles away with a good selection of local shops, a supermarket, amenities, a golf club and an indoor swimming pool and leisure centre. The village of Pyworthy, with its popular village inn and restaurant, is just ½ mile away. Bude is nearby with its historic castle, vibrant town centre and great range of good restaurants and bars and is perfect for a day out. While water sport enthusiasts can try their hand on the surf at one of the fabulous beaches. There is a range of water sports and fishing available at the nearby Tamar Lakes, as well as coastal and country walking, golf, surfing, horse riding, cycling on the National Cycle Route which passes by the cottage, or simply relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. There is something for everyone in this stunning location. With pretty fishing villages and spectacular beaches and coves dotted all along this coastline from Padstow, Tintagel, Crackington Haven and Bude in Cornwall to Westward Ho!, Clovelly and Instow in Devon, and for a great day out, the famous Eden Project is within easy reach. Fairview (CWC561946) is a reverse level, semi-detached cottage with an entrance on the first floor and a large living/dining room, a cosy wood-burning stove, there is a west-facing conservatory down a couple of steps with sofa and access to a small private garden. A family bedroom on the first floor provides a level living area for those with a mobility issue. On the ground floor are further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Barn Cottage (CWC562587) is also a reverse level, semi-detached cottage with two bedrooms on the ground floor.
This is a real farm experience, fresh free-range eggs are available from the owners, and there are a number of walks across the delightful 150 acres. This is a dog-friendly property however please note that it is a working Beef and Sheep farm, so dogs must be kept under control.
Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland which has a magnificent church with an amazing painted ceiling and one of the tallest towers in England. Hartland Quay has a hotel and Wreckers Bar as the coast here is littered with wrecks and is a lovely spot for some lunch. Also well worth a visit is the world-famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400’ high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port. Beach 2 miles.
