Nestling in 14 acres of grounds on an upland called Priest’s Hill with excellent walking available from the doorstep, the properties have the use of an extensive range of leisure facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, solarium and treatment rooms. Noble names have woven the threads of the hall’s long history including Henry de Ferrers, the Cokaynes and the Harthills. Henry VIII is also believed to have stayed at the hall.

It was here in 1259 that Sir Richard de Hartle was issued a Papal Bull by Pope Alexander II, allowing him to appoint his own chaplain. The chapel ceased its functions as a place of worship in 1546 and now takes the form of The Chapel and Hartle Cottage. The eight cottages are furnished with antiques and surround a medieval cobbled courtyard. They all retain a wealth of original features including thick stone walls, large oak beams, mullion windows and flagstone floors. Derbyshire’s bustling market towns, villages, hills, dales and rivers offer majestic scenery, and a rich variety of customs. Boasting a varied and beautiful landscape, they offer a blend of heritage, history and family attractions.

The beautiful market town of Bakewell (3½ miles) is situated on the River Wye, crossed by a 13th-century five-arched bridge which has coffee shops and restaurants. Within easy reach are Matlock, Hall Leys Park, Chesterfield, Alfreton and Buxton. National Trust properties and gardens nearby include Riley Graves, Longshaw, Mam Tor, South Peak, Dovedale, Hardwick Hall and Kedleston Hall. Close by are both Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Golf and horse riding are available within 5 miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub 1 mile.

If you want to leave your car for a rest, walks can be enjoyed directly from the door with many public footpaths right on the doorstep. The small, rural village of Ashover is peacefully situated in the Amber Valley, just 5 miles from Matlock. The village has several good pubs, including one of the oldest pubs in the Peak District and another which offers home brewed Ashover ales. The county town of Matlock, a former spa town, offers a host of fine eating places, good shops and an interesting museum, whilst at the heart of the town, Hall Leys Park provides a lovely setting for a host of recreational activities such as bowls, tennis and boating.
Enjoy a thrilling day at Gulliver’s Kingdom, with its owl maze, water gardens, nature trails, exhilarating rides and cable car trips over the magnificent Matlock Gorge. Follow the High Peak Cycle Trail, explore the lovely market town of Bakewell, famous for the Bakewell pudding or visit the elegant Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall where it all started for the Cavendish family. There is certainly plenty to see and do at this wonderful location.

This heart-warming retreat is perfect for couples and families alike seeking a rural location with direct access to canal towpath and wharf. Halfway between the bustling cities of Nottingham and Derby, also an easy drive away from the wonderful Peak District National Park. The cottage, built for salt mill workers is 18th century, and its name originates from Wilne Lane which is mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
Shardlow is an unexpected delight for any unsuspecting visitor, whether emerging from the Derby conurbation in the north and finding quiet, spacious, sweeping greenery, or from the south where a signpost tells you you’re now in Derbyshire, although without the hills and dales you might have been expecting. As you spy the boats, locks, and warehouses, you might even wonder if you’ve been transported to a corner of the Netherlands, an impression that would have been even more likely if Shardlow had hung on to its windmill and more importantly in its hayday it was referred to as ‘Rural Rotterdam’ and ‘Little Liverpool’. Today Shardlow is Britain’s most complete surviving example of a canal village, much of it snuggled safely in a conservation area.
Discover the National Trust property of Kedleston Hall, Derby Museum and Art Gallery and a variety of independent shops, supermarkets, pubs, and cafés in case you fancy a spot of lunch or picking up a souvenir for your loved one’s back home. There is a rich network of footpaths that radiate from the village with undulating countryside of fields, meadows, bluebell woods and a famous cave, ideal for horse riders, hikers, runners, and cyclists. For more history and culture, visit Nottingham Castle Museum, the National Trust Grade I listed building Calke Abbey, Art Gallery and Wollaton park, as well as the ancient City of Caves. Alveston Castle is only 5 minutes away. Further afield is the beautiful Peak District National Park, home to a wonderful nature reserve such as Dovedale, ideal for all manner of walking, hiking and mountain biking opportunities. With canal side pubs, restaurants, and waterside walks straight from the door there is plenty to do at Wilne Cottage.

