Nestled in the sleepy village of Cutthorpe, in the heart of Derbyshire, you can explore the Peak District National Park within a few minutes drive. With open countryside views to the front and beautiful fields to the rear, Cutthorpe village is semi-rural and home to the fabulous Linacre Reservoirs, which are surrounded by fields and bluebell woods which provide many walking trails for all abilities. Cutthorpe benefits from three local pubs, each of which serve food, and there is a whole host of attractions within easy travelling distance. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall and Bolsover Castle can all be reached in less than 30 minutes, as can the towns of Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock, Chesterfield and even the city of Sheffield. For the energetic, Carsington Water has cycling routes and sailing available, and can be reached in around 45 minutes. For those bigger thrills, Alton Towers can be reached in around an hour. Johnnygate Grange is perfectly placed in the grounds of the wonderful Barlow Woodseats Hall which dates to the Norman conquest and was rebuilt in 1624. The house was the first marital home of Bess of Hardwick who later went on to build Hardwick Hall and Chatsworth House, both of which are nearby and a must to visit. It now offers guests five characterful en-suite bedrooms, an attractive sitting room with original features and a spacious open plan kitchen and dining area, perfect for family and friends to gather in and enjoy.
Take time to explore the local surroundings, where you will find places to eat ranging from pub food to fine dining. Close by are many outdoor sports including walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and clay pigeon shooting. The bustling market town of Chesterfield is nearby, packed with plenty of independent shops for a spot of retail therapy, as well as the local markets where you can browse specialist stores and local produce. Explore the impressive 14th-century church, renowned for its crooked spire. Or head to the lush Queens Park where you can savour a homemade picnic next to the lake, before taking a stroll where you will pass the summer bandstand, a museum and theatre, which frequently hosts live performances.
Just a little further is Matlock, home to the Pic Tor War Memorial which boasts impressive views at its top. Here you can hop aboard a vintage steam train on the Peak Rail and see the sights, or venture into the skies in an alpine-style cable car at the Heights of Abraham, where you can enjoy cavern tours and a fossil museum. Nearby is Matlock Bath and Matlock Farm Park which offers a great selection of activities for the kids, including the Matlock Bath Aquarium and Arcade and the fun-filled Gulliver’s Kingdom theme park.

The former farm building was once owned by the Prime Minister Lord Melbourne, to whom Queen Victoria was very close to, and sits adjacent to the owner’s home, Manor Farm, a medieval Grade II listed manor house which dates back to 1553. The Old Stables is one of six dotted around this stunning courtyard setting and has been converted to a good standard throughout. The property offers exposed beams and is full of character, really giving this holiday home a unique feel. Stable doors welcome you into the open plan kitchen and living area, and upstairs there are two bedrooms and a super bathroom complete with a spa bath.

Carsington Water offers nature trails, a wildlife sanctuary, riding, water sports, cycle hire and a restaurant. There are many excellent pubs in the surrounding villages. The bathrooms and bedrooms have been finished to a luxurious standard with plenty of space and light with the bathrooms having underfloor heating. Outside there is a generously sized garden with high walls ensuring privacy and home to one of the nine wells of Bakewell plus the old stables and blacksmiths workshop where you can store your bikes. Tissington has a lot to offer; it is the home of the well-dressing event, Tissington Hall, and the Tissington Trail is one of the best walking and cycling routes in the Peak District. Another fantastic walk from Tissington is to Dovedale, where the famous Dovedale stepping stones are. Alton Towers is a 25 minute drive which makes a great day out for all the family. This truly is a fantastic property to return back to after you have finished exploring for the day.
