Grange Court is located in the quiet village of Cliburn in the beautiful Eden Valley, renowned not only for its scenery, wonderful walking, pretty sandstone villages and quiet country lanes which are ideal for cycling, but it is also perfectly placed between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
The village of Cliburn is typical of the many traditional Cumbrian villages that dot the Eden Valley. The surrounding farmland offers a pretty rural landscape away from the hustle and bustle of busier, more westerly Cumbria. Local villages offer hospitable inns, fabulous local bakeries, tea rooms and independent shops and craft outlets. This is an area enjoyed by walkers and cyclists, with the coast-to-coast path close by with routes for all abilities literally from the door.
A short run out offers the Northern Lake District with Lake Ullswater and the market towns of Keswick and Penrith well worth a visit. The North Pennines offers unspoilt landscapes and one of the country’s highest market towns. The views from the summit on the drive up are well worth the climb. The flying club at Kirkland and the fishing lakes at Blencarn are close by. The Cumbrian towns of Appleby and Kirkby Stephen are again within easy reach and offer a good mix for all including historic buildings, good selection of cafés, pubs and restaurants, and plenty of independent retailers.

Set in the hamlet of Guardhouse, close to Threlkeld and Keswick, just off the A66, it has a picturesque River Glenderamackin running through it, with peaceful countryside walks from your door. The area is famous for spotting red squirrels, fed by the locals; these indigenous creatures are often seen scurrying through the branches and in and around the garden. Adjacent is Keswick Golf Club, so if you fancy a round while you’re away, you couldn’t be much closer. The quaint hamlet of Scales with a local pub is just ¾ mile, a 20 minute walk along a signposted footpath across fields or 1½ miles by road. The village of Threlkeld with two well-known gastro pubs offer great food and local cask ales are a 1¾ mile walk along a scenic footpath by the river.
You are just 5 miles from the vibrant Lake District town of Keswick, which is brimming with great restaurants, pubs serving local craft ales, an excellent range of shopping experiences and some memorable tourist attractions. If you fancy something a bit different, then why not visit The Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the world’s largest pencil. Also within easy reach is Puzzling Place, which is full of mind-boggling optical illusions. It’s arguably one of the most unspoilt areas of the National Park with several small villages, towns and hamlets nearby, most with pubs, café’s, shops and excellent amenities. Nearby you’ll find several great days out and tourist attractions including Muncaster Castle, fun for all the family, ride the La’al Ratty on The Ravenglass and Eskdale railway. And of course, great walks around lakes, fells and a beach and sand dunes at nearby Drigg, 3 miles. Built into the hill to take advantage of the lake view, the house is moderately split level, with the huge master bedroom and luxurious en-suite bathroom being situated on the lower ground floor. There is plenty of storage provided for two guests with a wardrobe and drawers. The en-suite is huge and has been finished to a high specification. There are a further two double rooms both with en-suite shower rooms and a further room with a large zip and link bed and family bathroom directly across the hallway. There’s a large garage which can be utilised for cycle storage, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and such like. This property is perfectly placed to enjoy all that Bownesss-on-Windermere has to offer, including some of the Lake District’s finest attractions. Take a cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or across to Lakeside to enjoy a day at the aquarium, or hop on the steam train to Haverthwaite. Alternatively, try your hand at sailing and hire your own boat for a few hours. Paddle boarding is also a popular activity on the lake, so if you have one, then it’s certainly worth bringing it along. Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to Beatrix Potter World and the wonderful Art Deco Royalty Cinema. If you’re feeling energetic, so many walks can be found nearby including ’Orrest Head’ in Windermere, a relatively short walk offering spectacular views over Lake Windermere. Kendal has an abundance of well-known high street brands mixed with several independent retailers, coffee shops, cafés, delis, bars, and restaurants. With a weekly outdoor market selling anything from local crafts to clothing, as well as a permanent indoor market open daily, you’ll find plenty on your doorstep to fill your days. Visit Kendal Museum, dating back to 1796, which houses historical archaeology and the largest taxidermy collection in Europe. Abbott Hall is ideal for art lovers, set in picturesque grounds on the bank of the River Kent. Other historic sites include Kendal Castle dating back to the 12th century.

Kendal is an old market town famous for its annual Mountain Festival, the ultimate social gathering for all those who love the outdoors. It is is also famous for its mint cake, the first energy bar produced over 100 years ago. In just 20 minutes by car, you can reach Windermere, and in 30 minutes, Ambleside. These popular tourist hotspots are ideal for a day out to shop, eat, drink, and make the most of the natural beauty that Lake Windermere offers. There is also a regular bus service to Windermere, Ambleside, and Keswick from the bus top in town. A 30-minute drive will also take you to the Yorkshire Dales. The waterfall trail and caves at Ingleton are extremely popular tourist spots particularly for those who love the outdoors. There’s so much to see and do in this area you will be spoilt for choice.

The French doors lead out to a patio area with rattan outside furniture and a firepit (initial logs included), and a large garden for those summer months with further decking and outside rattan furniture. Silecroft is a quiet peaceful idyllic village with a lovely pub; shops and supermarkets are available at Millom which is around 4 miles away. Haverigg is three miles which has a water ski centre and bar, further along from here is RSPB Nature reserve at Hodbarrow for spotting breeding terns, ringed plovers, redshanks and oystercatchers. If you enjoy beach walks there is fabulous safe sandy beach within ½ mile from the cottage, a beautiful place to watch the stunning sunsets. Silecroft also offers a splendid well maintained 9 hole links golf course with super views of the beach and Black Combe, they also offer Foot golf, visitors are always welcome to enjoy this coastal golf course. Other local attractions include Mullthwaite Green riding centre at the top of the road for hacks,beach rides or lessons. If you fancy a larger horse perhaps try the empowering Cumbrian Heavy Horses, where you can trek over the hills on one of those large, magnificent creatures or again a beach ride on Silecroft beach. Alternatively for a gentler pace -how about a leisurely walk up Black Combe to capture the spectacular views of the western Lakes coastline aswell as on a good day IOM, Wales and Scotland.
A 22 minute drive finds you at Waste Water with its impressive screes or in the other direction 30-minute drive finds you at the impressive Coniston Water or a little further on and you are at the water’s edge of Lake Windermere. If you fancy a steam train ride why not try the local "Ratty" in the stunning Eskdale valley which offers great local pubs which offer food and refreshment. A bit of History would be the impressive Muncaster Castle which entertains guests with mesmerizing "birds of prey" displays and gorgeous garden walks. Being not too far from the A6, the rest of the Lake District including Bowness and Windermere are a mere 30 minutes’ drive away and the Yorkshire Dales, with the popular market town of Kirkby Lonsdale and the Water Fall Trail at Ingleton, is equidistant. Morecambe and Lancaster can also be reached within 30 minutes.
You are welcome to bring your dog. If your dog enjoys relaxing on a sofa, the owners ask that you provide your own dog blankets to place on the sofas to protect them. They would also ask that at the end of a muddy walk, you clean your dog (towels are provided) in the porch area before allowing the dog into the rest of the property.

As soon as you drive up to the front of this spectacular 18th-century house you get a sense of the time gone by, this unique property will wow you with its charming eccentric décor combined with period features but also modern comforts and amenities.
