Treligga, EnglandThese pet friendly holiday barns are situated less than half a mile from the stunning north coast of Cornwall. The access is via a typical Cornish narrow road with beautiful scenic views of the sea peeping out through the hedgerow on approach.
In the heart of this small Cornish hamlet, the barns (refs 30108, 30109, 30110 and 30111) are furnished and fitted to provide a comfortable base from which to explore the many attractions that Cornwall has to offer. Each barn has a well-equipped kitchen as well as open-plan living. Each has its own sitting-out area, which is ideal for watching the wildlife and al fresco dining. Each property also has access to electric car charging points which a charge for use however if you require using the charging points you must bring your own lead. There are no local amenities as it is in a hamlet, but only a 5 minute car journey to the local village; we suggest you look at the welcome folder in the cottage to familiarise yourself to your surroundings and to discover what amenities are local to your stay.
This barn has the private use of a hot tub, but please note the first night the temperature may not of quite reached it’s optimal temperature due to the replenishment of fresh water post cleaning the tub.
Guests are close to the coastal path and if you walk north, you will reach Tintagel, the mythical home of King Arthur, with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants. A little further on, Boscastle with its picturesque harbour is a must. A small beach can be reached on foot, approximately ½ mile away. Travelling down the coast, guests will come to Port Isaac, where the TV series ’Doc Martin’ is filmed, and further down the coast, visit the beautiful sandy surfing beach at Polzeath and the dunes at Rock where you can take a ferry across to Padstow. From Padstow, with its working harbour, shops, pubs and restaurants, you can hire bikes and cycle the Camel Trail to Wadebridge and beyond to Bodmin.
Close by is Bodmin Moor, unspoilt moorland at its best, and for walkers the tors on the moor are a must. Further down the coast is Newquay, with its famous surfing beaches, Blue Reef Aquarium and Zoo and if you travel to the south coast, you will find Looe, Fowey and Mevagissey, just a few of the charming coastal villages. For cycling enthusiasts, there is a cycle hub at Lanhydrock, with some wonderful forest routes to be taken. Melvich, ScotlandBorlum House Farm in Reay on the far north coast of Scotland is a brilliant location to be based for a memorable short break or longer holiday. The restored early 18th century farmhouse and buildings are surrounded by highland cows, lambs and chickens. The Annex is a converted barn attached to the farmhouse that was originally maid quarters.
The farm was originally part of the Sandside Estate which was owned at one time by Mr Pilkington of Pilkington Glass. Records date back to 1729 and it is known that the farm was a sheep farm with dairy for cheese-making. Situated in an enviable spot up the hill from Reay and overlooking the magnificent north coast of Scotland right out to sea, arriving at The Annex you’ll be delighted with the location you’ve picked for your holiday.
Just off the NC500 that goes through Reay, Borlum House Farm is perfectly placed as a base to explore the far north coast. As well as Sandside Bay Beach with Fresgoe Harbour, just down from Reay, and Reay’s fantastic links golf course, there’s so much to see and do that the NC500 touring route will help you reach.
Other amazing beaches nearby include Melvich and Strathy, which are loved by surfers. Historic Thurso is nearby and so too is the ferry port for trips over to Orkney, a great day-trip from Borlum House Farm. Beyond Thurso you must visit Dunnet Head, the Castle of Mey, John O’Groats and Duncansby Stacks. To be honest, the list of amazing places to see goes on and on, and alas we can’t feature all here. But be certain that there’s so much to do during your stay at Borlum House Farm.
