Tuckenhay is only a 20-minute drive from the superb award-winning beach at Blackpool Sands and about 30 minutes from a surfing beach at Bantham, as well as some of the best natural beaches to be found anywhere in the UK.
There is also extensive access to the coastal footpath for walking and the wilderness that is Dartmoor for walking, climbing and riding.
This is a mecca for ramblers, bird-watchers, swimmers, surfers, horse riders, golfers and those interested in fishing, boating, sailing and windsurfing.
In addition, there are many historic NT houses to visit including Agatha Christies’s Greenway as well as a local vineyard.
Tuckenhay is only 5 miles inland from Dartmouth and 3 from the market town of Totnes. Village shop 3½ miles. Riverside inn and restaurant within walking distance.

Trearddur Bay, WalesThis detached bungalow plus additional annexe sleeping 2, only 20 yards from the sea, looks out over the rugged coastline of Trearddur Bay with magnificent views out to sea from the living room, dining room, master bedroom, large games room and the large balcony in the annexe. The games room in the annexe has a seating/TV area, table football and pool table (slate bed). The gardens to the front and rear are good sized and there is enough driveway space for a boat. There are many coastal walks around the area (including some on the doorstep). The beach only 20 yards from the property is great for rock pooling. Trearddur Bay’s Blue Flag beach is just around the corner (300 yards), as well as many water sports, including a diving school based in Trearddur Bay. There is also a golf course and stables close by, as well as sea fishing. Take a trip around the island and see many beaches and places of interest such as Plas Newydd and Beaumaris with its castle. There is the rugged terrain of Snowdonia to explore, and Ireland is not that far; why not take a day trip to Dublin. Barmouth, WalesSituated just 1¼ miles from the town of Barmouth with its range of pubs, cafés, individual shops and entertainment for all the family, this lovely detached bungalow enjoys an enviable location.
Enter through the entrance hall, leading to the large living area with its cosy wood burner and patio doors leading to the garden. The open plan kitchen/dining room is well-equipped with all the appliances you could need for a home-from-home stay, and also features a large dining table, great for socialising whilst the chef in the family prepares a hearty meal.
The utility room room has a washing machine, tumble dryer and rear entrance for those with muddy boots, and there is an outside tap where you can wash your wellies off. The property boasts a games room, with a TV, PlayStation 4, football table, chess and other board games. This room leads to a spacious bedroom sleeping three on a bunk bed (with a double on the bottom and a single on the top). On this floor there is also a kingsize bedroom. Upstairs on the first floor are three further bedrooms, two double (one with an en-suite) and a twin bedroom.
Outside, the large front garden with patio area offers a great place for some al fresco dining, along with a fabulous view. To the rear and side of the property are woodland grounds, some of which is steep and has steep drops – please supervise all children when playing in the woodland area. There are floodlights situated on each corner of the property so if you arrive in the dark you will be able to see all of the grounds.
There are lots of walks to be had in the local area. You can walk along Barmouth viaduct and down the delightful Mawddach Trail, which runs alongside the Mawddach Estuary, to the pretty town of Dolgellau along the course of an old railway line. From Barmouth you can explore the coastline by train too. Head north to Harlech with its magnificent castle, brooding over the village, whilst to the south is Llwyngwril, home to an annual Yarnbombing project. Further south is Tywyn, home of the Talyllyn Railway, where you can enjoy a ride on a narrow gauge steam train into the hills to Nant Gwernol. Above Barmouth is Dinas Oleu, the first part of land to be given to the National Trust and the views are well worth the steep climb. If you’re into adrenaline activities, be sure to visit Blaenau Ffestiniog and Zip World, home to the largest zip wire zone in the world, and Bounce Below, the only place you are ever likely to bounce on trampoline nets in an underground slate cavern the size of St Paul’s Cathedral. Within a few minutes walking distance is the local village pub serving fine cask ales and food. The market town of Belper stands at the heart of the Derwent Valley which was granted World Heritage Site status in 2001. The Derwent Valley Visitor Centre located within the Strutt’s North Mill gives visitors the chance to see inside the mill, cotton spinning, and discover more about the town’s history and the industrial revolution. Belper River Gardens offers visitors a tranquil setting to view the River Derwent and is located adjacent the Strutt’s historic North Mill and dominant red bricked East Mill. The industrial-inspired children’s play area and café are open all year, whilst in the summer months, rowing boat hire, and brass bands playing in the bandstand can be enjoyed.
Belper town centre, winner of the 2020 Champion High Street Award for England, boasts many independent shops, cafés, pubs, bars and a cinema.
Traditional towns of Ashbourne and Bakewell are nearby. The magnificent Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Pooles Cavern are just a few of the attractions, and Matlock Bath is only a 20-minute drive, well known for its riverside parade of fish and chip shops, arcades, cable cars and aquarium. To name a few of the many Blackpool attractions you have the famous Tower and Ballroom, Blackpool Zoo, the Pleasure Beach, Coral Island, the Sea Life Centre and Madame Tussauds.
