Extensive sea and inland views can be admired from this Grade II listed former lighthouse keeper’s cottage. Built in 1791, it stands in a superb coastal location adjoining Happisburgh’s working lighthouse and within a short drive of the Norfolk Broads. It offers well-equipped, comfortable holiday accommodation; the cellar has been converted into a den for children. The lighthouse is open to the public on some Sundays in high season, when visitors can enjoy the fantastic view from the top. Private tours can be arranged at a cost with the trust. The high street boasts a range of artisan and boutique shops that are perfect for pottering and the town attracts lots of Christmas shoppers due to its range of unique goods and its pretty Christmas lights display. Venture further however and you can be at the stunning North Norfolk coastline in minutes. Head east or west to find a string of pretty seaside villages and towns with a range of habitats including marshes, quays and sand and shingle beaches. Visit Cromer and the historic pier or Blakeney for a spot of crabbing or a trip to see the seals (seasonal). History buffs will enjoy a trip on North Norfolk railway, a visit to the Blickling Hall Estate and a trip around the Thursford and Muckleburgh collections. Nature lovers will flock to nearby Cley Marsh and Pensthorpe Nature Reserve. And, you can even be in the heart of the Norfolk Broads in just 40 minutes. There are plenty of footpaths leading through the forest with distances ranging from one to five miles, taking you through the varying habitats of the park. Along with the ability to access the North Norfolk coastal path leading to Cromer or Hunstanton, within 40 minutes’ walk or 5 minutes’ drive.

Just a gentle walk away is the North Norfolk Railway Poppy Line, which runs between Holt and Sheringham. This famous steam railway is often used in films and television and has been described as one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the British Isles.

Just over a mile away (a 25-minute walk) is the pretty coastal village of Weybourne with its shingle beach. Here you will find the local deli where you can get fresh bread, milk, cheeses, meats, postcards and even some small essentials like wine and plasters. There is a local pub that has a fantastic selection of gins (if that is your tipple of choice) and home-made food. The pub does get busy in season so best to book.

A little closer (a 15-minute walk) is the shop and pub/restaurant that are open to the general public as part of the Kelling Heath Holiday Park. Here there are also leisure facilities that are available on a pay as you go basis.

Weybourne fishing resort is situated on the Norfolk coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. To the east lies the bustling coastal market towns of Sheringham and Cromer, and to the west there is a string of picturesque villages leading to Wells-next-the-Sea with its picturesque quay. Add in numerous National Trust sites, stately homes, bird watching opportunities galore and great cycling routes and you will see why this part of the coastline remains so popular with guests who return again and again. Nestled within the gorgeous coastal village of Holme-next-the-Sea yet tucked away down a quiet lane, character property Cricketer’s Cottage is the type of house that seems to give you a big hug when you arrive. Sitting between Thornham and Hunstanton, the pretty village of Holme-Next-The-Sea has a traditional pub, a stunning nature reserve and beach, perfect for family picnics and birdwatching on the marshes. Cricketer’s Cottage is just 6 miles from Wild Ken Hill which is where Spring Watch is filmed! There is plenty to explore in the local area. Brancaster is just 8 miles away, a pretty, coastal village with great sailing, and boats to the nature reserve. The area is also littered with sites of historical significance including the Holkham, Houghton and Sandringham Estates, Castle Acre and Castle Rising, Peckover House and the Hanseatic Quarter of Old Kings Lynn.
Nature lovers will find all sorts of visitors right there in the garden and surrounding area and RSPB Titchwell Marshes and Snettisham close by too. Wells is also within easy reach- a seaside town with a beautiful beach. At Snettisham Deer Farm you can bottle feed lambs (at the right time of year), see farm animals, and go on a deer safari. Watatunga Wildlife Reserve in Watlington offers a guided safari by a golf buggy! Take a trip to Sandringham House, the magnificent holiday home of the Royal Family since 1861, just a short drive away. Or head further inland, within an hour’s drive, to the Norfolk Broads National Park and the medieval city of Norwich, with an abundance of shops, fine dining, and a castle museum to explore. Blakeney Quay and Morston Harbour located further along the north Norfolk coast offer seal watching boat trips and pubs and restaurants serving superb locally caught seafood.

The pleasant village of Snettisham offers something for everyone, whatever your age and whatever the weather! The beach here is enormous – wide and spacious. It lies almost 2 miles from the village centre and is a mixture of stone and sand, with a grassy area behind. At the southern end of Snettisham beach is the well-known RSPB Nature Reserve. Here you will find a number of hides you can use without having to be a member. From the hides you can enjoy one of the country’s greatest wildlife spectacles. This is especially so when the rising high spring tides force thousands of birds to leave the mudflats where they are feeding and settle close to the hides.
Snettisham is a walker’s haven, particularly for dog owners, with the village having miles of public footpaths plus the ancient Peddars Way is found nearby. A firm favourite for children is Snettisham Park Farm, which is a working farm that offers hands-on activities. Along with the traditional farm animals, deer and llamas can be found here, plus tractor and trailer rides, making this a family fun day out. Again aimed at children, the traditional seaside town of Hunstanton with its sandy beach, promenade, sea-life centre and fairground rides is just a mere 5 miles away. For adults you will be spoilt for choice of where to visit first, with so many fantastic places to explore locally, such as the Royal Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall, Norfolk Lavender and Houghton Hall to name just a few.
