Dog Friendly Lodges North Yorkshire

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

This delightful holiday home, adjoining the owner’s home, provides, rural, romantic accommodation in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. The layout is set out over the ground floor, with a first floor bedroom. Guests are greeted with a modern kitchen on entering through the front door. This is a well-equipped space that is ideal for preparing meals when on your escape. Through the inner hallway that offers storage and access to the bathroom, you will reach the cosy living/dining room, which is a welcome haven after a hard day’s walking or exploring the east coast. The French doors in the living room open out on the patio, perfect to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. The bedroom is on the first floor and offers a Velux window suitable to enjoy the views from. Outside you will also have private use of a hot tub to relax in, and the owner has thoughtfully provided bath robes and slippers for the hot tub, and complementary toiletries. With a wood burner in the living area, you are sure to stay warm and cosy.
Situated on the edge of a working farm, the cottage is surrounded by excellent footpaths, along with a private rhododendron lined drive leading to a hotel where you may enjoy lunch, afternoon tea and evening meals. Nearby Staithes, a short drive away, boasts cobbled streets, and is an ideal place to visit and enjoy the pretty east coastline. Beach 4 miles. Shops and pub 1½ miles, restaurant 400 yards.

The open plan living/dining room is very spacious and benefits from vaulted ceilings. With the benefit of a wood burner, whether it be day or night, summer or winter, everyone can come together and enjoy quality time. The dining area has table seating for eight guests. To the rear of the bungalow the large conservatory has underfloor heating, deep-filled, comfy sofas and a 42" Smart TV which provides an additional space for relaxation. This room enjoys views over th garden, hot tub and countryside beyond.

A large patio also leads down from the open plan living area and there is also an undercover dining area where you can enjoy an early morning breakfast or an alfresco evening meal no matter what the weather! The hot tub sits to one side and is raised slightly to provide you with far reaching views, just perfect for a relaxing soak after a day exploring the local area.
A gentle stroll will bring you to the local village pub where you can mix with the locals whilst enjoying a relaxing drink. A little further afield is the historic walled City of York which offers over two thousand years of history and the cathedral town of Selby. The stunning East Riding coastline is also just under an hour’s drive away. Tamarisk is the perfect holiday home for your family gathering and will be perfect no matter what the time of year.

Carr House farmhouse is set on a working farm, but only minutes away from the attractions of Scarborough and only 1½ miles from the well known surfing beach at Cayton Bay, which also welcomes dog walkers throughout the year. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the large landscaped gardens with a summerhouse, apple trees and barbecue, with a perimeter fence making it ideal for both children and pets. This detached farmhouse is ideal for touring the North Yorkshire coast, from Whitby in the north to Bridlington in the south. A short journey inland takes you to the North York Moors, ’Heartbeat’ Country and Pickering for the steam railway, whilst York for its historic attractions is less than an hour away.

For activities nearby there is Dalby Forest for cycling and tree climbing, Wykeham Lakes for fishing, or the many beaches which offer the chance to just relax, sail, surf, sunbathe, paddle, and build sandcastles. Scarborough is a vibrant seaside resort with lots of family attractions, such as the waterpark, Sealife Centre and crazy golf, as well as a funfair, ice-cream parlours, amusements, and donkey rides. It also boasts superb live entertainment at the Open Air Theatre, with major acts booked each summer, and shows at the Scarborough Spa and the renowned Stephen Joseph Theatre. Beach 2 miles. Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. Thornlea is one of a kind, this characterful spacious property is beautifully furnished with a fun splash of colour. You are perched up on the cliff top, just a short walk down to the golden sandy beach stretching all the way to neighbouring Sandsend. At the rear of the property you have an enclosed garden, bursting with colour through the spring and summer months, with both the dining room and the sun room having glass doors opening out into this welcoming outdoor space. The dining room is a great size for enjoying social meals all together, with the well-equipped kitchen adjoining. Take a moment to explore the Gothic ruins and discover the history behind the abbey, said to have been the home of the first known English poet and an inspiration for Bram Stoker’s famous novel ’Dracula’. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover. Stardust is an exceptional seafront property, it is spacious and beautifully furnished throughout, ensuring you have an idyllic stay by the coast. With offroad parking on the driveway at the front of the property, steps lead you up to the front door where you have elevated views over the sea. Stepping inside the hallway leads you to the spacious modern kitchen, which is open plan with the dining area. The dining table is a great size for enjoying meals together, and with the large leather sofa in this room it’s the perfect social space where you can all plan the days ahead whilst cooking and prepping. Glass doors open out into the large lawned enclosed garden, complete with a patio where you can soak up the sun. On the ground floor you also have three bedrooms, the two at the front are both generous in size with desirable sea views. One bedroom is a twin the other is a king. The third bedroom which has a double bed at the rear of the property boasts a walk-in wardrobe as well as an en-suite shower room. Upstairs on the first floor there is the living room, with sofas and armchairs beneath the vaulted ceiling. There are two single sofa beds in this room which can be used by additional children if your own bedding is brought with you. The 1st floor bathroom has both a slipper bath and a cubicle shower, giving you the option of a refreshing shower or an indulgent soak.
You are within easy walking distance of the many attractions and sights this gorgeous coastal town boasts. This town was inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and there is a dark side of Whitby with ghost walks to both fright and delight. The wonderful Goth Festival takes place twice a year and keep an eye out for other festivals such as the Folk Festival, Whitby Regatta and the Steam Punk Weekend. With many award-winning restaurants, olde worlde pubs and tea rooms, a colourful harbour and a glorious long golden beach, this is a great place for all interests and ages. The unspoilt fishing village of Staithes, 10 miles away, nestles into the cliffs of the Heritage Coast and is just one of the nearby hidden beaches to explore. Other hidden gems include Runswick Bay, Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Robin Hood’s Bay, each has its own story of pirates and smuggling to tell.
There are an abundance of walks and cycle tracks for ramblers and cyclists to take advantage of, including the Cleveland Way along the cliff tops, as well as the Esk Valley and its stunning scenery, best enjoyed from the windows of the steam train that travels right into the heart of the North York Moors National Park from Whitby to Pickering. Other attractions for a day out include Flamingo Land, Dalby Forest as well as Alpamare waterpark and spa. The medieval walled city of York is just an hour away and is well worth a visit.
