Little Tregarthen is a gem of a find in a quiet street in lovely Padstow, but only a short stroll to the bustling working harbour. Padstow, a jewel of a town on the north Cornwall coast, is in a central location in Cornwall, and has an abundance of great cafés, restaurants, local shops and stunning scenery. The National Lobster Hatchery Centre is right on the quay in Padstow and a fascinating insight into the conservation work they do for the sea life of the area.
There are also several vineyards close by, including the Camel Valley, with world class award-winning wines and Trevibyan Vineyard both worth a visit. Padstow has a rich heritage of fishing, and the working harbour is a great focal point with all narrow lanes leading to it. Sit and enjoy a pasty or local ice cream as the boats bob around. The town sits at the mouth of the Camel Estuary with views across to Rock, beautiful Daymer Bay and the famous Doom Bar, which a local beer is named after. You can catch a passenger ferry across the estuary to the village of Rock and walk across the golden sands. Walk along the Coastal Path to Polzeath, a small village with a great surfing beach. You’ll pass by the famous church at St Enedoc, which is the final resting place of Sir John Betjeman, the Poet Laureate.
The celebrity chef Rick Stein has many eateries in the town from a cookery school to fish and chip shop, a must for great fish and chips by the sea. Padstow has many cycle hire opportunities due to it being at the start of the Camel Trail, an 18-mile, off road, flat, multi-use trail that hugs the edge of the estuary into Wadebridge, a pretty market town, and before eventually reaching Bodmin inland. If its beaches you want, then there are many within a stroll from Little Tregarthen. Many more are just a short drive away, such as Constantine with its superb golf course, Treyarnon, Harlyn and Trevone, all stunning expanses of golden sand for that great day out by the sea. Padstow, famous for its celebrity culinary connections is a short walk and brings you to the harbour, nestling alongside the River Camel estuary, where you will find a traditional Cornish welcome, a selection of restaurants, shops and beautiful cottages. The famous Camel Trail runs from here to Bodmin, taking in some of the most beautiful scenery in the south-west; a must for walkers and cyclists. Thirty minutes by car brings you to the stunning beaches of Rock and Polzeath, with golden sands, breathtaking scenery and more to explore! There is golf nearby. Beach and pub within a mile.

Padstow, renowned for its super seafood restaurants, many with celebrity chef status, is a thriving harbour town, with narrow streets and harbour a hive of activity. Cafes, boutique shops and art galleries sit side by side with restaurants and pubs. Hire a bicycle here and follow the Camel Trail, 18 miles of a mainly flat pathway, as it threads its way through woodland, revealing scenic views. The trail leads to Wadebridge, an ancient town with many amenities and on to Bodmin, where it’s mysterious and atmospheric moor of the same name boasts strange rock formations and views so spectacular. The Eden Project, a world beneath huge Biomes is a unique experience, whilst the exquisite Lost Garden of Heligan are both peaceful and truly beautiful. The beaches in this area have broad expanses of golden sand, rockpools for all ages to enjoy and coves long associated with the legends and tales of smuggling! The Lily Pad is a wonderful and welcoming holiday home, just a few miles from the dramatic Seven Bays of North Cornwall, famed for its stunning beaches, cliffs, and coves. Once inside you are greeted with a bright and airy, open-plan living space with relaxing sofas to sink into, a cosy wood burner (with ‘starter pack’ provided) for those cooler evenings, and attractive floor and wall art unique to the property and evocative of Cornwall and its heritage. You will find lovingly restored furniture and repurposed features in the side tables and display units, turning function into fun! Lead on to the dining area, complete with impressive handmade wooden dining table and seating for ten guests, looking out onto the garden. The wall here is adorned with a fantastic map of the county, a further reminder of the wonders of this amazing region and its many attractions and places to explore! The adjoining kitchen has a small breakfast bar area and plenty of workspace and equipment for preparing breakfast or your evening meal.

There are five bedrooms all on one level, where the unique and upcycled theme continues, with solid pine furniture given a fresh modern look. A roomy family bathroom includes a bath, while a second bathroom features a walk-in shower.

Outside, an excellent decking area with table, chairs and barbecue offers the ideal space to enjoy morning coffee or evening meal al fresco. There is even a firepit!

You are spoilt for a choice of beaches here; Harlyn Bay Beach, just 3 miles away, offers a broad expanse of golden sand stretching far before you. Trevose Headland offers spectacular vistas, whilst further beaches at Treyarnon Bay and beautiful Porthcothan Beach are just a short drive away, with rock pools for all ages to explore! Visit Padstow, with its fabulous seafood restaurants, busy quayside and narrow streets, or vibrant Newquay, with its plethora of vibrant bars and restaurants, and scintillating surfing and water sports activities.

