This attractive cottage rests in the village of Gargrave, on the edge of Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is the location for the new TV series of All Creatures Great and Small and only 15 miles from Haworth famous for the Brontës and setting for the new and old Railway Children films. It is an ideal location with everything you need in the village, but the countryside right on your doorstep, with the Pennine Way and Settle Carlisle Railway both a short walk away and the river 100 yards away for picnics. Gateway to the Lakes but also close to well-known cities such as Blackpool, Manchester and Leeds (45 minutes’ by train). Links to London or Edinburgh with only one change of train.

Sycamore Cottage was originally a barn, dating from the heyday of the lead mining industry. It has been furnished to create a homely atmosphere and is the ideal property in which to kick back and relax. The charming garden is enclosed and provides a small lawn and a nice eating area, as well as a higher patio area with lovely views. Situated just a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of Grassington, it is on the Dales Way and so well placed for both long hill walking and easier riverside walking straight from the door.
Take advantage of Grassington’s wide selection of pubs, restaurants and cafés, together with interesting independent shops, or in the local town hall, you can play snooker or badminton. A little further afield lies the bustling market town of Skipton, where you can enjoy canal cruises, golf, or the indoor swimming pool. Although there are no great views from inside the property, the secluded and cosy interior, large communal kitchen, and great village location with parking for two cars, more than compensates. Perfectly located right in the heart of the popular village of Middleham in beautiful Wensleydale, Barbican Cottage is the perfect location for guests wanting to really explore the local area and be a part of this historic racehorse training village. The second bedroom has a single bed and pull out bed giving plenty of choice for guests wanting to travel as a family, couple or small group of friends. The family bathroom is very well presented with a large walk-in shower cubicle and heated towel rail. The garden to the rear is just delightful and is south facing so guests will really be able to make the most of the outdoor seating area and patio. Beautifully maintained and extremely well kept, the secluded, walled garden at Barbican Cottage is a rare find in such a small village, and is a real asset to the cottage. There is ample parking on the cobbles to the front of the cottage.
Perfect for horse lovers, Middleham is renowned for its long history and also serves as a thriving racehorse community. Guests will be able to watch as top class racehorses are ridden daily through the village and up to the gallops in the fields at the edge of the village. Ideal for a luxurious romantic break, there are many pubs, restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance and all are well known for serving good quality, local food and produce. Middleham Castle lies just behind Barbican Cottage and was once the home of Richard III and was referred to in former times as the “Windsor of the North”. Middleham is a great place for families too with plenty of attractions to visit and explore within a short driving distance. Local attractions include the popular Chocolate Factory, Tennants Auction House and tea pottery which are all located in Leyburn just two and a half miles away as well as The Forbidden Corner which is a hidden folly offering twists, turns and excitement around every corner, and is situated just four miles away from Barbican Cottage. Another popular attraction is the Wensleydale Railway which stops in Leyburn and travels through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. Guests who enjoy walking, cycling or even just exploring will find an abundance of established public footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways that lead right from the village itself onwards towards and through the Dales and beyond. A visit to the Dales Countryside Museum is also a must. The scenery here is magnificent at any time of year and guests will find themselves on a journey through heather covered grouse moorland, open countryside, natural woodland and pretty, little Yorkshire villages. A little further afield, but still within easy driving distance, guests will be able to visit Castle Bolton, Jervaulx Abbey and Wensleydale Creamery as well as Aysgarth Falls, Hawes, Gayle Mill, York, Harrogate and Ripon.

Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. Ideally situated in the picturesque village of Kettlewell within the Yorkshire Dales, a stone’s throw away from a small children’s play area with rolling countryside views for miles around! Lightfoot House is a charming, mid-terraced Dales cottage tucked away in the picturesque village of Redmire. From the minute you arrive in the village you can feel the peace and tranquillity. The Grade II listed cottage offers a very good level of comfort, with a fully fitted kitchen and modern bathroom, but is also full of the character you would expect, with its original exposed beams and wood burner set within a beautiful inglenook fireplace, offering a lovely welcome to return to after a busy day exploring.
Just 5 miles west of Leyburn, and on the very edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Redmire village is like a picture postcard, with country walks and some spectacular views over Lower Wensleydale. Superb walking and cycling is available direct from the door, a perfect base from which to explore the pretty Dales villages. Try the circular walk from Redmire to Aysgarth taking in both the Redmire Falls and spectacular Aysgarth Falls. Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held in the 16th century is a stone’s throw away or enjoy a stroll through the Bolton Estate to Wensley that gave its name to the entire Dale.
Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops where craftsmen display their skills and sell hand made products. Historical castles and ruins are numerous with Bolton Castle almost on the doorstep and Middleham Castle a few miles away. From Middleham square you can sit and watch the impressive sight as the racehorses pass through on their way to the gallops. The Forbidden Corner is just down the road with its labyrinth of tunnels and underground caves to explore. There is so much to do and see you will certainly want to come back.
