Approached via a private, uneven farm track (not suitable for cars with very low suspension), Lapwing Cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is adjacent to both the RSPB Valley Wetlands reserve and Tywyn Trewan Common. This is a delightful two-bedroom cottage, which has recently been converted from a former farm building, offering a charming base for exploring the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, an ideal holiday destination for walkers and ornithologists.
Lapwing Cottage, which is single storey, combines character with modern comfort and has been well-equipped for all your holiday needs. The rustic charm has been maintained with high ceilings and exposed beams, along with a wood burner for cosy winter nights, whilst the kitchen and bathroom give a luxurious modern feel.
With the benefit of dazzling sunrises and stunning sunsets coupled with uninterrupted views of Snowdonia, Lapwing Cottage offers a superb location and inspiration for photographer or artists. Those who wish to take advantage of Anglesey’s ‘Dark Skies’ will be amazed at the myriad of stars and galaxies visible on clear nights. Cerrig Cottages are also close to RAF Valley which will be of interest to aviation enthusiasts for the opportunity to wathc the trainee pilots, visiting military aircraft, plus the Red Arrows are frequent visitors.
Cerrig Cottages are an ideal ornithologists’ holiday location, with over 80 species of birds recorded on site by the wildlife-loving cottage owners including lapwing, curlew, golden plover, skylark, wheatear, stonechat, three species of owl, peregrine falcon, the charismatic chough and even a booming bittern. Stoats and lizards live in the garden walls, there are newts and dragonflies in the pond, and otters have recently been seen in Llyn Traffwll at the bottom of the paddock. As part of their wildlife recording, the cottage owners regularly undertake moth trapping sessions which guests are welcome to attend, rapidly becoming a favourite activity for the younger guests. New for 2021, cottage guests will have special access to the owners’ new 6.5 acre wildflower meadow, home to nesting skylarks and meadow pipits in the spring, followed by a myriad of butterflies and pollinators in the summer when the wildflowers are in full bloom.
The public footpath opposite Cerrig Cottages takes you to the RSPB Valley Wetlands Reserve to the north, or a 40-minute ramble to the south brings you to the seaside town of Rhosneigr with its vast beach, famous for sea sports, as well as a variety of bars and cafés. For those preferring to drive, Rhosneigr beach is less than 15 minutes away. Fishing and golf nearby. Traeth Cymyran takes 10 minutes by car and Rhoscolyn, the location of Prince William’s favourite Anglesey pub, takes just 15 minutes. Beach 2½ miles, shop 1 mile, pub 2 miles and restaurant 1½ miles.
