Nestled close to the North Yorkshire Moors, Helmsley is well placed to enjoy all that Yorkshire has to offer including the famous steam train which departs from Pickering, 13 miles away, and transports visitors through stunning scenery to the ancient fishing port of Whitby. Flamingo Land and ‘Go Ape’ in Dalby Forest appeal to all ages and the spectacular coastline is within an hour’s drive. Days out can be enjoyed at the great houses of Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall. Masham, renowned for the Black Sheep Brewery, is 10 minutes’ drive and Richmond with its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre is also easily accessible. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine and dryer and an extra fridge just down the hallway along with a downstairs toilet. Upstairs there are three well-appointed rooms. The Master bedroom is a spacious room facing the front of the property with a king size bed and ensuite shower room. The next bedroom offers a four-poster Double bed, also with an ensuite shower, and the final bedroom is a twin-bedded room facing onto the rear garden. Bellerby is a village situated on the edge of The Yorkshire Dales National Park with a local pub serving a selection of real ales but currently no food and although there is no shop or amenities in the village the lovely market town of Leyburn is just over 1 mile away where an array of individual shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants are available. If you are looking to get out and stretch your legs, whether walking or cycling, there are abundant established public footpaths, bridleways, and cycle routes available in the local vicinity with spectacular scenery, open countryside, and pretty Yorkshire villages to explore.

Within easy driving distance there is an array of places to visit whether it’s the historic Castle Bolton, Richmond Castle, Jervaulx Abbey or the stunning Aysgarth Falls, there is something to suit everyone’s taste. The children will love Forbidden Corner with its quirky folly garden to explore or for the more adventurous why not visit the theme park, Lightwater Valley. The views over the surrounding countryside are superb, and there is excellent walking from the doorstep. Long distance footpaths along this area’s Heritage Coastline, and the Cleveland Way, offer perfect terrain for walkers and cyclists. The Ryedale Folk Museum at popular Hutton-Le-Hole, and the ruins of Rosedale Abbey are both worth a visit. For a day out, the North York Moors Railway runs steam train journeys between Grosmont and Pickering. Whitby, is easily reached, with miles of sandy beaches and an ancient abbey overlooking its harbour. Scarborough, and the coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sandsend are all within 20 miles. Horse racing at Thirsk, Wetherby and York, 25 miles. Pickering is a delight - old fashioned friendliness and an unhurried pace of life combine with charming old inns, 12th-century castle, museums, and remarkable medieval frescoes in the local church, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway takes visitors on a nostalgic journey through spectacular heather-clad moorland scenery to Grosmont. City of York 26 miles. Castle Howard, setting for TV’s Brideshead Revisited, Nunnington Hall (NT), Duncombe Park, and Rievaulx Abbey, are just a few treasures to discover. York offers the majestic minster, the fascinating Jorvik Viking Centre, the Castle Museum, the National Railway Museum, and excellent shopping facilities. On the east coast lie Scarborough and Bridlington, the picturesque fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay, and Staithes, and the fascinating old port of Whitby, with its Captain Cook connections, as well as 3 miles of sandy beaches and a colourful harbour, while the popular resort of Scarborough is 17 miles away offering excellent shopping and family entertainment. Pickering’s swimming-pool is just a 3 minute walk away, good cycling in Dalby Forest, as well as forest walks, fishing, pony trekking and golf.
The cottages have been converted with great flair by the owners, Mike and Sue Kitching, from the outbuildings of Hungate House. The delightful setting includes eight secluded gardens, courtyards and an orchard, as well as an enclosed play area with basket swing and wendy house for children. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful, and have been well kept, to ensure a relaxing environment. They are a real haven in a lovely Yorkshire town. Each cottage retains much character, with old stone arches, fireplaces and beams carefully retained. Immaculately maintained, warm, clean and superbly well-equipped with free high speed Wi-fi, these cottages are truly a ‘home from home’. No wonder so many visitors return time and again. The owners provide plenty of helpful information on the huge choice of places to visit, as well as menus from the local restaurants. Hungate is best summed up by a visitor who wrote, "There was nothing more we could have wished for in a holiday home. We loved the fire, the free logs and little touches such as fresh flowers – it felt like home. The children loved the freedom of the gardens and could not wait to get home from our excursions! We loved coming and going through the heavy black gate into an oasis in this nice town."
