The holiday lodges lie in a lovely setting that offer a comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area. There are 10 acres of beautiful, ancient woodland, complete with a stream winding its way through the land, plus an abundance of wildlife, ponds and granite boulders. A rich variety of plants and woodland flowers offer an idyllic haven for the resident wildlife. This is a brilliant area for walking, relaxing and star gazing as there is no light pollution. Nearby, a golf club and horse riding over Dartmoor are available. Being in the midst of Dartmoor, there are many superb walks, reservoirs, heather-clad tors and Dartmoor ponies. There are many places of interest for the whole family. If you are a keen walker, the Teign Valley is well known for its delightful woodland footpaths. It is an area of outstanding beauty and in the springtime, the Dunsford woods are famous for beautiful natural daffodils and a little later, a carpet of bluebells. Locally you will find an archery centre and the famous Warhorse Museum. Hatherleigh is nearby, with two pubs, a shop, fish and chip shop, tourist information and a great café that does all day breakfasts and delicious homemade cakes. This part of rural Devon is known as Ruby Country, ideal for walkers and countryside lovers, and is also within easy reach of the Tarka Trail which offers spectacular off-road walking and cycling.

Further afield, the stunning coastline offers plenty of beaches, ideal for surfing, swimming, and rock pool fun. The coastal towns of Bude, Clovelly, Bideford and Westward Ho! are all within easy reach by car, where you will find traditional seaside activities, surfing and the Southwest Coast Path. Branscombe boasts a beautiful pebbly beach which is a natural sun trap, and a beautiful coastal path on the Jurassic Coast, just waiting to be explored. The one hour cliffside walk from Branscombe to the quintessential fishing village of Beer is a particular highlight with breathtaking scenery and ocean views. You can explore Heritage coast footpaths from Branscombe and Sidmouth in one direction and Lyme Regis and Seaton in the other. Enjoy freshly caught fish and chips and an ice cream whilst searching for fossils along the Jurassic Coast. The Regency seaside town of Sidmouth is just three miles away where you’ll find a great range of attractions and activities, including a visit to the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary. For the little ones, the World of Country Life, Crealy Adventure Park, Beer Quarry Caves, Bicton Gardens and Pecorama are all within a short drive. Sheepwash Square House located in a quaint North Devon village is a 1600’s Grade II listed thatched house accommodating up to twelve guests.

Perfect for families or groups of friends with spacious rooms and a ‘cottage chic’ theme with wooden shutters throughout. The well equipped kitchen is a delight with everything you could need, the large island makes a great place to socialize whilst cooking under the beautiful vaulted ceiling. The large living room overlooks the village square, and has a beautiful fireplace, wood burner and upright piano. The six bedrooms each have tea and coffee facilities, a writing desk and lamp, fluffy towels and quality Egyptian bedding. On the first floor the first bedroom, the ‘George Room’, is spacious, with double aspect views over the village square and the rear fields. There is a lot of outdoor space including a charming walled garden, along with a studio, including mini home gym with exercise equipment, a 50” TV with Netflix and Sky, armchairs, massage chair, rocking chair and a small library. The lawned walled garden and courtyard has lots of seating with parasols for sunny days. There is a delightful summer house to the rear of the garden and a firepit for sultry evenings. The ’dog lobby’ by the back door is ideal for a well-behaved pooch and it has a dog flap which leads into the courtyard. There are also some dog beds and spare leads that guests can use if needed.

Sheepwash is a delightful base to explore North Devon. There is a village shop which is open several times a week selling fresh local supplies and it has a post office. The local pub does takeaways and organises fishing on the River Torridge. Just a little further by car are the market towns of Holsworthy, Hatherleigh and Okehampton. Westward Ho! in Devon or Bude in Cornwall are within a 40-minute drive. Westward Ho! has a long golden sandy beach backed by a pebble ridge. On the northern end is the Northern Burrows, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with sand dunes, salt marsh, grassland, rocky shore and is teeming with wildlife. A shorter drive south takes you to Dartmoor National Park where you can have a delightful pub lunch in the village of Belstone or take a walk on the moors and see Dartmoor ponies. They have also created covered shelters and small ponds for amphibians around the shared meadow. Guests are encouraged to use the owl observatory to enjoy the local wildlife and take advantage of the sunsets and dark skies to star gaze on clear evenings.

There are many lovely coastal villages to explore including nearby Bucks Mills, Peppercombe, Clovelly, with its donkey transport, and Hartland. Just a short drive from the secluded, dog friendly, sand and shingle beach in the tiny clifftop hamlet of Bucks Mills, one of the most beautiful villages in North Devon, a secluded hidden gem with pretty white washed cottages speckled along a wooded valley at the end of a no through road.
