Kimberdale Lodge is spacious and beautifully situated. Set in large gardens with a picturesque, rural outlook in the peaceful Cumbrian countryside. The covered area to the rear of the lodge is particularly handy for all your wet weather gear – we do sometimes get rain here in Cumbria!
Whilst Kimberdale Lodge is set in a rural area you are only a short drive from Carlisle and the M6 motorway, making it the ideal base to explore the surrounding area which includes the Lake District National Park, not to mention the world famous Hadrian’s Wall which is basically on your doorstep. Surrounded by miles of quiet country lanes it’s the perfect location for a walk or a bike ride, perhaps stopping off at some of the local village pubs on your way. Just a short drive south of the Scottish Border, and close to the Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you can spot a fantastic array of wildlife. The border city of Carlisle also has plenty to see and do including the castle, Tullie House Museum and a whole host of shops, cafés and restaurants.

The Old Dairy Cottage is a charming little cottage which has been completely refurbished in 2023 and retains delightful original features. Converted from an old dairy, the open plan living, kitchen and dining area has exposed beams and a lovely feature in the bedroom is the exposed original stonework. From the garden and conservatory there are wonderful views where you can sit and enjoy whatever the weather.
Set on the edge of the small village of Ainstable there are wonderful walks from your doorstep, along quiet country lanes and along the beautiful River Eden only a mile away. Ainstable is a quiet little Cumbrian village with a local pub and restaurant and just over a mile away is Armathwaite, where you can jump on the Settle to Carlisle railway line, a really beautiful journey. The wonderful Cumbrian countryside is just waiting to be explored from the historical site of Hadrian’s Wall, with its rich history and dramatic landscape, to the majestic mountains and lakes of the Lake District National Park, a World Heritage Site.
A short drive will take you over the border to Scotland, to the beautiful beaches of Dumfries and Galloway and the stunning Solway Coast. The beautiful border city of Carlisle is a short drive away or a scenic trip on the Settle to Carlisle railway line, where you can visit the castle or just take in some retail therapy at some of the high street shops.

If you want a town centre holiday base, it’s perfect! Just under a 5-minute walk to Main Street, which is full of independent shops, cafés, restaurants, and pubs. Cockermouth is a hidden gem and a great choice for a short break in The Lakes, as well as an ideal base for a longer stay as you can reach nearby Keswick in about 20 minutes. If you love the outdoors, you have a fishery and a golf course nearby as well as plenty of local walks and cycle trails. A trip to Cumbria wouldn’t be the same without putting on your walking boots and enjoying the picturesque scenery of the Northern Fells and Lakes. From here you can also reach the West Cumbrian Coast in less than 10 miles.

Old Byre Cottage and Fell View Cottage are two semi-detached barn conversions having been beautifully refurbished in 2023. Great Corby is a desirable and very pretty little village and has a well-regarded pub and a microbrewery where you can enjoy some fine ales all brewed on site. The village is beautifully placed above the River Eden where an impressive Victorian viaduct spans the river and provides pedestrian access to the nearby village of Wetheral. Diamond Cottage is the perfect location for exploring further afield. Enjoy a visit to Hadrian’s Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Talkin Tarn is also a lovely day out where you can enjoy water sports on the Tarn and enjoy the lovely woodland walks. The delightful little market town of Brampton is close by where there are a mix of shops and restaurants and the Border city of Carlisle where you can enjoy high street shopping or cultural sites. Close to the Lake District National Park, the North Pennines and Scotland your location here at Diamond Cottage is superb.

