Built in the late 1700s, Hobland Barn had a number of uses, such as for cattle, grain and potato storage. It was renovated as a family home with light, space and the Norfolk countryside views at the heart of its design. Part of a cluster of similar conversions, Hobland Barn looks over sprawling fields, which can be viewed from the first floor balcony. Whilst it is the perfect rural location, the pretty seaside town of Gorleston-on-Sea is only 3 miles away, and if the traditional seaside experience is on your list of ‘to-dos’, Great Yarmouth is a little further, at 6 miles away, with attractions, rides and ice cream galore for all the family. Hobland Barn is ideally placed to explore the National Park further inland. You can take out a day boat, hire bikes or simply walk many miles along unspoilt water’s edge, taking in the nature, wildlife and simply just enjoying this unique landscape. History abounds in Norfolk and a trip to the fine city of Norwich must be on your list of things to see and do. Otters is a terraced house located in the heart of Wroxham, which is known as the ’Capital of the Broads’. The property is situated next to the famous Wroxham Bridge and is an upside down house which has been furnished to provide excellent holiday accommodation for any time of year. This is a perfect location for exploring The Broads, with day boat and canoe hire close by, and is within easy walking distance to a selection of cafes, restaurants and shops. Or simply just sit and watch the boating activity go by. For children, BeWILDerwood at Horning is an outdoor adventure park with zip wires and jungle bridges, and is a truly memorable day out. Wroxham Barns and craft centre is just short drive away or head to the lovely sandy beaches on offer in the area. Visit Cromer, with its traditional seaside pier, or Happisburgh, with its iconic red and white lighthouse and to see the grey seals. The best beach is Horsey Beach where, during the winter months, hundreds of seal pups can be seen. There are National Trust properties in the region, including Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall and Gardens, Sheringham Park and Horsey Wind Pump. Spend a day in the fine city of Norwich, 8 miles away, with its cathedrals, museums, theatres and array of excellent shops and cafes, Cycling, canoeing, fishing, walking and golf are all available locally. There’s a narrow gauge railway that runs past the pitch and putt golf course down to the pine woods and wide sandy beach with its candy-coloured beach huts. From the quay itself, there are boat trips to fish or see the seals, and you may also see people “gillying”, the local term for catching crabs by hand line. The harbour is also home to Wells’ water ski club, sailing club and various other nautical pursuits. For a change of pace, hop in your car and head to Hunstanton, known by the locals as “Sunny Hunny”, but make sure you allow the time to explore the pretty coastal villages along the way. There are breathtaking marshes and pristine beaches scattered along the coastline that must be seen to be believed.

History buffs will be spoilt for choice with the medieval city of Norwich, with its fine Norman Castle, the Hanseatic Old Quarter of Kings Lynn, Royal Sandringham, Holkham Hall and the Blickling Estate all within easy reach. Equally, lovers of nature and birds will find a wide range of habitats from which to view the local wildlife. Wells-next-the-Sea, 8 miles, offers an excellent sandy beach with colourful beach huts, a small shopping town centre with many inns and restaurants, and a picturesque fishing harbour - popular for fresh shell fish. Further along the coast is Brancaster for an uncrowded sandy beach and golf course. Brancaster Staithe provides a popular venue for sailing and boating enthusiasts.

The traditional seaside towns of Heacham and Hunstanton offer an array of activities for all ages. Many places of historical interest and stately homes are within the surrounding area. 20 minutes’ drive away is the historical town of Kings Lynn for shopping, market place, restaurants, inns and theatre, and also Norwich city for excellent shopping, castle museum, cathedral, theatre, market place, restaurants and inns.
