Chatton is a picturesque village that has a shop and a pub which serves food. Slightly further afield is the friendly small town of Wooler (known locally as Glendale; the inspiration for ‘Postman Pat’s, Greendale’) only 5 miles inland. This is a popular destination for those who enjoy cycling, golf, horse riding and walking with the challenging St Cuthbert’s Way close by.

Bamburgh is renowned for its majestic fortress and beautiful expanse of golden, sandy beach and is only 11 miles east. The elegant Georgian town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which straddles the salmon rich River Tweed, and the cobbled, market town of Alnwick, protected by its dramatic castle, both offer a wide array of amenities around half an hour’s drive away. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction to see the Grand Cascade Waterfall and dine in the restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe! The Old Chapel in Slaley is a beautiful property, completely refurbished in 2020. The sheer quality and the owners’ eye for detail is evident from the moment you walk through the door. The living, kitchen and dining areas are all open plan on the ground floor with a large wood burner and arched French doors. The ground floor also boasts a bedroom and a beautiful shower room. Upstairs is just as impressive with three stunning bedrooms with 6ft luxurious beds, and in one room the en-suite has a superb roll top bath. A snug on the first floor is perfect for relaxing with a good book or enjoying a bit of quiet time watching TV. Slaley is a delightful Northumberland village, perfect for walkers, cyclists and ramblers as there are many routes to take that lead directly from The Old Chapel and out into the beautiful countryside. There are two pubs in the village so after a day exploring, just take a short stroll and you can enjoy a well earned meal or drink.
The market town of Hexham is only 6 miles away and offers a variety of shops and restaurants. Enjoy the historical sites the town has to offer at Hexham Abbey or the Old Gaol. A must visit is to the pretty little village of Corbridge, again only 6 miles away.

Perfectly situated near to the banks of the River Derwent with a boat house and fishing permits available for a small fee, guests who enjoy river fishing will be spoilt for choice. Also just a few hundred yards from the Derwent Walkway as well as a variety of established public footpaths, walks and cycling routes, there is no better base for enjoying and exploring the local area. Then leading further out into County Durham, Northumberland, the Northumberland National Park and the stunning North Pennines. Only half a mile from the village of Ebchester, there are plenty of amenities and facilities right on the doorstep.
