Blue Caps is a beautiful detached property nestled in a peaceful cul-de-sac within the heart of the welcoming coastal village of Beadnell. Furnished and equipped to a very good standard this deceptively spacious cottage oozes the epitome of style. Beadnell is a popular holiday destination and offers local facilities including family and pet friendly pubs serving good food all within a gentle stroll from Blue Caps. A small sandy bay speckled with rocky outcrops is close by and leads to a long sandy beach that stretches to Seahouses, 2 miles north. The wide expanse of golden sandy beach Beadnell Bay is renowned for is a mere 10-minutes walk: a popular destination for water-sports enthusiasts, including sailing, sea kayaking, wind surfing and scuba diving. Beadnell Bay can truly be described as the jewel in Northumberland’s seaside crown; idyllic for a romantic barefoot stroll in the sand to listen to the waves lap against the shoreline and inhale the invigorating sea air. Two miles up the coastline is the traditional fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands – famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony – depart regularly from its harbour. Here there are several charming tea rooms, quaint pubs and shops with horse-riding; fishing and golf on the links close by being only a sample of the many amenities available in this popular location. A further 3 miles up the coastline is the picturesque village of Bamburgh, which lies snuggled in the shadow of its majestic fortress and commands the power and presence of the seasoned television set it regularly becomes. Holy Island – the birthplace of Christianity and site of Lindisfarne Castle – can be seen from the unspoilt golden, sandy beach. Just a few miles inland is the bustling market town of Alnwick, with its own dramatic castle (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy!). Visitors will enjoy a trip to Alnwick Garden – a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden including the Grand Cascade waterfall and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe! These two lodges, each with a hot tub on the decking, offer differently-styled accommodation for groups of eight. Ideal for holidays or visiting the two large wedding venues nearby in Otterburn. Leafy Run (ref W44043) is a contemporary-style lodge with a hot tub and a peaceful decked area. Reiver’s Rest (ref UKC3402) was completely renovated in 2018, with a private hot tub on the raised south-facing decking and backs onto the woodland in the top corner of the park, with walks from the door. With a fully renovated restaurant on site, the lodges are less than a mile from the centre of the village of Otterburn, on the very edge of the Northumberland National Park. The park is just inside the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest in Europe, ideal for stargazers and astronomers. The village has a mill shop, and the shop/café sells local produce. A highly acclaimed wedding venue, Le Petit Château is easily accessed only a mile away and guests can enjoy staying in the lodges and having some downtime after the wedding. The long wooded drive up to the park sets the scene for your break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

A perfect base for couples or families to explore the Northumberland National Park, Kielder Forest, observatory, and the Scottish Borders. Situated 16 miles from the border counties, outdoor enthusiasts will love this location which is a favourite with walkers and adventure seekers. Bellingham is close by and has a choice of tea rooms, pubs, and village shops. A day trip to Alnwick, with its famous castle, and the Northumberland Heritage Coast, which is peppered with castles and beaches, make for fine days out. Slaley is a delightful Northumberland village, perfect for walkers, cyclists and ramblers as there are many routes to take that lead directly from The Old Chapel and out into the beautiful countryside. There are two pubs in the village so after a day exploring, just take a short stroll and you can enjoy a well earned meal or drink.
The market town of Hexham is only 6 miles away and offers a variety of shops and restaurants. Enjoy the historical sites the town has to offer at Hexham Abbey or the Old Gaol. A must visit is to the pretty little village of Corbridge, again only 6 miles away.
Whilst staying at The Old Chapel, the world famous Hadrian’s Wall is just a few miles away where you can take a walk along the path of the wall or explore one of the Roman Forts and settlements including Chesters, Vindolanda and Housesteads. The tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island, can be seen from the beach and is accessible via a causeway twice daily. A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Budle Bay is a bird sanctuary and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is home to thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers. The historic market town of Alnwick, with its own castle, offers many facilities, just a short drive inland. Set by the Northumberland Dark Sky National Park, the least populated of the UK National Parks with a diverse landscape attracting visitors from all over the world, steeped in history in this ancient unspoilt place. This beautiful unspoilt area is close to Kielder Forest and Water Park which is fantastic for water enthusiasts, mountain bikers, cyclists and walkers where days out with breathtaking scenery is a daily treat. Kielder Observatory is also worth a visit. The Scottish Carter Bar with easy access to the Scottish Borders is only 18 miles should you wish to venture into Scotland during your stay. The small village of Otterburn is 9 miles with a good outdoor shop based in Otterburn Mill.

Day trips over to the coast don’t take too long and make a lovely change where you can visit the beaches and castles of Northumberland, perhaps stopping at Alnwick Castle and explore the cobbled streets. In 2018, Northumberland was voted the best county to holiday by the British Tourism Awards. Wherever you go in and around the county you will be sure of a real ’Geordie’ welcome from the locals. This large village has a local butcher, supermarket and all the amenities you need during your stay. Cafés, pubs and restaurants are only a two-minute walk, so leave your car and walk out for an evening meal.

The moment you approach this beautifully converted chapel you know you’re in store for a lovely stay in a unique property. The large wooden chapel doors open to reveal a big hallway with a couple of rooms leading off to the sides. You come to a useful study room first which offers a little privacy or peace, and the opposite is a utility room providing the perfect place to dry and feed the dog, dry wet coats after a busy day’s walking in the Lakes. A second set of doors opens into an impressive, Instagram-worthy living space, with high vaulted ceilings, large leaded windows, and oak beams.
Once you catch your breath, you can take in the large kitchen with all the amenities and space required to cater anything from a simple sandwich to a family feast. The breakfast bar is the ideal place to watch the chef show off their skills whilst enjoying a glass of wine before moving the feast to the large dining table, where you could easily imagine you were starring in an epic movie during a medieval banquet.

The chapel is in the quiet Hamlet of Lowick Green near Spark Bridge but offers a great location to explore the scenery and attractions of the South Lakes area. There is a local pub The Farmers Arms. The iconic Coniston Water is just 10 miles away, offering a great location for wild swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking for those water enthusiasts. Alternatively, within a short drive, you can enjoy the world-famous Windermere water offering Lakeside towns to explore with an excellent range of independent shops, restaurants, pubs, or attractions like The World of Beatrix Potter. Take a lake cruise or hire your motorboat to enjoy this vast expanse of water. Other local attractions include the Motor Museum, Lakes Aquarium, escape rooms, high ropes, and outdoor adventures, right through to horse racing or Michelin star restaurants.