Away from the coast, Camel Valley Theme Park, the world-renowned Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan all offer fun days out, whilst Bodmin Moor is an atmospheric place, with mysterious rock formations and views as far as the eye can see. The Lily Pad is located amongst a mixture of holiday homes and residential homes on St Merryn Holiday Park which has the added benefit of offering free to use Tennis Courts, Children’s Play Area, and dedicated dog walking area plus amenities such as a shop and a bar/restaurant.

The house is tastefully furnished and comfortable all year round with a wood burner and central heating. Standing on the headland above the picturesque village of Port Gaverne, the house is a few steps from the north Cornwall coastal path. The beach at Port Gaverne is a 6-7 minute walk away and a little further is Port Isaac, with its huddle of slate houses and narrow alleyways.
The state-of-the-art kitchen is great for catering and cooking the fresh local produce. There are two excellent fish shops in Port Isaac that sell their daily catch of fish and shellfish; specialities are crab and lobster.
Local lamb, beef and pork are all available at the nearby farm shop, which has wonderful views overlooking the sea.
Famous now as the setting for the TV series ’Doc Martin’, Port Isaac is a working fishing village with shops, bars and several top-quality restaurants.
This area is now renowned as a ’foodie paradise’, with several celebrity chefs located here and the area is very well served by a whole variety of dining places to fit every pocket.
Close by is a hotel and next door is a bistro, which has indoor and outdoor dining. There are two Michelin starred restaurants in Port Isaac run by Nathan Outlaw. Nearby in Padstow is Paul Ainsworth’s Michelin starred restaurant and he has a great pub too. Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant and Cookery School are in Padstow. Rick Stein also has a number of other restaurants with varying price ranges.
This is an ideal spot for those who enjoy coastal walks, bird watching, golf, fishing, surfing, sailing, kayaking, cycling or just lazing on the beach. Polzeath’s famous surf attracts all comers, and its glorious sandy beach is just a short drive away. The cliffs, caves and rock pools are a children’s paradise.
Within an easy drive are Padstow, Tintagel, Boscastle, Bude and Wadebridge.
Wadebridge hosts one end of the Camel Trail, with a 5-mile dedicated cycle ride to Padstow on the old railway track, alongside the picturesque Camel Estuary. To the north stands Tintagel’s medieval castle and the quaint fishing village of Boscastle, with Crackington Haven and Bude a little further on. Inland lies Jamaica Inn and Bodmin Moor, the setting for the ’Poldark’ stories.
A few minutes’ walk away is a water sports centre, Cornish Rock Tors, based on the beach at Port Gaverne. They offer kayaking, paddle boarding and coasteering for individuals and groups. Polzeath’s famous surf attracts all comers, and its glorious sandy beach is just a short drive away. Water sports can be enjoyed at Rock, from where a passenger ferry crosses the Camel Estuary to the town of Padstow. Daymer Bay has another glorious sandy beach, and the golf course at St Enodoc is open to the public. John Betjeman, the late Poet Laureate, is buried at St Enodoc Church, with its twisted spire.

Mews Cottage is a beautifully presented two-bedroom, semi-detached holiday home set in the heart of Tintagel on the Northern Cornish coast. It is an original Cornish stone and slate dwelling. Whilst being within a few seconds walk on a private walk way to the hustle and bustle of Tintagel Village, you can still enjoy the peaceful serenity that Mews Cottage offers being in a small secluded area from the village. Mews has a free parking permit available which is provided by the owners.
The historical cottage, built around the 1890’s and was a former stables for a local Inn, feels bright and stylish whilst maintaining the rustic feel of the property. After an action-packed day exploring the coast, enter into the kitchen/dining area where you will find everything you need to enjoy a self-catered break. Head into the spacious lounge where you can unwind on the comfortable seating, watch a film on the smart TV whilst enjoying the glows of the electric wood burner in the background. This warm and light room has double doors which lead into the enclosed courtyard area which can create a fresh and airy feel throughout the entire day. Perfect for enjoying the warm Cornish evenings or a morning coffee. An absolute sun trap. Upstairs are two cosy bedrooms, wonderfully presented with high apexed ceilings displaying exposed wooden beams. The master bedroom offers a kingsize bed and next door is the light and airy twin bedroom. A shower room with heated towel rail completes the picture. Mews Cottage is just a few steps from the main street, with a variety of shops, pubs, restaurants and Tintagel Castle, the mythical home of King Arthur. There is also a good bus serivce in Tintagel so you have the option of leaving the car. The coast is within a 10-minute walk and the nearest beach at Bossiney Cove is just 1.3 miles away or a 25-minute walk across the fields. Within easy reach are the coastal villages of Boscastle and Port Isaac, the latter made famous by the TV series, ’Doc Martin’. Further along the coast are the golden, sandy beaches of Rock and Polzeath. Plenty of walking and local paths perfect for the family, and prime dog walking places on the doorstep of Mews Cottage. Trebarwith Strand a 10 minutes drive is a perfect beach for this, dog friendly all year round, but is also accessable via the coastal path past St Materiana’s church.
