This detached, timber lodge is situated on a quiet, gated site, home to The Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, and close to Padstow and Newquay. Hen Harrier Lodge, with its stunning interior design, provides comfortable and stylish accommodation from which to enjoy this beautiful county and coastline. Guests can visit the Cornish Bird of Prey Centre for a total charge of £10 for up to 6 people for as many visits as you would like during a 7 day stay. The lodge is surrounded by fishing lakes and woodland walks for you to take advantage of the Cornish countryside right on your doorstep. The garden is the perfect place for children and dogs to play all day, fully enclosed with artificial grass and large decked barbecue and hot tub areas fully equipped with outdoor armchairs, dining furniture and sun loungers.
Padstow, home to the foodie empire of Rick Stein, the celebrated TV chef, has narrow cobbled lanes that meander around this ancient fishing village and gravitate towards the working fishing harbour. Get a pasty or an ice cream and watch the boats come and go with the days catch. Padstow sits at the mouth of the Camel Estuary and you can hire bikes in the town and cycle along the flat multi-use trail that hugs the shoreline as it heads into the countryside towards the market town of Wadebridge, full of craft and gift shops and bakeries.
The coastline nearby is dotted with secluded sandy coves and fishing villages which make a stunning backdrop to the South West Coast Path, which is a must if you enjoy walking and great views. Newquay, renowned for surf culture across its 11 beaches, is also easily reached with its own zoo, tennis club, cinema, ample bars, restaurants, cafés and coffee shops. Port Isaac, Polzeath and Rock are all nearby and easily reached with many golf clubs in the region including The Point, St Enodoc and Merlin, enabling you to play at many clubs through the week. The south coast of Cornwall is also easily accessible and offers a completely different experience of Cornwall with tropical gardens and its own climate. This stunning lodge lies just minutes from the delightful towns of Padstow and Newquay, and the amazing coastline of North Cornwall. There is a private hot tub to enjoy, with extended decking areas, as well as sun loungers and outdoor easy chairs. Guests are able to take advantage of entrance to the bird of prey centre at a charge of £10, and The Retallack Resort, literally across the road, has a spa and excellent facilities to keep the children amused, including water skiing and a surf simulator. Ideal for a family holiday, the lodge is also baby friendly with a travel cot, mattress and high chair provided (please bring your own cot bedding), and the owners have also provided a selection of family games.
A visit to Padstow, with its Michelin starred restaurants, cafés, local shops and traditional pubs, is an absolute must. It makes a great day out for all whilst meandering around the lanes that gravitate to the quaint working harbour where you can watch the day boats depart. Rick Stein has a large presence in the town with delis, a chip shop and cookery school. Padstow sits at the mouth of the Camel Estuary, a tidal river which is home to sea life and wading birds, and has its very own multi-use trail that hugs the shoreline as its drifts inland. There are many excellent bike hire shops right on the quay, and you can cycle inland to the pretty market town of Wadebridge. Or if you are feeling energetic, you can cycle all the way to Bodmin deep within the Cornish countryside, with the reward of fish and chips on the quayside and a pint of local ale from the nearby Brewery at Rock! Alternatively you can catch the ferry from Padstow across the mouth of the estuary to the little village of Rock and hire a stand-up paddle board or sailing dinghy, or walk the coastal path around Daymer Bay and on to Polzeath, which is a great spot for surfing.
Newquay, the county’s capital for surf culture, boasts many charming beaches which offer something for everyone. You can learn to surf at one of the many schools, or just laze away the day on one of the quieter more family friendly beaches such as Porth or the stunning Lusty Glaze, which has a great beachside pizzeria and rum bar with live music on most nights during the summer. This is a favourite with the locals and is a great place to watch the sun set.
Watergate Bay just minutes from the lodge, has a beach with a golden stretch of sand with cafés and pubs with views to die for. Truro, the county capital, as well as Fowey, Port Isaac and St Ives, are all easily reached for days out if you can bring yourself to leave this beautiful part of Cornwall. This area of Cornwall is well known for its golf, and Eagle Owl Lodge is within reach of at least five great courses ranging from The Point at Polzeath, St Enedoc, Trevose and Lanhydrock. Polean Farm Cottages are located in Cornwall, down green lanes, off the Looe to Polperro road, just outside the village of Pelynt. The farm is set amongst rolling farmland and is less than 2 miles from the sea. All of the cottages are full of character and provide a cosy home-from-home. They have all been converted from original farm buildings which date back to the 18th century.
The Old Farmhouse (ref UK12895) is a historical, semi-detached farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated and is perfect for a large family get together or for two families to holiday together.
Little Owls Cottage (ref UK12896) is a detached barn named after the owls that still live in the nesting boxes around the building which can sometimes be heard at night. It is set in its own garden with glorious views across the farm and towards the village of Pelynt.
Rosebud Cottage (ref UK12897) and Shires Rest (ref UK12899) are pleasant, beamed cottages with lovely countryside views. Before being converted, both cottages were used to store hay in the winter and you can still see many of the original features.
Threpney Cottage (ref UK12898) is an imaginatively converted ’roundhouse’ and is full of character. The cottage was named after the old twelve sided three penny piece due to its shape.
Twinkles Cottage (ref UK12900) is a charming and spacious ‘upside down’, beamed cottage, with great views across the farm and surrounding countryside.
Waggoners Cottage (ref UK12901) is a delightful single-storey cottage, with its own garden and views of the front fields and the children’s play area at the rear. The cottage was named after the wagons that used to be stored in it and you can still see many of the original features of the barn.
The Mealhouse (ref UK12902) was originally used to store the feed or ‘meal’ for the pigs that resided in the pig sty which can still be seen across from it. The Mealhouse is detached and set slightly apart from the other cottages, offering uninterrupted views across the farm.
Polean Farm provides the perfect destination for a family holiday. The farm offers animal feeding each week day morning, where you may help bottle feed lambs (seasonal) and hand feed pigmy goats and chickens, as well as enjoy pony or tractor rides! The farm is also a working livery yard and children and parents often enjoy visiting the horses and ponies each day.
Guests have free use of an indoor heated swimming pool just a few minutes’ drive away. It’s perfect for families and children who want to splash around or those wanting to put in a few lengths and keep fit. Guests are also welcome to make free use of the nightly entertainment at the same local holiday complex which is just a few minutes’ drive from the farm. The entertainment is on every night and includes children’s entertainment, followed by grown up entertainment with top musicians, performers and comedians regularly appearing throughout the season. Children are allowed in the venue for the whole evening. Please note, the pool is not available during August due to overcrowding, and entertainment is not available November-March (except during school holidays). Welcome to Hobby Lodge, a stunning timber lodge nestling in beautiful woodland within easy access of the A30 main road through Cornwall. Beautifully constructed to a very high standard throughout, there is parking for 3 cars on your private driveway, a wonderful, spacious decking area with an array of garden furniture and purpose-built BBQ. The newly installed sunken hot tub is the perfect excuse to relax, recharge and re-energise, whilst a very useful outside shower is ideal after a day at the beach to wash away the sand from you, your surf boards and of course……your four-legged friends! The garden area is enclosed with solid wooden fencing and gate.

