It is a fantastic location for visiting Yorkshire’s attractions and best kept secrets. From its lively cities to pretty villages and rolling countryside, Yorkshire has so much to offer.
Tickton Hall is a 110-acre private country estate nestled at the end of a tree lined drive just outside the historical market town of Beverley. The estate has wonderful, established woodlands and parklands with grazing horses in abundance, which you can see from many of the cottages’ windows. It is also home to the Beverley Polo Club with two polo pitches, fabulous full-size arena and stabling for up to 60 horses. You just might be able to catch a polo match during your stay! You can even bring your horse on holiday with you, subject to availability at our Horse Hotel! These delightful, detached holiday properties (refs UKC458 and W44279) provide tastefully furnished bases from which to explore the area, or simply sit back and relax.
There are superb walks straight from the cottage doors. Within the estate you can walk around the picturesque horse exercise course or the cross country course, all within a couple of minutes of the cottages. Or if you are looking for a longer hike, the estate links to designated walks along the river bank that extend for miles. A must during your stay is a short stroll around the polo pitch to the fabulous country pub offering gorgeous local fare with a great garden for children or a suntrap spot by the river bank – no need to drive!
Beverley, 4 miles, is well known for its racecourse, minster and many boutiques and excellent coffee shops. The coast at Hornsea can be reached within 10 miles, with traditional amusements and promenade, and a wildlife centre at Hornsea Mere. York, a great place for a day out, is about an hour’s drive, and The Deep at Hull, one of the UK’s biggest aquariums, is about half an hour away. Beach 10 miles. Grade II Listed, Baker’s Cottage dates back to the 17th century and sits in the heart of the pretty village of Hotham near to Beverley, Market Weighton and Pocklington, the gateway to the Yorkshire Wolds. It’s a perfect base for families or a group of friends. The cottage can sleep up to six people and retains many of its original features. It’s ideally placed to explore the network of beautiful walks and miles of cycle routes.
The spacious hall with an original York stone flagged floor leads you to the large country-style kitchen/dining area, offering lovely views across the garden. The living room has deep sofas where you can relax and watch your favourite movie. To the front of the property is a double bedroom with lovely views of the pretty cottage garden. A shower room with WC lies in between the sitting room and bedroom. On the first floor, there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with a free-standing slipper bath and a separate shower. Further down the hall is the large master bedroom with its own dressing. With vaulted ceilings throughout, original wooden floors and hand-painted murals adorning the hallway, master bedroom walls, and bath, the upstairs of this cottage is truly unique. Baker’s Cottage offers gardens to the front and rear with a large patio area, ideal for enjoying an al fresco breakfast or relaxing in the afternoon sun. Within a short drive of the cottage is the market town of Market Weighton, or you can head for Beverley or Pocklington to shop for all your fresh food, explore the many independent shops or simply enjoy morning coffee and cake. There’s an abundance of restaurants in Beverley to meet every taste. Both Hull and York are within a short drive, where you can explore many museums, theatres and centuries of history. For those of you who enjoy horse racing, Beverley and York have excellent courses providing flat racing. The North Cave Wetlands Nature Reserve is only a mile away and is a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust site with a fantastic array of wetland and migrating birds, as well as lots of other wildlife.
