Definitely off the beaten track, this wonderful holiday home stands in the most beautiful of settings. Lying to the western side of Corney Fell, which is dominated by Black Combe, you will enjoy the most extensive views. The former Foldgate Farmhouse, nestles around a courtyard with outhouse and stables, and has been extensively refurbished. The farmhouse has lovely features - wooden and flagged floors, beams, wood burner and open fire, and has been warmly decorated and furnished with great attention to comfort. This welcoming home from home will be a haven to relax and unwind, enjoy the views from the decked areas; or just curl up on the sofa and read a book by the fire. Alternatively, there are plenty of attractions for you to visit in the nearby locality. The small town of Bootle is just 1½ miles with shops and café, the lakes Wastwater, Ennerdale and Coniston are all within a 20-30 minute drive. The coast is 2 miles, Muncaster and Ravenglass 5 miles. Corner Cottage is set in an ideal position on the north edge of Windermere village. Enjoy being close to all the village amenities. It is also well placed for Bowness and Ambleside and access to the shores of Lake Windermere is only a short distance away. The longest lake in England, Lake Windermere enjoys a dramatic backdrop of wooded slopes and bare fells. Troutbeck Bridge lies to the north between Windermere and Ambleside; handy for both but located just off the beaten track.
Visit the 18th-century dome shaped villa on Belle Isle, the largest of the fourteen islands, which can be reached by ferry. Nearby attractions include a steamboat museum and visitors’ centre at Brockhole. Across the waters at Far Sawrey lies Beatrix Potter’s former home Hill Top (National Trust), a must for anyone who has ever enjoyed the tales of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-duck. Orrest Head House was built in 1672 and was one of the first houses in Birthwaite, (as Windermere was known before it was renamed when the railway arrived in the 1850’s). Orrest Head House stands at the head of Windermere village and shares over 2 acres of stunning private grounds with Orrest Head Cottage (which can also be rented through Cumbrian Cottages CC127230). As you’d expect the house is packed full of eclectic features, which have evolved in over 400 years of history. After a recent renovation the house features a state-of-the-art kitchen with an adjacent TV snug room, lounge with huge sumptuous Chesterfield sofas seating 16 people, formal dining room with a grand square table again seating 16. White Moss is one of our 5 historic buildings designed by Augustus (AWN) Pugin to let on The Terrace in Windermere. The house sleeps up to twelve in five bedrooms. Downstairs there’s a living room with seating for fifteen people, the room has a wood burning stove and large flat screen TV. The dining room is quite regal, with large table seating 11. The room also has a wood burning stove. The kitchen is hand made solid pine, with two oven Aga and a second range cooker, plus and all the usual appliances. Opposite the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine and dryer, plus an extra American style fridge/freezer with icemaker. It’s a great space for muddy boots and wet dogs. Finally there’s a down stairs toilet. In the cellar there’s a fantastic cinema room with twelve fold down cinema seats and a 75" Smart TV. On the first floor there are 4 bedrooms.
