This large and spacious detached house is right in the middle of Cornwall and only 7 miles from each coast. It is the perfect spot for families to reunite and enjoy this stunning county. The village sits only two minutes from the A30, making it a great touring base - you really can go anywhere from here very easily. This house is brimming with history, not only because of its name ‘Littlewood’, so named as it was built by the very first winners of the Littlewoods football pools. During the 60s and 70s, the house was a secret retreat for celebrities and pop and rock stars to hide away from the glare of the media, and to get together, play some music and party. The house has had many guests including Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Marsha Hunt and The Small Faces. St Columb Road, with its branch line station sits on the Newquay to Par train line, meaning you can stroll down the road and catch a train to Newquay on the north coast or to Par on the south coast, where you can connect with the mainline train and tour Cornwall without the need to drive.
Newquay Airport is a mere 3 miles away with links to the Scilly Isles, London Gatwick and many more UK airports, which means that you could fly down making your stay a car-free trip. Newquay, with its 11 beaches and vibrant surf culture including many excellent schools and hire shops, is a great place to unwind on the sandy beaches, walk along the dramatic coast path or simply relax in a beachside bar or restaurant. The town has a zoo and working harbour where you can take a sea fishing trip to catch supper for the barbecue back at the house.
Padstow, home to Rick Stein’s foodie empire including a cookery school and seafood restaurant, is a must. The town, with its narrow cobbled streets that gravitate towards the pretty working harbour, is a delight, a jewel on this stunning coast. Walk the streets, enjoy a pint or enjoy a pasty, try a cream tea (jam first) or hire bikes at one of the many cycle hire shops. Cycle on the Camel Trail, a flat multi-use trail that clings to the shoreline of the Camel River as it flows inland towards the market town of Wadebridge, and eventually Bodmin and Bodmin Moor. You could also cycle through the village and up onto Goss Moor, following the heritage cycle route. After taking in the ancient moors and clay works, why not stop off and enjoy a treat on your return at the village’s acclaimed fish and chip shop?
The south coast, 7 miles, with its more forgiving temperate climate, is easily reached, and a whole new world opens up in Charlestown, a World Heritage Site and home to sailing ships. The town is regularly used as a television and film set, most recently for Poldark and Taboo and many Hollywood films. The village is full of great local pubs, art shops and galleries, and has its own spectacular beach and harbour.
Truro, Fowey, Mevagissey, St Austell and The Roseland Peninsula are all easily reached too and all worth a day out. St Ives, Lostwithiel, Falmouth and Penzance are all easily reached either by car or by train, making Littlewood the perfect spot to enjoy this amazing county. Newquay, Polzeath, Mawgan Porth, Watergate Bay plus other hidden coves along this coastline provide some of the best surfing spots in the UK. There are many registered surf schools with great hire shops and coaching, so why not try this exhilarating sport in one of the most iconic surf spots? Padstow harbour also has many day boats that provide fishing trips so you can catch your evening’s supper.

This stunning lodge lies just minutes from the delightful towns of Padstow and Newquay, and the amazing coastline of North Cornwall. A visit to Padstow, with its Michelin starred restaurants, cafés, local shops and traditional pubs, is an absolute must. It makes a great day out for all whilst meandering around the lanes that gravitate to the quaint working harbour where you can watch the day boats depart. Rick Stein has a large presence in the town with delis, a chip shop and cookery school. Padstow sits at the mouth of the Camel Estuary, a tidal river which is home to sea life and wading birds, and has its very own multi-use trail that hugs the shoreline as its drifts inland. There are many excellent bike hire shops right on the quay, and you can cycle inland to the pretty market town of Wadebridge. Or if you are feeling energetic, you can cycle all the way to Bodmin deep within the Cornish countryside, with the reward of fish and chips on the quayside and a pint of local ale from the nearby Brewery at Rock! Alternatively you can catch the ferry from Padstow across the mouth of the estuary to the little village of Rock and hire a stand-up paddle board or sailing dinghy, or walk the coastal path around Daymer Bay and on to Polzeath, which is a great spot for surfing.