The accommodations are finished to a high standard. Both cottages include a kingsize double bedroom with en-suite double shower cubicle. Highland Soap products and lovely bathrobes are provided. The open-plan living/dining/kitchen space is great, complete with Smart TV and woodburning stove. Outside each property there is a private and enclosed garden as well the freedom to explore the grounds of the farm and meet the animals. This is an old fisherman’s cottage with very steep stairs to the first floor leading to the master bedroom and a very small second bedroom. In the summer Aldeburgh is a hive of activity and a much sought after location. Its high street is filled with restaurants, pubs and shops. Along the promenade, fresh fish is sold from the beach huts that line the sandy stretch of beach - the iconic scallop shell sculpture standing proud in the centre, a tribute to Benjamin Britten, the composer famously affiliated with this beautiful part of the world. Surrounding Aldeburgh there is plenty to see and do and a short drive inland will bring you to Snape Maltings, the home of Aldeburgh Music. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there is a year round music programme. This unique location brings visitors outstanding concerts, events, cafés, galleries, river trips and much more. - Fort William, ScotlandSituated above Loch Linnhe with uninterrupted views over towards Corpach and Trislaig, you can watch the sea and golden eagles above from the decking of this pod, as well as the roe deer visiting you in the morning. Unlike other pods, Cheviot comes with a full-size shower, a wood burner, a kingsize bed, a sofa bed for two children and a kitchen with a mini fridge and freezer. This is the perfect spot to relax in and enjoy the area with many activities and attractions within driving distance.
The nearest pubs, restaurants and shops are within 1 mile from Cheviot pod. The train station (which is less than 2 miles will away) will take you on the Harry Potter Steam Train and over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, passing some of the most spectacular scenery and beaches that cannot be seen from the road down to Mallaig. The latter is renowned as a fishing village and also where you can get a ferry over to the Isle of Skye (remember to pre book the train as it fills up quickly).
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK and is one of the munros you can enjoy a walk up to the summit. The Nevis Range hosts the European Bike Trials.
South of Fort William you have Glencoe; no matter what time of year you travel through Glencoe it is a mystical land and will not fail to impress. Again, it offers great walks for all abilities and there is also a ski lift for those that enjoy the winter sport (in the summer the dry ski slope is open for tubing, a great fun day for all the family). If you are looking for something to do on a rest day in Fort William itself, there is a cinema, soft play, ten pin bowling, swimming pool or enjoy a walk over to Neptunes Staircase.

Burnham-on-Sea, EnglandWelcome to Mudhorse Cottage, a beautiful one bedroomed cottage less than a minute’s walk to the beach and the South West coastal path. Mudhorse Cottage has an interesting history, previously being the last Mudhorse Fisherman’s Cottage in the UK, with subtle nods to this reflected throughout including many books detailing the unique thousand-year-old traditional fishing. Completely refurbished in 2022 to a high standard, you enter the porch which has a fabulous map which the owners have thoughtfully plotted out places of interest and great local spots to eat out.
From here you head into the spacious open plan living/dining/kitchen area, the latter being very well equipped. The comfortable dining area opens onto the lounge which has a gorgeous wood burner for winter months. A further snug with sofa bed makes a wonderful reading room or chill space with smart TV and a stunning stained-glass window depicting the last Mud-horse Fisherman who lived in the property. The lovely bedroom has a super king-size bed and plenty of storage, and a fabulous bathroom with roll top bath and shower. Outside to the front is a patio seating area with a lovely pond and water feature, while to the rear, a lawned garden with BBQ and sun loungers, the perfect space to lay back, relax and enjoy the quiet after a day exploring.
Step outside the property and within 50 yards you are at Stolford Sea front and common land, perfect for dogs and humans to stretch their legs and soak in the sea air along the pebble and sandy beach. The coastal path here leads to Steart Marshes (WWT) a thriving nature reserve a little further on there is the village of Combwich where you can enjoy a pub lunch or in the opposite direction the path takes you to Kilve a place of special scientific interest. For a more traditional seaside atmosphere, head East to Burnham on Sea or Weston Super Mare with the latter having the great pier packed with amusements as well as lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. To the West a short drive takes you to Watchet a pretty harbour town, Dunster with its Castle and Minehead and North Devon with the beautiful Exmoor National Park. Stolford is nestled only a few miles from The Quantock Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Bridgwater and Taunton are within easy reach with its many shops, bars, and restaurants and its train station which has direct links to Bristol, Cardiff and south to Penzance, so you will be spoilt for choice for days out!
