Penzance, EnglandOnly a 250 yard walk from the beautiful sandy beach of Whitesand Bay, this row of furnished holiday properties commands magnificent views from the top of the high dunes over the bay and Sennen Cove. On a quiet lane leading only to the cliffs, they have been very tastefully converted from a spacious Victorian house and are stunningly set in several acres of shared natural grounds; home to a wonderful variety of wildlife which can easily be seen from the steep, private beach path and the cottages themselves. Free beach gear is available to borrow (surfboards, buckets and spades, windbreaks, plus some wetsuits) and there is private storage for visitors’ own equipment. The beach at Whitesand is magnificent and offers a splendid mile of sand which has been awarded Blue Flag status and is excellent for surfing (lifeguards operate throughout the summer). There is a ban on dogs from 1st May to 30th September but dogs are permitted year round on nearby Gwenver Beach, the next beach along the coast path. Sennen Cove, ½ mile, is a picturesque little fishing village looking out over the bay. It offers shops, pub, restaurants, even a lifeboat station, all within walking distance. There are some beautiful walks along the coast towards Cape Cornwall in one direction, and beyond Land’s End in the other.
The famous outdoor Minack Theatre is only 3 miles away and Penzance, 7 miles, boasts a mainline station, shops, inns, swimming-pool, sailing and tennis. There is a golf course at St Just, 4 miles, and facilities for squash and badminton are available locally. Picturesque St Ives (a renowned haunt of artists) is 15 miles away along the spectacular north coast. Camelford, EnglandThis spacious, well-appointed and privately situated detached bungalow is located in the grounds of the caravan club site near Tintagel. The living room is cosy with an electric ‘wood burner’ and TV, whilst the well-equipped kitchen is open plan with the dining area. There are four comfortable bedrooms, two with kingsize beds, one of which has an en-suite shower room, one with twin beds and one with a bunk bed. A family bathroom completes the picture.

Tintagel is 4 miles away with King Arthur’s castle clinging to the cliff top. The quaint fishing villages of Padstow, famous for TV chef Rick Stein’s restaurant, Boscastle and Port Isaac are a must. Port Isaac is also famously known as Portwenn, thanks to the long running TV series ‘Doc Martin’.
The nearby South-West Coastal Path passes through some of the most dramatic scenery of its route.
Away from the coast, explore the beauty of Bodmin Moor, a vast moorland peppered with fascinating granite Tors. The Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway chugs along for 6 miles and back and will delight children of all ages including steam train enthusiasts.
Alternatively the disused railway track now known as the Camel Trail cycle and footpath is within easy reach and stretches for 18 miles from Padstow to Wenford Bridge via Wadebridge and Bodmin. Attached to Manor Cottage (GAX) but completely self-contained, it enjoys a picturesque setting on the green, in the peaceful Cornish hamlet of West Pentire – only 300 yards down a cliff path from acres of clean golden sand (see Manor Cottage GAX). Children and adults alike can sample the delights of rock pool fishing, exploring caves or surfing. By hiring a pony, it is possible to ride cross-country to the beaches of Porth Joke and Holywell, without the need to cross any roads.
Set in the heart of National Trust land, the property is surrounded by magnificent walking country, and is an ideal base from which to explore Cornwall’s splendid countryside and unique history as well as its magnificent coastline. The immediate area is renowned for its superb sandy surfing beaches, punctuated by craggy headlands. Perranporth (named after the patron saint of tin miners) is 10 miles to the south, famous for its drifting sands which have twice buried the church. Lifeguards patrol the wide sandy beach in summer, and surf boards and wet suits can be hired by the day. Further along is St Agnes with its superb coastal views, while to the south lies Truro, the unofficial capital of Cornwall, offering good shops and restaurants, a splendid cathedral and The Royal Cornwall Museum with extensive displays of the county.
The historic and family friendly Bowgie Inn is adjacent and offers a wide selection of food as well as local beers and ciders, and sports fans can enjoy Sky coverage. A general store (open in season) can be found nearby, and Crantock village and its shops are only 1 mile away. The lively resort of Newquay, with its cliffs honeycombed by numerous caves, is 5 miles across the estuary to the north.
