Greystoke Gill has the benefit of east access from the M6 and is ideally placed to visit Ullswater, Keswick and the Northern Lakes. There is a shop and pub and an outdoor swimming pool in the nearby village of Greystoke, with more amenities in the bustling market town of Penrith, five miles to the East. The cottage itself provides the perfect retreat at the end of a good days walking to relax and unwind in tranquil surroundings. Just a 5-minute drive down the road and you are in Newby Bridge, popular for its fantastic riverside pubs and home to the Lakes Aquarium and Windermere Lake Cruises. Take a wonderful cruse across the largest lake in the UK over to the popular town of Ambleside. If walking is more of what you are looking for then you are spoilt for choice, with 214 Wainwright fells within easy reach you have plenty of options to choose from. There are also an abundance of cycling routes close by or if you want to go further afield, there are many other popular Lake District towns to explore such as Grasmere and Ulverston. Why not head over to Grange-over-Sands or Cartmel, famous for its sticky toffee pudding, Michelin star restaurant and horse racing. Orchard House, renovated in 2023, lies on the outskirts of Cockermouth in Cumbria is a large property with large gardens and ample private parking. You are located within the Lake District National Park with its stunning scenery and no end of walking and cycling routes. Or continue on your route another 2 miles to find Bassenthwaite Lake, one of Cumbria’s most stunning lakes with the backdrop of the imposing Skiddaw, a challenge for even the most experienced fell walkers. Maryport is 10 miles away and home to the Lake District Coast Aquarium as well as Clip ’n’ Climb, a popular climbing adventure attraction. Kids will love Cave at the Wave which features an indoor caving activity, or if you want to boost your adrenaline, you can whizz around the local go-karting track. If culture is your thing you can visit Senhouse Roman Museum.

Not too far you can find Long Meg and her daughters, one of the finest stone circles in the north of England. Or adventure into the Northern Lake District where you can enjoy the villages and town with local pubs, cafés, shops and restaurants or a more energetic walk up one of the many famous fells or even a gently steamer cruise on Ullswater.
