    Eldin Hall Cottages are set in a peaceful area and have been added more recently to the restored old Victorian waterworks. The four cottages have their own enclosed decked patios with garden furniture, and The Gatehouse has its own enclosed private lawned garden. There is also a shared garden with a fantastic play area for the children. The owners, who just 10 minutes away, will be there to greet guests whenever possible, and are available any time to provide information and assistance when it is required.
    Situated between Cayton and Cayton Bay, the cottages are an ideal base to visit the east coast, North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. The beach at Cayton Bay is less than a mile away (2 miles by road) and just a little further up the coast is the popular seaside town of Scarborough. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are just a short drive away. The walks along the clifftops are spectacular and form part of the Cleveland Way walk. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs attracts visitors from worldwide and is just a short drive from the cottages. Here you can see puffins, kittiwakes and lots of other migrating seabirds. Not to be missed during your stay (as it’s always voted as one of the top ten cities to visit) is the wonderful city of York which is less than an hour away by car, or the train is direct from Scarborough.     Situated just a mile outside the famous and charming village of Goathland, Tilly’s Cottage has the best of both worlds; easy access to all the area has to offer and peace and quiet however busy it is in the village. The owner has also provided use of two Pendleton electric bikes for guests use - a fun and easier way to explore Goathland, Darnholme, Beck Hole, the ’Roman Road’ and perhaps even Egton.
    Tilly’s Cottage is part of Thornhill Farm, a working moorland sheep farm, which is known to go back to at least the early 17th century when it was sold by James I. Tilly’s Cottage itself was part of the Victorian development in the 1860s and retains many of its original features like the low beams, open range fire and ’coffin drop’. This traditionally decorated, peaceful, homely and deceptively large cottage is surrounded by fields and open moorland and is both a wonderful place to relax and a great base for further explorations. One of the first floor bedrooms and the second floor bedroom each have wonderful moorland views.
    Known to millions as ’Aidensfield’ from the Yorkshire television series ’Heartbeat’, there is much to recognise in Goathland, and Tilly’s Cottage itself was used many times in the filming. Beyond Goathland lies Whitby with its beautiful harbour, abbey ruins, cliff-top golf, fish and chips and story of Dracula. Both Whitby and the charming town of Pickering can be reached by the steam train from Goathland, which runs alongside one of Thornhill’s fields, enabling guest to take unique close-up pictures of the trains steaming along. Picturesk is a first floor apartment where you can spend many an hour sat at the window watching the boats go by, or seeing the children learn to canoe. The communal grounds have some lovely sitting-out areas, as well as a small playground for the little ones. It’s not far to walk into the centre along the side of the estuary, you’ll find that you hardly need the car as it’s a perfect spot to get to all the amenities and see the sights of Whitby.
    Walk up the famous Whitby Abbey, with its 199 steps to get to the top. You will see many children counting them as they take each step. The cobbled streets are full of little shops, especially the Whitby Jet jewellery shops. This black gemstone became very popular when Queen Victoria wore it when mourning for her husband. The black jewellery also attracts goths when they hold their famous weekend in Whitby.
    The North Yorkshire Moors are on the doorstep, and the Cleveland Way passes through Whitby, so this is a great base for ramblers or hardened walkers. There’s so much to see and do, but if you do want to step outside of Whitby, why not go down the coast to Scarborough, or inland to the town of Pickering, famous for its steam railway. For all ages, Whitby is the perfect holiday spot.

    For the adults there are some excellent restaurants within walking distance of the properties, and there’s the Stephen Joseph Theatre, home to most of Sir Alan Aykbourn’s world premiere plays. The largest open air theatre in Europe is here in Scarborough with fantastic international acts throughout the summer. Scarborough Spa provides excellent entertainment throughout the year and the Spa Orchestra perform on the scenic sun terrace in the summer. Scarborough forms part of the Cleveland Way so for those walkers amongst you there are some fantastic walks right on your doorstep. The smaller resorts of Filey and Flamborough Head are just down the coast as well as the RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton where you will find puffins in their natural habitat. Heading north there’s Whitby with its busy working harbour and cobbled streets full of charm and character, it’s definitely worth a visit. Yorkshire is famous for its stately homes and Castle Howard, Sledmere House, Burton Agnes Hall and Sewerby Hall are all within a short distance. Beach 400 yards.
