Guests have shared use of the hot tub where views can be enjoyed towards Mount Hooley and over the South Tyne Valley. The changing landscape throughout the seasons makes for picturesque views all year round. After a day out exploring this delightful area, what better way to soak those tired limbs and relax.
This is a good base for exploring Tynedale and the North Pennines by foot, bicycle or car, with many places of interest to visit, including Alston’s narrow gauge railway, Pennine Pottery and local crafts. The Pennine Way runs past the door, with walks in all directions. Alston, with its quaint cobbled main street, has a range of individual shops, character inns, restaurants and tea rooms. Within the area is an historical Roman fort and tourists will enjoy the museums, exhibitions and sites along Hadrian’s Wall. The Lake District, Beamish Museum, Newcastle, the Metro Centre, Carlisle and the Scottish Borders are all within driving distance. The Coach House is a superbly equipped barn conversion situated on the edge of the delightful market town of Brampton. This quirky semi-detached property has an upside down layout with the spacious living/kitchen/dining area on the first floor. Everything has been thought of to ensure you have a relaxing stay, from the sumptuous beds with M&S feather pillows and duvet, and luxurious toiletries, to the cosy gas fire and large TV with over 200 DVDs in the sitting room, home from home in every sense of the word. The dining area has a 6-seater oak table as well as a selection of books. In 2018 the property was given a VisitEngland award of excellence. Take a stroll into the centre of town and sample the many good restaurants and pubs. A must is a trip to Talkin Tarn Country Park, 2 miles from Brampton with its 65-acre lake set amidst 120 acres of farmland and woodland. The Tarn is an ideal place for recreation or a quiet stroll through the mature woodlands. No stay in Cumbria is complete without visiting Hadrian’s Wall, the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain. It stretches 73 miles from Wallsend, Newcastle across the neck of England to the Solway in north west Cumbria. Within Cumbria are Banks Turret, near Brampton and Birdoswald Roman Fort a few miles away. The utility room can take care of those wet, muddy clothes on damper days, and for a good night’s sleep, upstairs there are two comfortable bedrooms, one double and one twin, with sumptuous beds. Outside is a large mature garden, ideal for your children or the dog to play in, alongside parking for two cars and a bike store. Set in beautiful surroundings at New Mills Trout Fishing Park, why not try your hand at fly fishing? The lake is home to rainbow, tiger, blue and brown trout – probably the true fisherman’s ideal holiday destination. For the novice, try your hand at the fun fishing pond and bag yourself that ’I’ve caught my first fish’ experience, with all tuition and equipment provided. Wild Duck is a well presented, end-terrace cottage in the quiet village of Swarthmoor, located on the Furness peninsula. The open plan living space provides a comfortable and airy feel, with a large comfy sofa and armchair to relax in - the wood burner is the focal point and a warming welcome on those cooler evenings. A well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to start the day with a hearty breakfast or an evening meal, but with many excellent restaurants nearby you could be very easily tempted out for the evening. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms laid out over the first and second floor, with a good-sized family bathroom with bath and separate shower on the first floor. Young children have been well catered for, too, with a wicker crib, cot, toddler bed (as well as bedding for these) and a stairgate and highchair. Outside to the rear is a private and enclosed patio garden, a perfect place to have a drink and enjoy the sunsets on those long summer evenings with friends.
Located just on the outskirts of the popular town of Ulverston, 2 miles, home to many old pubs, restaurants, shops and a regular market, explore the many cobbled streets with small and interesting shops and historical architecture, it is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and the town’s Laurel and Hardy museum is well worth a visit.
Walkers will enjoy the start of the Cumbria Way from here, a relatively low level walk that follows paths and tracks along valleys and breathtaking passes. Nearby family attractions also include the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Windermere, Coniston and a rewarding walk up Birkrigg Common with panoramic views over Morecambe Bay. Beach 3 miles. The picturesque unspoilt villages of Kirkoswald, Armathwaite, Lazonby and Great Salkeld are all close by and they each offer amenities for you to enjoy. Local shops and tea rooms, as well as great pubs and restaurants abound. From Staffield Cottage you can plan a multitude of activities to do from cycling to fishing, walking to ballooning.
