The entrance opens into the dining area which offers great views of the surrounding woodland as you enjoy a well-prepared meal. Beyond that is the living area which is the ideal spot to relax in front of the fire or TV, after an enjoyable day’s walking, cycling, climbing, or just sightseeing in the Lakes. The kitchen is well appointed with all the amenities you need to prepare anything from a pack lunch to a romantic meal for two. The bedroom is a good size with a king-size bed and has an ensuite with walk in shower, to gently massage those aching muscles after a busy day.
Two of the most popular towns in the Lake District, Bowness, a 35-minute walk, and Windermere, a 20-minute walk, both offer a great selection of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs to enjoy. In addition, Bowness has some great local attractions such as The World Of Beatrix Potter attraction, The Jetty Museum and cinema.
It is also one of the access points for ferry rides across Lake Windermere. Slightly further afield there is Ambleside and within the local area there is a whole host of outdoor activities to choose from including sailing, paddle boarding, tree top trek, climbing, archery, and plenty more. For those who prefer fewer active pursuits, you are spoilt for choice with National Trust locations, Garden Centres, Museums, Steam railways and animal parks. There is truly something for everyone close to this location and we haven’t even mentioned the famous scenery and views all over the Lake District.

Christopher’s Cottage has undergone a full renovation in 2022 bringing it completely up to date with air source underfloor heating, new bathroom and fully equipped kitchen, with a cosy romantic snug on the ground floor. The first floor has a large kingsize bedroom, en-suite toilet and lovely views onto the garden at the front of the property, where you will find outdoor seating and outside cast iron bathtub to unwind after those long walks away under the Cumbria stars.

Historic Appleby enjoys a reputation as one of the prettiest market towns. Sitting alongside the River Eden, it offers something for everyone – history buffs will enjoy the architecture evident in the town’s buildings, and Appleby Castle, open for visits, outside theatre events, comedy nights and outdoor cinema events throughout the year. Shops, cafés and restaurants offer local crafts alongside local cheeses! Look out for High Cross on Boroughgate, which is the site of the original cheese market. For train enthusiasts, or those looking to enjoy a journey through the stunning surrounding areas, Appleby is on the Settle to Carlisle scenic railway line. Steam trains run weekly through the summer months and the Flying Scotsman passes through on the line from time to time – a sight to behold.

Besides the immediate area, the North Pennines and Alston are just minutes from the cottage. The spectacular route up Hartside Pass reaches a summit of almost 2000 feet with wonderful views of the Lake District, Pennine fells and down onto the Eden Valley. The Yorkshire Dales and High Force in Teesdale are also a short drive away. The Northern Lake District including Ullswater and the villages dotting the lake shores, are well worth a visit and just half an hour’s drive away, with popular market towns of Keswick and Penrith offering something for everyone and a fabulous mix of retailers, cafés, traditional inns and international restaurants.

This end-terrace property has a real traditional cottage feel, with an open-plan living space which is the hub of the home. The ancient town of Dalton-in-Furness lies in a narrow valley on the part of Furness which extends deep into Morecambe Bay. Within easy reach of the town is the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, which is very much concerned with conservation. The charming town of Ulverston is about a 10-minute drive, and is the birthplace of Stan Laurel, and home to the world’s only Laurel and Hardy Museum. There is also the Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre, International Centre for Modern Buddhism and Temple for World Peace. A very popular day trip is the steam train from Haverthwaite up to Windermere on the Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Well worth a visit is Lakeland Motor Museum. Dalton railway station gives easy access to Barrow-in-Furness, or in the southerly direction, to Grange-over-Sands, Arnside and Lancaster. To the north of Dalton-in-Furness is the spectacular Duddon Estuary and Duddon Valley, with Cartmel and Grizedale Forest within easy reach. Beach 3 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The picturesque village has lovely scenery and walks available from your doorstep. Just 2 miles away you’ll find Hawkshead which offers a range of pubs, shops and plenty of independent cafés and coffee shops. You’re also just a short drive from the Windermere car ferry, which in just 10-minutes takes you across the lake to Bowness-on-Windermere with an abundance of shops, bars, restaurants. Take the steamers across Windermere Lake to Ambleside in the north and Lakeside in the south, which connects to The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. You’re close to Grizedale Forest with lots of woodland walks, cycle routes and even a high rope adventure course, great fun for adults! For golfers, you can access Windermere Golf Course in a short drive as well as Esthwaite Trout Fishery which is just 1 mile away. If you love the outdoors, there’s plenty of hiking and climbing routes all around including both on and off road cycle ways, whatever you want to do on holiday, Garth Court is a great place to start. Allt Maen, its name derived from the Celtic ‘Old Man of Coniston’, a mountain visible from the properties, is on the first floor and Wetherlam occupies the ground floor. Coniston Water is just 2 miles, Windermere 8 miles, Blawith Fells are a short drive and Grizedale Forest tracks invite mountain bikers, whilst nearby stately homes and gardens offer more sedate pleasures. Shops are 3 miles away and a friendly pub (dogs welcome) is a short stroll.

Situated down a small lane and only a two-minute walk from the centre of Keswick this charming cottage, originally part of a 19th-century coach house, is centrally located to explore The Lakes. The walking and wildlife from the doorstep is excellent. There is a stunning walk along the lakeside or for the more ambitious hiker Helvellyn beckons. The popular, bustling market town of Keswick with an abundance of interesting shops, tourist attractions and eateries is five miles. Thirlmere connects to the south Lakes via a spectacular mountain pass, where you can enjoy the many opportunities that Grasmere, Windermere and Ambleside have to offer. An excellent central location for exploring the Lake District.

They are conveniently situated just off the A595 Cockermouth to Carlisle road, making it an excellent choice for guests wanting easy access to the Northern Lake District and the Scottish Borders.
