There is comfortable space for eight to live and dine together, whilst offering privacy and freedom for everybody in each bedroom.

Situated inbetween Windermere and Bowness, you are just a short walk from either, ideal for enjoying the local shops and eateries or to experience a trip out on Lake Windermere. The property is also ideally located within an easy drive or cycle to one of the many hundreds of walking routes or excursions that are enjoyed in the south Lakes and the Lake District on a daily basis. The village is situated in the north of the Lake District National Park, and is also just a short drive to Carlisle and the Scottish borders - it couldn’t be easier to explore the area. Bassenthwaite is a real community village which hosts an annual duck race, frequent pub quizzes and a vibrant, active local church arranging village fates, sports days and even Morris dancing. This beautiful cottage is just over a mile away from Bassenthwaite Lake, where fishing and sailing are available, or for nature lovers a walk up to the osprey viewpoints is well worth the effort. The property is ideally located for cyclists, with rides including the C2C and Cumbria Way routes, along with off-road trails at nearby Whinlatter Forest. You can enjoy views across the Solway Estuary over to mountains in southern Scotland. For those seeking more rugged outdoor adventure you’re only a 10-mile drive to the Lake District National Park, home to the famous Lakes Distillery offering guided tours and tastings, and 16 miles to your nearest lake, Bassenthwaite. Visit the Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 species of exotic animals, sure to be a fun-filled day out for all ages. Originally a traditional early 19th century Lakeland farm, Yew Tree Farm has been converted into a cosy, ground floor cottage, perfect for families and friends wanting to escape to the countryside. The cottage has a large gravelled yard area providing ample parking, as well as a place for children and dogs to play. Adjacent to the cottage is Yew Tree Barn, hosting many wonderful antiques and crafts, as well as Harry’s café, voted Cumbria’s café of the year for 2022.

The cottage is all open plan, offering a large living/dining/kitchen area with seating for six. Bypassed from the A590, the tiny hamlet of Low Newton lies just inside the Lake District National Park. Seaton is a lovely village just two miles from the Cumbrian Coast with an excellent pub just a few hundred yards up the road and shops nearby. The major town of Workington offers all your usual high street brands and supermarkets as well as a good range of bars and plenty of places to eat. Pippin Howe is central to several popular tourist attractions and areas. Jump in the car and you are just 20 minutes from the long stretch of beach at Allonby or 25 minutes to the sandy beaches of St Bees. The Solway Coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is well worth a visit. The harbour of town of Maryport is 15 minutes’ away and has a range of family attractions.
You can reach the tourist magnet of Keswick in 30 minutes and Bassenthwaite with The Lake District Wildlife Park and The Lakes Distillery in 25 minutes. If you love the outdoors, there’s beautiful scenery and popular walking trails all around. One of the most scenic areas of The Lake District is the drive via Loweswater, Crummock and Buttermere over the Honister pass around the side of Derwentwater to Keswick, so if you like natural beauty and sightseeing, this is one not to be missed. The apartment has been decorated and furnished beautifully throughout and being all on one level makes it ideal for guests who are less mobile or those with small children. The underfloor heating throughout gives a warm and cosy feel which is just what you need after a long day of sightseeing. The bathroom is contemporary and features a large shower cubicle, while the open plan feel of the living, dining and kitchen area give a feeling of space and a very convenient layout.
The properties benefit from being only ¾ mile from a beautiful sandy beach which is perfect for a breath of fresh air and also good for exercising your four-legged friends. Dogs are welcome to come and stay and there is plenty of good walks locally. The centre of St Bees has an excellent selection of local pubs and restaurants and if you want to leave the car behind you can take the train to many local towns. St Bees station, a number of pubs, restaurants and the local convenience store are all within 200 yards of the property. The famous St Bees priory, dating back to the 11th century is well worth a visit and can be reached within a 5-minute walk. If you like outdoor adventure, including walking, cycling and climbing, you are surrounded by some amazing scenery and you are only a 10-mile drive from the Lake District National Park, your nearest lake is Ennerdale which is regarded as one of the most unspoilt and natural parts of the Lake District. It is teaming with wildlife including buzzards, red squirrels and osprey to name a few. If you want to climb the highest mountain in England you can reach Wasdale Head in just 18 miles, which gives you the shortest route to the summit of Scafell Pike. Or why not take a trip on the La’al Ratty which is a miniature steam railway along the South West Coast. For golfers, St Bees offers an excellent 9-hole links course. Beach ¾ mile. You’ll be on the right track during your stay at The Station Master’s House, which forms part of the former railway station in the hamlet of Torver. Close to Coniston Water, this is an excellent starting point to explore the nearby countryside and wildlife, and the Lakeland Fells including Coniston Old Man. The property has been thoughtfully furnished throughout, with a well-equipped kitchen and a living/dining room which boasts comfy leather sofas. The property offers two double bedrooms, one of which has an additional single bed, and they both have sumptuous bed linen adding an extra comfort. They both enjoy views over the beautiful garden and surrounding area. This spacious cottage still has the distinctive feel of its former use, with a raised lawned terrace which is part of the old platform - the perfect place to sit and relax.
The nearby Lakeland villages of Coniston and Hawkshead are idyllic and have an abundance of shops and cafés. For the more adventurous, why not take to the tree top challenge at Grizedale Forest, or venture along the many paths by foot or by bike. For steam enthusiasts, you can still take to the tracks with a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite trains near Ulverston, or the elegant Victorian Steam Yacht Gondola which sails between March and November on Coniston Water.
