Inspired by the surrounding landscape, Violet Cottage has a seaside theme and plenty of charm. There are three comfortable bedrooms all with sea views, one room hosts a kingsize bed, one with a double bed and the other offers a bunk bed. French doors from the living room lead onto a delightful terrace, with views over the sea grass to the pebbly beach. For the winter months, enjoy the warmth of the wood burner in the living room, plan the next day’s activities and relax in peace and quiet.
The local pub is a stone’s throw away which offers a wide range of local ales. Take a trip back in time with Walmer and Deal Castles, explore the promenade of Deal and take a day trip to France from Dover. Coastguard Cottage is in a unique location on the coast of Swalecliffe near Whitstable. Boasting sea views from each room, the property has bi-fold doors opening onto decking where guests can enjoy sitting on the decking and overlooking the Thames Estuary. Herne Bay itself is loved by visitors for its long stretches of beach, cycle routes, iconic pier, independent eateries, and boutique shops as well as its entertainment, concert hall, cinema, and arcades. Its legacy lingers in the Victorian bandstand, fragrant seafront gardens and distinctive 80ft Clock Tower. The Reculver Towers and Roman Fort can be seen to the east where 12th-century church towers sit amid the remains of a Roman ’Saxon Shore’ fort.

Herne Bay station is just moments from the property giving easy access to the surrounding coastal towns by rail and a direct route to London Victoria and Kings Cross, Dreamland Margate, Broadstairs and Whitstable. "Dating back to 1652, these two properties were originally part of a working dairy farm and offer a wonderful location, next to the owners’ home, in the coastal town of Margate. Farm Cottage (ref W43578) is a quaint, semi-detached, converted farmhouse comfortably sleeping 4 guests, and has been renovated to a good standard. Guests can enjoy access to a good-sized garden, an open plan living/dining room and a well-equipped kitchen, as well as a small chalk cave which is characteristic of the area and which the owners are happy to show guests around.
Stable Cottage (ref UKC3922), complete with its stable door, adjoins the owners’ converted farmhouse and is ideally suited to couples. This holiday cottage was renovated in 2018 to a good standard, retaining some original features including an exposed wall in the living room. Guests can enjoy access to a garden at the front of the cottage.
A short stroll from the properties will take you into the coastal town of Margate where local attractions include the famous Turner Gallery, Margate Old Town and Shell Grotto. Catch a band at the Winter Gardens or hop on a retro ride at Dreamland. Take a boat trip and spot seals on the sandbanks, or cycle the Viking Coastal Trail, one of the most attractive leisure cycle routes in Kent, covering 27 miles. A short drive will take you to Broadstairs, home to Viking Bay, with several fantastic walks, or why not visit Ramsgate Royal Harbour?
Broadstairs Folk Week takes place on the first weekend in August every year and it is only a 20-minute bus ride from the cottage.