Inside you are greeted by an open plan living space with an impressive high ceiling. Clever, subtle lighting, stunning wood burning stove, TV, sumptuous corner sofa and two charming leather chairs make this a very welcoming room. The bespoke dining area has been recently created, with wooden table, a mixture of bench style seating and chairs. The kitchen has all the appliances you may need. Bedroom one has a gorgeous kingsize bed and en-suite shower cubicle. Bedroom two has a further kingsize bed, whilst bedroom three has twin beds. The family bathroom boasts a double walk-in shower.

Just minutes from iconic Padstow, with its many excellent restaurants that line the narrow streets. Home to TV chef Rick Stein’s foodie empire, this picturesque fishing village offers many attractions from the culinary to the outdoors. The Camel Trail, a flat 18-mile trail that hugs the shoreline of the Camel estuary and travels inland to the delightful market town of Wadebridge, before leading on to Bodmin and the surrounding moors, is an absolute must. You can hire a bike and cycle the trail, in part or all 18 miles - a firm favourite with locals and tourists.

Newquay, Polzeath, Mawgan Porth, Watergate Bay plus other hidden coves along this coastline provide some of the best surfing spots in the UK. Padstow harbour also has many day boats that provide fishing trips so you might catch your evening’s supper! This area of Cornwall has a plethora of wonderful days out, be it horse riding, surfing, sailing, diving, fine dining, golf and cycling……..the list is endless. And at the end of each adventure, return to Hobby Lodge, watch the sun go down, marvel at the starlit sky and dream of what tomorrow will bring.