River View Cottage is a detached, ground floor cottage accommodating up to four guests, with an open plan living/dining room and views up the river, making it ideal for entertaining. Brockholes Farm is situated along the banks of the River Lune and surrounded by the stunning Howgill Fells. There are five stunning holiday cottages on the old farm, which is just 2 miles from Tebay and close to the M6.
Each of the cottages have been lovingly renovated from old farm buildings and are furnished and decorated to a very good standard, retaining character and charm. They all come with private outdoor seating areas with excellent views onto the river and down into the valley, along with shared use of a children’s play area, plus the opportunity for walks across the owner’s land and fishing on the river.
This area is surrounded by what is effectively three National Parks. The North Pennines boasts rolling hills, woodland, and picturesque surroundings, the Yorkshire Dales National Park has caves, waterfalls and iconic and historical towns and villages, whilst the Lake District National Park features lakes, mountains and a number of tourist hotspots. If you like walking, hiking, climbing, cycling or you just like to drive around beautiful countryside and enjoy afternoon tea and a bit of shopping, you’re spoilt for choice.
Nearby Kirkby Stephen is steeped in history and offers a good selection of bars, restaurants, independent shops and sights to visit. It also offers several walking routes locally, plenty of wildlife and pleasant scenery. The market town of Kendal, 10 miles, is known as the ‘gateway to the southern Lake District’, and is perfect for a day of shopping. From here you can easily access the popular tourist hotspots of Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere, as well as take a cruise on the famous Windermere steamers.

The balcony does have horizontal rails so toddler beware but it does have plenty of space and seating for eight guests making it a special place to enjoy alfresco dining on warmer evenings. Built into the hill to take advantage of the lake view, the house is moderately split level, with the huge master bedroom and luxurious en-suite bathroom being situated on the lower ground floor. There is plenty of storage provided for two guests with a wardrobe and drawers. The en-suite is huge and has been finished to a high specification. There are a further two double rooms both with en-suite shower rooms and a further room with a large zip and link bed and family bathroom directly across the hallway. There’s a large garage which can be utilised for cycle storage, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and such like. There’s a washing machine in the garage too, should you need to refresh your towels after a day at the lake.
This property is perfectly placed to enjoy all that Bownesss-on-Windermere has to offer, including some of the Lake District’s finest attractions. Take a cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or across to Lakeside to enjoy a day at the aquarium, or hop on the steam train to Haverthwaite. Alternatively, try your hand at sailing and hire your own boat for a few hours. Paddle boarding is also a popular activity on the lake, so if you have one, then it’s certainly worth bringing it along. Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to Beatrix Potter World and the wonderful Art Deco Royalty Cinema. If you’re feeling energetic, so many walks can be found nearby including ’Orrest Head’ in Windermere, a relatively short walk offering spectacular views over Lake Windermere. Some of the Lake District’s fantastic fells are a mere short drive away, as well as the small ’Alpine’ like village of Grasmere, where William Wordsworth is laid to rest at St. Oswald’s Church, and if you’re a fan of Gingerbread, a visit to Grasmere Gingerbread shop is a must! There is a village pub serving food, 100 yards from the house, with excellent amenities in Penrith just 5 miles.

As you arrive at the Beckside House, there is ample private parking directly outside the property making for a smooth transition of bags in the house. The entrance hall is light and airy and has hanging for coats and a rack for shoes. To the left is a good-sized twin bedroom with plenty of storage. The two single beds are zip and link so can be configured as a second double if preferred (please specify at the time of booking). Situated next to the second bedroom is the open living space, finished to a good standard with a modern feel. The living area benefits from a 50” TV and gives views to the enclosed patio and garden area, with French doors so you can open the whole space up on warm summer days. There is a round, glass table for dining and the well-appointed kitchen means the cook can still be part of the conversation as dinner is prepared. The kitchen has a large fridge/freezer, electric hob and oven, microwave and a dishwasher. These is also a washing machine for the outdoor enthusiast who may get caught out by the weather. The property houses a large bath to soak away the day’s aches and pains, and a large drench shower. The property is completed by the large master bedroom which has plenty of space and a kingsize bed to lull you to sleep.

The property is ideally located with the centre of Dalton-in-Furness only a 2-minute walk from the front door. Dalton offers a good range of shops and take-aways, as well as a selection of lovely pubs which offer food as well as a good selection of beers. Within 3 miles are a number of attractions, such as the Safari Zoo, Furness Abbey and a local leisure centre with a great pool for kids. If you want to travel a bit further afield then within a 20-mile radius there is the World-famous Lake Windermere, Lakeland Motor Museum, Go-Ape High ropes adventure, Miniature Village, Bigland Hall equestrian (Horse riding) and Lakes Aquarium to name but a few, so there is something for every family member, and of course, you are at the gateway to the whole of the Lake District National Park.