For the narrow boat experience, take a trip on the Mercia Swan or enjoy a delicious selection of food throughout the day or perhaps afternoon tea on The Boat Street Café. For those of you who like to fish, all of our guests automatically qualify to the Mercia Marina Angling Club and can fish free of charge at designated places within the marina, so bring your fishing gear! There are some sizeable carp and pike, along with many other species of inland waterways fish.
Viburnum Lodge is the perfect place to explore the stunning Derbyshire countryside and all of the local attractions the area has to offer. There is a huge enclosed dog walking field around 30 seconds from the property, ideal for your four-legged friends. From the marina, there are beautiful towpath walks along the Trent and Mersey canal. The local village of Willington is a 15-minute stroll up the canal. Here you will find pubs, restaurants, shops, takeaways and Willington railway station.
A little further afield, you’ll find the breath-taking views and quaint market towns of the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales. Many different National Trust properties, such as Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall and Sudbury are not far away. The National Memorial Arboretum and Alton Towers are nearby too.
From the many local attractions, to the peace and tranquillity of the lakeside position of Viburnum Lodge and the bustling boardwalk of the Marina, this truly is a magical place for a fantastic break.

Sycamore Cottage is a stunning cottage located on the edge of the quirky village of Bonsall. Walk through the garden to the front door and you will see the sunken hot tub and an enclosed courtyard with patio furniture. Step in to the kitchen, finished with a modern interior whilst still keeping the tradition of the house, there is everything you should need here to cook up your favourite meals, and a dining table to enjoy it at. The living room has a large TV and ’wood burner effect’ electric fire with a comfortable corner sofa, perfect for relaxing in the evenings. On the first floor are two double bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms and with lovely views down the village. One of the double rooms can be made into twin beds on request. There is plenty of roadside parking close to the cottage.
Explore the village with its unique roundabout feature and quaint pubs. There is a walk along the Limestone Way straight from your doorstep which is a route running from Bonsall to Matlock. You are a short drive from Matlock Bath which boasts the famous illuminations annually, Gulliver’s Kingdom and The Heights of Abraham. Ensure you take a visit to Chatsworth House, a fantastic estate to walk around and explore. Being located so centrally within the Peak District is one of the best features Sycamore Cottage has, and at the end of each exciting day you have a welcoming haven to return to.

This cosy, spacious and traditional cottage is situated in the heart of the village of Bradwell. It has been furnished to a very good standard and offers an excellent base for walking, cycling or just relaxing. Bradwell village boasts a thriving high street of shops including the famous Bradwell Ice Cream shop, a family run fish and chip shop, bakery, coffee house and small supermarket. There are four pubs in the village to suit every taste, all providing food and most allowing children, dogs and muddy boots. A huge range of superb walks are in Bradwell and the surrounding area, including a very popular walk direct from Bradwell to Castleton a must see village at any time of the year. There are excellent transport links to and from the village with Hope Rail Station only minutes away, being on the direct line for Manchester and Sheffield.
The cottage enjoys free Wi-fi and a TV with Freeview, a DVD player and a games console with a good selection of DVD’s, books and tables games for the family. Dogs are particularly welcome, with doggy bowls provided and a treat pack to ensure they don’t miss out on all the fun!

This beautifully refurbished stone cottage enjoys far reaching views across the owner’s open farmland. Set off a quiet lane leading from the town, it offers a quiet rural location yet within easy reach of the town’s facilities. The front door of the property leads into a spacious lounge/dining room, complete with oak floor, leather sofa and splendid wood burning stove with plenty of logs for winter evenings. The modern kitchen is well equipped, with a door leading out to a nice rear, shared access to an enclosed patio, with garden furniture to sit out in the summer. There is also patio furniture at the front of the property.

The cottage has been equipped with quality appliances and is situated close to the popular market town of Bakewell. It is in a great location for visiting the Derbyshire countryside.

This cosy cottage has been renovated in 2022 to a very high standard, where great thought and craftmanship has gone into every aspect making it a fantastic base for your Peak District base.
The ground floor comprises of a small but adequate kitchen with dishwasher and all the equipment you should require. The sitting room offers comfortable seating, TV and wood burner effect electric fire, there is also a dining table and chairs. The bathroom is also located on the ground floor with shower over bath. Upstairs are two bedrooms, the master offering a double bed and the second bedroom has two singles. Outside there is an outhouse storing washing machine/tumbler and sink. There is parking for 1 car and an open patio area with outdoor furniture and BBQ overlooking the village.
Taddington village is in the heart of the Peak District and it has a great pub serving fantastic food within walking distance of the property. You can head out on foot on endless walks or explore the local towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Chatsworth plus lots more!