Newquay, the county’s capital for surf culture, boasts many charming beaches which offer something for everyone. You can learn to surf at one of the many schools, or just laze away the day on one of the quieter more family friendly beaches such as Porth or the stunning Lusty Glaze, which has a great beachside pizzeria and rum bar with live music on most nights during the summer. This is a favourite with the locals and is a great place to watch the sun set.
Watergate Bay just minutes from the lodge, has a beach with a golden stretch of sand with cafés and pubs with views to die for. Truro, the county capital, as well as Fowey, Port Isaac and St Ives, are all easily reached for days out if you can bring yourself to leave this beautiful part of Cornwall. Port Isaac, Polzeath and Rock are all nearby and easily reached with many golf clubs in the region including The Point, St Enodoc and Merlin, enabling you to play at many clubs through the week. Out and about in the region you can head west by car to the Widemouth Heritage Coast and visit mystical Tintagel and Port Isaac Bay, or head east towards Dartmoor’s wilderness; whichever direction you travel in there is sure to be something new to see. Launceston, 2 miles, once the ancient capital of Cornwall, has shops, a steam railway, castle, golf and an indoor leisure centre. A variety of golf courses locally. These pet friendly holiday barns are situated less than half a mile from the stunning north coast of Cornwall. The access is via a typical Cornish narrow road with beautiful scenic views of the sea peeping out through the hedgerow on approach.
In the heart of this small Cornish hamlet, the barns (refs 30108, 30109, 30110 and 30111) are furnished and fitted to provide a comfortable base from which to explore the many attractions that Cornwall has to offer. Each barn has a well-equipped kitchen as well as open-plan living. Each has its own sitting-out area, which is ideal for watching the wildlife and al fresco dining. Each property also has access to electric car charging points which a charge for use however if you require using the charging points you must bring your own lead. There are no local amenities as it is in a hamlet, but only a 5 minute car journey to the local village; we suggest you look at the welcome folder in the cottage to familiarise yourself to your surroundings and to discover what amenities are local to your stay.
Guests are close to the coastal path and if you walk north, you will reach Tintagel, the mythical home of King Arthur, with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants. A little further on, Boscastle with its picturesque harbour is a must. A small beach can be reached on foot, approximately ½ mile away. Travelling down the coast, guests will come to Port Isaac, where the TV series ’Doc Martin’ is filmed, and further down the coast, visit the beautiful sandy surfing beach at Polzeath and the dunes at Rock where you can take a ferry across to Padstow. From Padstow, with its working harbour, shops, pubs and restaurants, you can hire bikes and cycle the Camel Trail to Wadebridge and beyond to Bodmin.
Close by is Bodmin Moor, unspoilt moorland at its best, and for walkers the tors on the moor are a must. Further down the coast is Newquay, with its famous surfing beaches, Blue Reef Aquarium and Zoo and if you travel to the south coast, you will find Looe, Fowey and Mevagissey, just a few of the charming coastal villages. For cycling enthusiasts, there is a cycle hub at Lanhydrock, with some wonderful forest routes to be taken. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

Perfectly situated to enjoy the benefits of Cornwall and sitting quietly behind the converted chapel, overlooking the Cornish countryside, this converted Sunday School provides an ideal holiday base from which to explore the county. Cycling and walking on the official ’Clay Trails’ within the area are a must, along which you can explore the area and even reach the world famous Eden Project. To the north of the property, the fishing village of Padstow, with its numerous restaurants (local seafood is a speciality), is easily accessible. Also available is bike hire (the famous Camel Trail), fishing trips and diving. Newquay, with its excellent surfing beaches, is approximately 12 miles away. On the south coast, the ancient fishing port of Fowey is within 10 miles and was home to Daphne Du Maurier. Fowey has many events throughout the year, such as the Du Maurier festival and the Fowey Royal Regatta. It is also home to many galleries, pubs, restaurants and shops. Sea fishing, sailing and diving trips are available locally. Bodmin Moor is also close by and provides an excellent location for horse riding, walking and mountain biking.
