The popular Glendowlin Lodge development is a small group of privately owned lodges which offer a peaceful and comfortable stay just 4 miles from Ullswater. The accommodation is spacious, well equipped and comes with private parking for 2 cars. There are farmer’s fields adjacent to the rear garden, which is lovely in the warmer months when the sheep are out grazing. From this point, you also have far reaching views of the Lakeland fells over to the West.
    The lodge can comfortably sleep up to six guests in three good-sized bedrooms. A kingsize with en-suite shower, a double, and a bedroom with bunk beds - this room has an optional trundle bed giving families flexibility for three children sharing the same room. There is also a travel cot bed provided, which can be used in this bedroom if the trundle is not in use. All bedrooms have built in wardrobes, so you have plenty of storage space. The main bathroom features a shower over a bath.
    The open-plan living/dining room and fully equipped kitchen is a great space for entertaining; with a large dining table for enjoying meals together or for playing one of the provided board games. If you’re looking for some down-time after a busy day out exploring, the TV has built-in Freeview and a DVD player. On the cooler evenings the wood burner can be lit, making it a cosy place to relax.
    With the M6/A66 being only 5 minute drive from Sparrow’s Nest, it is the perfect location for exploring some of the very best places that Cumbria (and the surrounding areas) has to offer. You get the best of both worlds with the Lake District to the west and The Yorkshire Dales to the east - even the Scottish border town of Gretna is only a 35 minute drive, so you really are spoilt for choice! You have the market towns of Penrith or Keswick to visit the array of shops and eateries, or the historical city of Carlisle with its castle and museum. Or being located on the fringes of the national park, adventure isn’t far away. From Pooley Bridge you can take the Ullswater Steamer to Glenridding either to relax and enjoy the beauty of your surroundings or to follow in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright and explore the fells. All of this and so much more is easily accessible from this central location. You will find a folder containing lots of leaflets for local attractions to help plan your stay.
    Alternatively, if you would rather stay local, just down the road is the Lowther Estate. This includes a gothic castle ruin, 130 acres of gardens, café, shop, exhibition and an amazing adventure playground that will keep everyone entertained for ages! There is a lovely network of walks and cycle paths with the option to hire all-terrain bikes, children’s bikes and also electric mountain bikes on site. Following all this you will have definitely deserved a visit to the cosy pub/restaurant only a mile away in the village of Tirril.

    The property boasts four bedrooms, all with large TVs, some with TV feature walls, comprising one king with en-suite, two more king-size bedrooms and a fourth bedroom which can accommodate three guests. All beds have luxury firm memory foam mattresses with beautiful crisp white linen. You will find drencher showers both in the en-suite and main bathroom, which also features a large double-ended bathtub with all toiletries and towels provided. The stylish modern kitchen with an island is perfect for socialising around and features all modern appliances, including a dishwasher, washer, and dryer. Detached from the house is a large boot/Games room facility, perfect for kicking off muddy boots and coats, and a dog bath and shower for pampering your pooch after your days exploring, a professional darts board and a retro Nintendo games console. we have large Cosy blankets for nights sat under the stars, a drinks fridge, and recycling facilities.
    The wonderfully welcoming owners have furnished the property with total guest comfort in mind and will be there to meet and greet you upon arrival. You will have the personal touch of them being on hand during your stay if you require, available to tailor your visit to your total satisfaction. E-bikes can also be booked before your arrival, by direct arrangement with the owners. The local area has an abundance of pubs, cafes, and a local shop/post office all only a short drive away. Langwathby train station is close by where you can ride the Carlisle to settle route, the cottage is also on the C2C route.
    For busy days of exploration walking straight from Cherry Cottage, be sure to visit Lacy’s Caves, a series of five chambers carved out of the sandstone cliff, set along a beautiful walking route with views of the river and a wonderful garden to admire. Just a short walk from the village you can find Long Meg and her daughters, one of the finest stone circles in the north of England- ask the owners for its mythical and mysterious legend! These beautiful attractions can be enjoyed doing a circular walk.
    If you are looking for activities to occupy the family, in the next village of Hunsonby there is an outdoor swimming pool open from April to September, and the village of Winskill has a large playground with zip wire to entertain our younger guests.
