A spacious cottage of contemporary and traditional design, Bertram Cottage has been refurbished throughout in 2019, with great attention to detail. This terraced cottage displays some exposed stone work, and is only a couple of minutes’ walk from a café and a very friendly village pub. The property is perfect for couples or a small family, and has a charming enclosed rear seating area. Dogs are welcome here, and there are plenty of walking paths nearby.
The pretty little village of Felton is only a few miles from Alnwick Castle and Gardens, where you can explore some history. Fans of Harry Potter will also discover interesting facts there, since the castle was used in some film scenes. Located midway between Alnwick and Morpeth, Bertram Cottage makes a great base from which to explore this county, which was voted the best county to holiday in at the 2018 British Tourism Awards.
Felton is very easily accessed from the A1 making touring around easy. A great golf course at Burgham Park is only 3 miles away, and the Heritage coast is nearby with miles of golden sandy beaches to explore. Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England, and all are easily reached from the cottage. The historic Roman town of Corbridge is only 40 miles away, where you can discover Hadrian’s Wall and see where the Romans lived. Morpeth is only a few miles distant and has a great collection of cafés, pubs and some lovely shops, as well as a riverside with rowing boats. The fishing harbour of Craster is only 15 miles, where you can treat yourself to famous Craster smoked kippers. A little further and you will come to Bamburgh and Holy Island (check tides). Amble is close by and has a fabulous Sunday market where you can find friendly locals and stock up on your fish or meat. After the market, you may like to stop at one of the lovely fish and chip shops or local restaurants, or even treat yourself to an ice cream at the shop along the way.

Alnham is a welcoming hamlet situated only 6 miles from the village of Whittingham, and 2 miles from Netherton. Only 9 miles away is the picture perfect village of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside Hills, sitting on the banks of the trout and salmon rich River Coquet. The Upper Coquet Valley is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists. It offers many facilities including tea rooms, pubs, shops and a riverside 18-hole golf course.
The National Trust property at Cragside is an interesting visitor attraction. The historic market town of Alnwick, where its dramatic castle is the ancestral home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy) is 14 miles east. The Alnwick Garden is also well worth a visit. The Heritage Coastline, recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is less than 20 miles east making Havannah Cottage an excellent base for exploring the many delights across north Northumberland, and also giving easy access to the Scottish Borders. Within easy access of the Northumberland coast, Etive Cottage is a charming, detached, single-storey holiday cottage with an enclosed garden area especially designed for pets. “Give your dogs the holiday they deserve” is the owner’s motto, and up to four well-behaved dogs are more than welcome at Etive. Set behind electric gates and with secure off-street parking, this property is located by the A1 which will take you northwards to the historic town of Berwick and beyond or southwards to historic Alnwick and its pretty neighbouring villages. Whilst the border-town of Berwick is known as ‘the last town in England’, Alnwick is famous for its ancient castles, gardens and cobbled streets. This part of the country draws visitors from around the world to savour its natural landscape and enjoy some of the many local outdoor activities available in the area. Historic locations also feature prominently as both Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne’s Holy Island are close by. Nature lovers will want to head out for the Farne Islands (accessible by seasonal boat-trip from the village of Seahouses) to see the colourful puffin colonies. Beach 9½ miles. Amber Waves is a tastefully furnished, semi-detached property, located in the traditional seaside village of Seahouses. The property underwent a total makeover in 2020 and offers stylish accommodation. From the entrance porch there is a generous living room with a cosy wood burner, leading to the kitchen/diner. A newly revamped shower room and utility area is also on the ground floor. There is a rear door from the kitchen to a fully enclosed patio garden where there are colourful beach huts offering ample storage for outdoor equipment, including bikes and diving equipment. There are three bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. The largest of the bedrooms has two sets of adult size bunk beds, making Amber Waves able to accommodate up to eight guests.
Seahouses offers a wide array of tearooms, restaurants, pubs and shops within walking distance of Amber Waves. Boat trips run from the nearby harbour to the Farne Islands, famous for their nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, dominated by its majestic castle, is only 2 miles north, where there is a wide expanse of golden, and often empty sandy beaches. The tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island, can be seen from the beach and is accessible via a causeway twice daily. A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Budle Bay is a bird sanctuary and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is home to thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers. The historic market town of Alnwick, with its own castle, offers many facilities, just a short drive inland. Warwick House is a lovely stone-built property in the small friendly village of Felton. This lovely house has been completely refurbished in 2021 with a lovely wood burner in the contemporary living room for cosying up for nights in on a cooler evening. This three-bedroom house with a lovely deep bath and large shower cubicle even has a small private sitting area to the rear which catches the sun, lovely for relaxing after a day out exploring. Only a very short walk is a popular village pub serving lovely food and an award-winning café so you can leave your car at the door and relax for an evening. Felton is located midway between Alnwick and Morpeth both lovely little towns with Alnwick the home to the Duke of Northumberland who lives in the famous castle featured in Downton Abbey and Harry Potter, with cobbled streets to explore and plenty of shops and tearooms it is a lovely day out. The village is easily accessed from the main A1 and Burgham Park Golf course is only 3 miles. Nearby the Heritage Coast AONB has golden sands and unspoilt beaches for you to explore all peppered with castles, ruins, and friendly little villages. The Northumbrian people will offer you a warm welcome and Warwickk House is a perfect location for your family holiday at any time of year. The attention to details throughout the rooms is evident as you arrive, and it really is a super place to stay with your friends or family. Craster which is famous for the smoked kippers and ruins of Dunstanborough Castle is only 15 miles, and inland a visit over to Hadrian’s Wall to discover some of the Old Roman Fort Museums is a lovely day trip for a change of scenery and only 40 miles away. It is said that "Postman Pats’s Greendale" is based on Wooler, being the gateway to the Cheviots. With a lovely sitting area to admire the view, the garden is an ideal place to relax and enjoy some down time. Wooler is on the edge of the National Park and is only 15 miles to Berwick on Tweed, with a beautiful beach and plenty of shops and history. All of the Scottish Borders are easily explored from here, with Coldstream only 14 miles and Kelso a little further. Edinburgh is only 90 minutes away.

Northumberland is such a diverse and friendly county with the beautiful Heritage Coast only 15 miles away to Bamburgh where you can follow the trail and take in the history making a lovely day trip. Holy Island Causeway is only 14 miles where the Lindisfarne Gospels were kept (check the tides). The location really is ideal for exploring in all directions of Northumberland and Scotland’s Border counties. Wooler itself has that country feeling while still having a market town buzz, combining home comforts with countryside. You can be hiking the Cheviot Hills in the morning and having a local beer on an evening. St Cuthbert’s Way walk passes via Wooler, a 62-mile route follows the ancient pilgrimage route, followed by St Cuthbert and many other monks between Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in north Northumberland. You come to a useful study room first which offers a little privacy or peace, and the opposite is a utility room providing the perfect place to dry and feed the dog, dry wet coats after a busy day’s walking in the Lakes. A second set of doors opens into an impressive, Instagram-worthy living space, with high vaulted ceilings, large leaded windows, and oak beams.
